Hi everyone,

Today, we are announcing our policy regarding generative AI content, and Id like to share that we have begun accepting illustrations made using generative AI into our collection. We believe that generative AI tools can help our contributor community continue to create amazing content, and we believe in transparent, clear labeling for customers when it comes to this content.

We have prepared generative AI content submission guidelines and a page to answer common questions. We believe that our policy to accept AI generated content will enable contributors and customers to benefit from the value that AI generated content can bring.
In our Discord channel for Adobe Stock contributors, we opened a new channel #ai-generated-talk as a forum for addressing further questions. As always, I will also monitor this thread daily and will do my best to answer any questions not covered in the FAQ.

The reason I say "wonder" is I seem to remember in the past shutterstock making an announcement that you could get your account shutdown if you tried to use ad services like google adwords or Facebook ads to drive traffic to your portfolio.

Does anyone know for sure either way?

I don't know but that seems very, very strange... Why would they forbid that?

Anyway, I think you'll be throwing your money away with Facebook ads. They cost $0.16-1 per click so you will be very likely to just lose money (99% likely).  ;)

Use free sources and you might drive some traffic.

It took some digging but I think I found the part I was worried about.

Shutterstock.com / promoting your own shutterstock portfolio
« on: June 26, 2017, 13:39 »
Not sure if everyone else got this, but recently when I logged in I saw a message on the top of my contributor page trying to get me to refer customers with a referral link.

I know some guys who are masters at using Facebook ads to sell products and promote people's pages, I was wondering if something like this could be used to promote your own portfolio. The reason I say "wonder" is I seem to remember in the past shutterstock making an announcement that you could get your account shutdown if you tried to use ad services like google adwords or Facebook ads to drive traffic to your portfolio.

Does anyone know for sure either way?

« on: March 06, 2017, 17:19 »
Anyone getting this? any time I try to add a release, it just takes me to the 123rf homepage.

Specifically, when I click the URL "http://submit.123rf.com/myrelease.php"

it just brings me to the 123RF homepage. "http://submit.123rf.com/myrelease.php"

That page works for me. Possibly it was fixed between your post and now?

interesting, seems the problem must be on my end because it still does not work. That at least helps troubleshoot a little bit.

I did this from the back of a minivan with the trunk door open and laying in the back with the camera hanging over the edge. Shot at 1/30th of a second. It is perfectly tack sharp somehow. Took a few thousand photos and about 10% were sharp.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Observations as a buyer
« on: August 11, 2016, 18:14 »
Hi Folks,

Just wanted to share some observations as a buyer: Every year our studio does some contracted freelance work for about three fix clients. These are mostly packages of print and web products bundled. We are doing this (or me alone before growing) since about 12 years (before stock already) - because of that I guess I can give some subjective comments on the stock market as a buyer.

In the first years there was nothing on the Micros. Many times I had to switch back to the Macros. The Situation good gradually better every year until about 2 years ago. This year we had to select a key visual photo for print as we do every year and I was quite baffled that we had so much trouble to find something suitable for the client.

In recent years as buyers we felt in heaven. Now it feels rather dry. Best chances still on istock and shutterstock but SO many subjects are not covered or have just trash. In many cases, on sites like Dreamstime, Depositphotos,.... there are just two or three good Microstock contributors left who are able to supply quality products which are good enough for a key element.

I was totally surprised. I expected in that subject to have plenty to chose from.

It looks like the Agencies convert more and more to trash bins of amateur photographers. Or photogs are just supplying the well known seller categories and stopped bothering uploading niche or quality material.

Most subjects I do not want to disclose but just as an example: look for a winter landscape in Sweden. Condition: High resolution and vertical orientation since it is for a high gloss mag print ad: You just get low quality compositions. Trees and uninspired landscapes. Now imagine you have to reduce the search filter to a specific region in Sweden: then you are f+*-e* .

From this Point of view it does not at all look like "oversupply". More like "flooded with trash and cannot find good specific material" lol.

Guess with their low pricing and zero-editing strategy the micros bury their own grave. It is just a matter of time until a reasonable company steps into competition since the USP can consist of something such simple as "Quality".

many well known agencies have lowered the bar even further on who gets accepted. In addition, certain agencies are likely using bots or software to do a large portion of the image inspecting. What happens is, Crappy, flat, boring shots get accepted because they are "sharp" while images that have real dynamics to them, like motion, shadows, depth of field, get thrown out by the algorithm.

Off Topic / Re: Tips on how to FAIL in this business
« on: July 01, 2016, 04:02 »
Not being willing to HEAVILY invest in your photoshoots is a sure way to never make real money.

A few years back I got to watch a top tier microstocker do a photoshoot. It was a pharmacy photoshoot. He actually bought a label printer and made fake labels for over 1000 bottles with made up medicine names so he could avoid copyright problems in the images. Also there were tens of thousands of fake pill capsules he bought off ebay filling the bottles, as well as shelves to hold it all up and of course models.

This was the 3rd unique photoshoot he did that day.

He shoots 5 days a week, all editing, key wording and uploading is outsourced. He even has people hired who find locations, models and schedule everything so that every single workday is filled.

It really made me realize that technical skill with a camera are only part of the equation. There is only so much you can do.  Being able to properly invest, scale up, and automate your work is the only way to really break this wall.

I probably can't hope to match this guy's performance, but it really did inspire me to take a little more risk and think bigger then doing an apple on a white background, or take crappy travel photos of churches, swans and fountains.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Reviewers Have No Clue
« on: February 05, 2016, 07:07 »
I am now totally convinced that Fotolia reviewers have no clue what they are talking about.

Video Submission: Declined Quality Issue
Same Video Submission: Declined Type of Video
Same Video Submission: Accepted

There was probably something about your submission that made the reviewer uncomfortable accepting it, like it was some kind of borderline grey area either in image quality, or much more likely something to do with copyright or releases. Something as simple as a certain building in the background, a sign, a car, a portion of a person or something not blurred out enough. It probably was not enough of a glaring issue that they could confidently put a reason down, so they came up with something vague so they did not have to accept it.

Adobe Stock / Re: Hint for Keywording less heavy
« on: February 05, 2016, 07:03 »
Hi guys,

let's speak about keywording in Fotolia.

I found it quite demanding due to the fact that keywords have to be ordered. The graphical interface doesn't make the task easier. For instance the window of keywords is not adjustable in order to see all the words, so I spend lots of time to going up and down in the list. Generally I put on the top only few keywords (the most relevant) and the rest ones are more or less randomly ranked.

I sent some messages to Fotolia team explaining the above mentioned reasons but until now I didn't see any changes (let's hope).

Do you have any hints to share to make FT keywording less heavy?

Thanks in advance

Keyword ordering is not a big deal. Whenever I keyword anything I ALWAYS keyword in order. There are more places then you think that use keyword order, so it never hurts to just keyword it correctly the first time. If add the keywords in a certain order in your EXIF it will come up in the same order on fotolia.

Wrong-o. Mass shooting and gun ownership statistics are figured out by the number of shootings per 100,000 people, so adding all of Europe together wouldn't change a thing. America has more shootings per person because it has more guns per person. Really simple. The mass shootings you use as examples are exceptions to the rule.

correlation is not causation. If you go back, 50, 75, even 100 years in the US guns were even more prevalent and accessible to the average person, yet mass shootings were almost unheard of in those times. You don't think culture and environment contribute anything to gun violence? What about countries like Iceland who have a fairly high rate of gun ownership, but non-existent gun violence?

While these mass shooting are tragic, they are statistical outliers when compared to the whole. Mass shootings are responsible for less than 100 out of 12,000 annual homicides in the US. You are significantly more likely to die in a swimming pool then fall victim to a mass shooting. Being struck by lighting and being killed in a mass shooting are somewhat similar. Mass shootings are basically irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

It seems pretty extreme to go through the trouble of removing everyone gun for an insignificant problem.

There are 30,000 people killed by guns every year in the U.S. Pro-gun people like to break that down into the smallest pieces possible and pay attention to only one piece at a time. In this case you have broken out mass shootings, and you ignore the tens of thousands of other shootings which occur every single day. You also cherry pick one country, state or city which is an exception and use that as an example while ignoring the many more that form the rule. You really have to twist yourself into quite a knot to get around the overwhelming amount of evidence that exists when it comes to gun deaths.

I guess I am guilty of breaking the types of shootings down as you've said. But I don't see why that is a big deal. The types of shootings, why, when and where really do matter. By lumping everything in together, it is designed to scare middle class people in nice neighborhoods that the dreaded gun plague could strike them at any second. The truth is, if your not a active gang member, involved in the drug trade or are unfortunate enough to live in one of several problematic US metros, your chance of getting shot is almost non-existent. A big portion of these gun deaths are criminals killing other criminals, that should be seen as a good thing, not a problem. Also, it includes people shooting other people in self defense. It includes police killing criminals as well. Depending on the statistics your looking at, many of the large figures you see passed around include suicides, which does not paint a very fair representation.

Unfortunately at times in my life I have lived in some of these problematic areas, and I frequently had to travel for periods of weeks at a time doing stock, leaving behind my wife and kids. If a criminal broke in they would be totally defenseless without a gun. A gun really levels the playing field in that type of situation. I know everyone will complain that this is totally anecdotal, and it is, but my life experiences have shown the importance of owning guns. I have been broken into several times and merely hearing the sound of the gun being cocked was enough to deter them each time. However, this may not be everyone experience and could of been a fluke but after that, guns are a 100% must in my life.

Going further, home defense is not really the point of the 2nd amendment anyway, it was really made to stop government tyranny. If you want to know how I came to that interpretation, all you need to do is read Thomas Jefferson writings who made it very clear exactly what the intention of the 2nd amendment really was. And yes, I know, I've seen the facebook meme pictures where they show a cheap shot gun next to a f-16 and a tank saying "if you think this can beat THIS, you are INSANE", however, I would like to remind the people who made that picture that the Taliban was successful in beating the full might of the US military with crappy half century old AK-47s and wearing rags in the mountains.

I can understand the argument that people should have the freedom to bear arms for whatever principled reason but the idea that it wouldn't prevent shootings to ban people having guns is absolutely rediculous. There is so much evidence from all over the world that more stringent gun laws equals massively  less shooting deaths. There's  even a nice parallel in austrailia where they had liberal (small l) gun laws and tightened them up after shootings with the result of massively less gun deaths. Sadly it has become a tribal political issue in the US and can never be anything else with the massive arms industry involved.

The highest mass shooting ever committed in recent times was by that Breivik guy in Norway which has very strict gun laws. Also you had the Charlie Hebdo massacre in France, very strict gun laws there too. What people fail to remember sometimes is that the US is a fairly large place with a huge population, so of course stuff like this will happen more often. If you considered europe a "country" their share of shooting is not too much better.

What really worries me is why do these shooting keep happening in schools? Why not other places? Surely there are plenty of other areas where people congregate? This makes me think there is something dysfunctional going on with the social dynamics of the schools that could be leading to this. Ever hear the phrase "going postal"?  It came about after a series of killings/shootings in the post office system by employees who were driven nuts by abusive management and a toxic workplace. I wonder if something similar is going on here. In case I am giving the impression that I am considering the shooters victims, I am not. I just think it would be good to look at the environment they were in the could of caused them to do this.

« on: September 24, 2015, 10:38 »
I am posting because I want to see if anyone else has had this problem. I realized my address was out of date so I went to change it, it said it went through and all is ok. I look at my email and I get a " Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" message. I go back into my account and find my address is not changed. So I try to contact support, and I get another " Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender". I contacted support on twitter and they sent me a link to contact them... it does the same thing. Basically it is impossible for me to contact shutterstock or make any changes to my account. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or know what I can do.

Hi guys, I know many of you were curious about the similar case in Europe. I'm glad to say that today we got good news from our lawyer: we won the case. The international character of the case did not hinder the Netherlands process being possible.

So here is just briefly on what grounds we won (in my own words):
1. Model failed to prove images were bought from stock agency; judge agrees they could be stolen from her own social/modeling profiles, from her computer or from publications elsewhere.
2. Even if they were licensed, still the agency's license was breached by end-users, which is not photographer's fault. Photographer handled correct selling images through a platform with a clear prohibition of damaging use.

I'm still a bit in shock, in a good way this time! This is a huge relief after 2 years of unfair game, full of peculiar details showing true colors of lawyer practices and some people we let into our life and work.

I sincerely hope that my American colleague will win his case on the same obvious grounds as we did and can continue to be a providing father and a professional.

A digital online record of my case should be available shortly I assume, it's not there yet, but those of you interested can simply send me a private message by that time  :)

So happy to hear this!!! Good for you Katya!

I have been following this case since I first heard about it. The issues at the core of this case could potentially have ramifications on my work and many here. In support of Seth's cause I have donated to his defense fund.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It means alot to me!
