General Stock Discussion / Re: My day with Yuri Arcurs
« on: December 12, 2008, 04:50 »
If he's so concerned with dropping profits, I'm still surprised he's going around training his competition.  That doesn't make any sense to me.

Quote from Yuris homepage:

"Why share? Having been reading this, you might wonder: Why would he share this information with me? Why would he give any such information to a potential competitive photographer? Well the case is this: I believe in complete information sharing. I dont hold anything back and have no problem giving away my secrets to new photographers. This was how I was introduced myself to stock by my mentor and this is the mind-set I prefer. I can give you a helping hand and a few good micro guides, but you will have to do the hard work yourself."

Hi everybody!

Yesterday I had my two first Els ever (on SS)! WOW! You cant believe how happy I am!  :D

The only thing I know about Els is that I earn more money for those downloads and that the person who downloaded it has some more rights... But what exactly is the difference between a regular downlaod and an EL? I still have the same rights on those photos, right?

Maybe this is a stupid question but Ive never tried to find out because I didnt think I would ever get an EL...  ;) And now I got two at once!!  :D

By the way, these are my two winners:

Off Topic / Re: Successful Life?
« on: June 28, 2007, 13:27 »
We think happiness is about getting somewhere. We could each make a list of requirements to be happy, but by the time we achieved them all the list would have grown. Think donkey and carrot.

The trick about happiness is to be happy where you are RIGHT NOW!  The tragedy about happiness is that people think it's "out there" somewhere.

Try this experiment to see for yourself. Make a happy face. Smile. Smile big! Smile so big that your face contorts and you look silly. Do it for at least 10 seconds, and then see how you feel.

Kids in remote Bolivia who have nothing are 10 times more happy than us rich people in the first world with all our security.

You live a while, then you die. It's not complicated or overly significant. Be happy as a choice, because you can!

Success in life is not about happiness. Happiness is instantly available to everyone. Success is about making a difference. Something that's worthy of your life.

You are so, so right!

Yeah, i think the flower images must be quite good to sell regulary, I just started to make a page on my website for microstock beginners to check out the possibilities how images will sell. My first and still only example is a flower.
 Check it out: http://freezingpictures.googlepages.com/sampleimages

Thats a really interesting example! Interesting to see that none of the agencies can keep up with Shutterstock! But I wonder if the download reasults per agency will be more even after a year or so!!?! And I also wonder if I would have as many downloads as you with the exact same picture in my portfolio?!? I think you attract a lot of your "customers" with your COOL penguin pictures!  ;) By the way, please tell us more about your trip to Antarctica!! Seems quite unusual...! How do you organize such a trip?
Ill definitely check out those download results of the flower picture later on to see how its developing!

Schne Gre nach Deutschland!  :)

Hi everybody!

In their training maunal Istock says that they dont need anymore images of dogs/ cats, flowers, flags, sunsets & clouds and so on. Does that mean that they always reject every image that contains one of those things? Or how strict are they with this? Is it still worth a try?

Verena

PS: I really enjoy this forum! Im quite passive here, Im mostly reading and not writing that much, but I think its a very nice atmosphere here! Thanks for all your great advices and information, Ive already learned a lot thanks to you all!  :)

Hi Xenia,
you seem to have some experience with german stockphoto sites.
Which one is the best in your opinion? Where do you have most sales/ earn the most?

Looking forward to your answer! :-)

Hi everybody!

I was wondering if it matters if you upload seasonal images out of season. For example if you upload winter pictures during the summer. I assume that they wont get downloaded right away, but will they become more popular when the season begins or do you suggest to always download right before/ during the "right" season?

I think on shutterstock people choose the search option "newest first" a lot so there it would obviously be best to upload seasonal images right before/ during the right season, but how does it work on the other big stockphoto sites?

Looking forward to your answers! :)
