Alamy.com / Whats the longest you have seen a refund from?
« on: October 26, 2022, 15:35 »
Almost 2 years later

(24 October 2022)    Sale refunded - Original sale date (17 December 2020)

2
I was casually browsing my sales history page and notice a lot of licenses were refunded and repurchased with the same term, at a lower price, some as far back as half a year ago.  Based on my estimate, this affects about 20% of my sales in the past 12 months.  None of the single digit sales were refunded, only for licenses above 50.  Is this a common for others contributors?  Is this a standard practice in the stock industry? Does it mean after a license sale I could be waiting half a year before getting paid?

Not an expert in image licensing, but does this sound a little too low?

Is there a single commercial release that is accepted by all major agencies?  I normally use the getty one, but I only submit to a one place and am unsure if it is accepted by others.  Looking for an unversial one, for both photo and video work.  If there is a fee app thats even better.  If not I can turn it into a pdf and use some app to sign it.

Pond5 / What impacts ranking?
« on: June 30, 2020, 22:12 »
Let's say two contributors uploaded 2 clips, and tag with exact same description/keywords etc.. how does pond5 decide which clip displays first to the end user?

Alamy.com / 10 years in alamy, should I give up?

Revenue flat, as sales climb in a steady pace.  The work involved to keyword and upload works out to be lower than north american minimum wage.

General Photography Discussion / image rejected due to noise?
« on: December 10, 2018, 10:56 »
Recently had an image rejected due to noise in the background.  The reviewer pointed out that the area (attached) has too much noise, but I m not seeing any.  I tried to follow up with the reviewer but not getting useful feedback.  Does anyone know what the reviewer might be talking about?

I have been using google doc and ask people to sign (by drawing) on my phone.  I am looking for a dedicated app for it.  Any recommendations?

Is there a quick easy way to batch remove the audio channel from 100+ mp4 files?  The only way I know is to put each one in premiere, remove audio channel and re encode, which takes a lot of time.

What is the best value camera to produce stock 4k videos?  I have used a sony rx100, canon 6d and 5d3 to produce stock videos.  I shoot mostly travel scenic (wide) and static (medium) shots.  Based on my research so far, the sony a6300 with 16-50 kit lens seem to be a very good option, with tiny size, impressive level of details and low light capability.  Price wise it can be had for under 1k USD.   Are there any other better or similar options I should consider?  Also are there any budget ultrawide options available for the a6300?

Is there any budget action camera or device that can do 1080hd  timelapse video, similar to the GoPro hero 4 black?  I m looking for one for a personal/non commercial project, and prefer not to spend $500USD+ on something will only be used a few times.  Looking for something easy to use that I can mount somewhere, set it and forget it.

When traveling light to a new country, sometimes it is not always possible to bring a tripod.  What techniques do you find useful to create stable stock footages?  I have tried the techniques below and they are hit or miss.  Perhaps a light shoulder rig will be the answer?

For stock photos, I use lightroom.  What do you use to maintain your stock video library?  I believe LR can do the job, but wonder if there are better and more well known tools.

General - Stock Video / frame rate for stock videos 24 or 30?
« on: February 22, 2014, 09:43 »
Is it worthwhile to upload two versions of the same stock video at different frame rates?  Will there be any quality lost if a video frame rate is changed from 24 to 30 or from 30 to 24?

I am looking for a smaller camera to do mostly stock photos and some videos (1080) when traveling.  I am using a canon system so naturally I started with what canon has offers, which is the g1x.  I have also looked into the panasonic gf1, gf2 as well as olympus pen series.  They all have the pros and cons.  The way I look at it, the g1x seems to be the best all in one solution.  Based on sample images on the web they are acceptable up to iso1600, its small and the HD videos look ok as well.  On the flip side the build in lens is slow, focusing is not  fast, and its not as proven as the other models.  Price wise it is the most expensive at $800.  The GF1, GF2, EPL1 and EPL2 are cheap with kit lens.  But they form factor is not compact (lens sticking out, hard to put inside a pocket).  If I buy a pancake lens such as 20 1.7, it will cost another 400, which brings the total price closer to 600.  The EPL1 and 2 can not do HD video but their images are good up to iso1600.  The GF1 and 2 can do HD videos, and seems to have strong user support (via third party firmware).  I have also looked at the sony nex-5, its price sites in the middle but its form factor (big lens sticking out) turns me off.  Anyway I am hoping someone can assist and provide more insights so that I can make a better decision on getting the best compact travel camera for stock photos and videos.

Software - General / Keywording in lightroom
« on: September 05, 2011, 13:10 »
I find the process keywording individual images to be very time consuming, esp when you have the repeat the same process multiple times at different sites.  I am hoping there is a way to enter all the keywords and categories inside lightroom and when the image is uploaded I don't need to do much more.  Is it possible or am I just dreaming?  I am aware tools such as crushy stock but I am hoping to keep everything in LR if possible.

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / steady video footage
« on: February 28, 2011, 00:24 »
Looking for a compact to way to keep footage steady in situations where a tripod is not feasible.  I have been using a monopod but it is fairly easy to shake.  Any suggestions?

General - Stock Video / keywording before upload
« on: November 14, 2010, 10:10 »
What are some of the popular tools used to keyword a clip before uploading to various stock sites such as pond5?  With photos I used LR and photomechanics.
