Three-and-a-half years ago, when Editorial was first announced, http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=281732&messageid=5365222 they told us video and vector would soon be included. I stopped asking about that after about a year. Like so many other things that were promised and never materialized, editorial illustrations never became a reality.

Shutterstock is now accepting editorial illustrations and vectors: http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/now-accepting-editorial-illustrations-and-vectors  Will iStock be eating more dust soon?

iStockPhoto.com / Getty Clip Art "mirroring" has begun
« on: January 25, 2013, 18:53 »
Hmm. I'm not buying the "tightly curated" part. It looks like it's all from 1995.  :P

I just wanted to give everyone a head's up that we will be moving some of the old clipart.com vector content into the Partner Program. In order to do so, it will be uploaded to iStock to a non-Exclusive contributor account so that it can be mirrored on Thinkstock and Photos.com.

These files will be very tightly curated: We're only moving the content that we feel still has a chance at selling. It's a very small portion of the overall collection of vectors still on clipart.com.

The files will go through the normal inspection process and will be subject to all the usual contributor rules such as the weekly upload limits. This way the files won't spam Best Match.

The files will eventually be moved to our Value Collection (formerly the Dollar Bin) once they've mirrored on the Partner Program sites.

We wanted to let you know in case you happened to recognize any of the content: This isn't an infringem, it's wholly owned content from Getty Images.

If anyone has any questions just let me know!

iStockPhoto.com / istockreseller.com - Scam site?
« on: November 12, 2012, 11:04 »
So apparently they're aware of this, but I'm wondering how it was done. Looks like the entire iStock library for sale at a discount:

iStockPhoto.com / Simonox no longer exclusive
« on: July 18, 2012, 13:59 »
Wow, the guy who designed the iStock logo has jumped the exclusive ship. I follow him on Twitter and he just posted some links to his files on Shutterstock.

I can't find RC stats anywhere on the site or in the CSV file. Do you have to manually count them every day?

Also, is the target period cutoff the calendar year, or sometime in January? I am very close, but I don't know how close. And did they ever credit us for those days that went missing?

iStockPhoto.com / translation please
« on: July 13, 2011, 15:04 »
Is it just me, or do most people need a JJRD translation filter? I asked for clarification on a phrase, and he basically says it was clear the first time. I'm afraid to ask again, because I've already been accused today of not being "nice."

I have contacted them twice, via the online form, and both times received an automated response saying that their "friendly and knowledgeable" staff would contact me within one business day. It's been almost a month since the first one, and a week since the second one.

Is there a direct way to contact them? Phone?

iStockPhoto.com / Entire threads disappearing?
« on: April 08, 2011, 00:39 »
I've noticed lately more threads on iStock are being completely deleted, rather than being locked. Recently there was the one in the Vector forum about Russell Tate. I didn't think that thread would get very far, but I didn't expect it to just disappear.

Tonight I was looking for another thread, one of the ones that promised "great things" ahead for vectors. I had actually copied the permalink back when it was originally posted, in case I needed to refer to it later, but now the link just goes back to the main Forums page.

Before I go into conspiracy theory mode, here is the link:

Did F5 mess up the permalinks? Or has it perhaps been deleted altogether? Here's the quote, btw:

"Please also know that we do have some great things planned for Vectors, however to keep our competitive advantage, we're not able to announce them at this time, but will very shortly."

iStockPhoto.com / BME! NOT!!
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:56 »
It's my impression, from reading the monthly stats threads, that a lot of the BME's are Bronzes or below (what is that canister called, Ghost?). And more and more, the WME's are Diamonds. If this is true (and I realize that it's all anecdotal), it confirms what I've been thinking about a statement Kelly made about how the payouts to contributors keep increasing. He seemed to use that statement to justify that the RC targets were fair and that everybody was happy. But what he fails to understand, apparently, is that a statistic like that is cold comfort to the individual contributor whose income keeps dropping. It's just like when he said that we'd make 50% of our sales in the last quarter of the year. Again, that may be true for the company overall, but it doesn't take a math whiz to understand that it's not necessarily true for the individual.

You know what I'm saying? So do you think that the growth of the company is due to a lot of newbies, but at the expense of those of us near the top?

"But if the majority of members don't believe this is good for us all, well, that's all there is to it - we'll turn it off. Simple as that. Our community is the reason for our success, and we will not act against your wishes. "

Thinking of changing my avatar for Thursday's clawback. What do you think? An all-black square?
