I think that judgement is fair. Photo was found on flickr, with no option to buy, and they took it down as soon as photographer warned them.
It would cost them only a few dollars to buy the image, if they knew that's what needs to be done. Photographer would get his 25 cents for it.
I wonder why people put photos on flickr and similar "show only" sites and then cry if image "borrowed"?

I am not French. I don't live in France. I don't care what French do there or anywhere. But, I do care that Getty is making a worldwide movement to appease French! I would just not offer those kind of images to a French market. Photographer willing to go extra mile will supply that market but why does Getty restricts selling those images to, say, US market? They don't care for additional paperwork.

it ended up that I got invitation back in 2014 for iStock Videographer which I never activated but was still a valid invite. Thankfully I saved that email and was able to finally get in.

I'm in the same situation but can't find that email.
I don't remember receiving it, maybe it went to the spam folder and now is gone.

However... there are two possibilities:

1) resend that email to anyone who didn't activate the invite in 2014

2) first ignore there's a problem, then invite anyone to contact you, then reply with a generic email still denying the problem, then invite everyone to write again

Which one would you choose? Which one did iStock/Getty choose?
Contact Getty via link that is offered once you could not successfully sign in.

Do you have some of the text of that old invite?
I am wondering if I have same problem but I can't find the email. It would help me search my inbox if I knew what the subject was or some of the text.
Also, live link is not working properly. Cut and paste the actual address.
Subject line is 'ESP Invitation for iStock videographers', email was sent October 8, 2014.

I did not get yet the email with the data to connect to ESP.
I have tried to connect using my iStock and Getty login, but without success.
So I have tried to ask for a new password using the form.
I have got the new password in seconds and tried again to connect to esp.gettyimages.com

And you know what?

It works!!
____
Then I have tried to upload one image using Deep Meta 3
And the image appeared in the page "Upload & review content"
I finally got customer service reply email today where they said that number of people who already had Getty account created through iStock did not get invitation email (and will not get it). We are supposed to use our contact email address as our member name and request password reset (forgot your password option on sign in).
After changing password I got:
"You are now signed in. Start uploading."

I clicked on the link and got back where I was with:

We're sorry.
Your account is not currently set up for ESP access.

I am thinking that they locked the account after several unsuccessful attempts and of course they are not saying anything about it. These locks are typically anywhere between 3-24 hours, so I'll try again.

I cannot wrap my head around the fact that iStock/Getty is not communicating with its members on such important thing as the current problem associated with ESP. Many people, myself included, didn't get the invite yet and many others are frantically trying to make sense of the whole thing. We must use this third party outlet to communicate among ourselves like survivors after the apocalypse.
I am shocked.

Well, no; we don't have to use this third party outlet; they are trying to sort things out on their own forum, as best they are able ...
Same old, same old ...
I don't know that since I don't have access to iStock/Getty forums.

My invite didn't work, but I could log in with my email (NOT username) and current password at https://esp.gettyimages.com/
I don't think you can reach ESP. Try to go here:
https://esp.gettyimages.com
or to login from here:
https://contributors.gettyimages.com/

I am longtime exclusive diamond iStock contributor and I did not get email yet (I must admit there are still 5 hours to go until this last day expires). That leaves me completely in a dark, without any access to my acoust, portfolio, uploads. No communication from iStock/Getty whatsoever.
As I said, I am longtime contributor, so ... I am not surprised.

Hvala!

We passed november, 25. but iStock has not still sent my money... I messaged today............. >:(
I was paid via paypal on Nov 24th.
Don't confuse balance total with payment. At some point of time (around the 5th) istock pulls previous month earnings from your total in preparation for the payment a few weeks later.

Q3 was down 29% for me while Q4 was down "only" 19%

Heck if I know what's new. But it does show stats, DLs, income, charts, statistics and other things.

I liked the Find and Replace function, which I haven't used yet, but I think I will! I like the ability to edit keywords remote and then Update the whole batch. The screens are easier to navigate than online too.

Also for anyone else installing 2.08 that's replacing an older version. Windows - the install didn't update the desktop for mine, I got an error message, until I went to programs and created a shortcut on the desktop and deleted the old one. (which is go to all programs > right click on DeepMeta > Send To Desktop, which creates a new shortcut.

Most software will just create a new or update the old link. DM doesn't do that for some reason?

Sorry but I'm in the dark ages and still run XP.

But, maybe someone can help me, I'm lost. How the heck do I populate the "Ratings & comments" with something useful? Mine is empty. I tried word searches, nothing. Maybe I should just ignore and view those online, I never did see what they were there anyway.

Or tell me, I don't care and I'm fine with that too.
iStock got rid of comments and ratings some time ago. If you are newer contributor you probably do not have any and that's why you don't see it. Also, make sure that you updated ALL data from iStock (ctrl F5).

My most specific "requirements" would be shallow depth of field of the 24-70mm @ f2.8 for portraits.
24-70 is not considered portrait lens on a full size sensor camera. Conservatively, portrait lens is in a range of 80-135mm.

17
There is a good reason Canon chose 24-105 L as a kit lens for 5D line. First one I bought was very soft and I returned it. A year later I bought another one and kept it. It is the most versatile walk around lens. Add 50/1.4 for low light and texture/background/product shots since it is very sharp corner to corner. Tamron 90/2.8 VC 1:1 macro is just as good as Canon but cheaper. You will need true macro lens that doubles as a portrait lens sooner or later.

Trying to sweep this under the carpet by booting Shaun, Getty admits wrongdoing and being vulnerable at the same time. That should give the rest of us hope that something CAN be done after all.

19
They probably recognized that it was already inspected and approved by iStock so why waste time.

Dont complain if "trolls" like us come back here for a good laugh from time to time, you guys at least are entertaining, sort of like watching a reality show or a soap opera.
Are you sure your name is not misspelled, Stockturd?

Absolutely shocked! Can't stop thinking about it all day. It is obvious that scrutinizing Google deal is what caused it. I see it as personal vendetta of some hot headed Getty manager. Sean was invaluable asset for iStock and its community but that obviously ment very little for Getty at large. There is a huge void left in iStock community. I bookmarked Sean's personal page hoping to see some good news real quick.

seriously.. the more pro you are the more liar you are right?

70-80 sales... make it 75
365 days... make it 260 (average week days in a year)

1 year = 75 x 260 = 19500
2 years = 39k sales

right :D

(sorry but I cannot hold myself)
what's your point?
That was stupid comment (math) you made!

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istockphoto Down For Maintenance or Hacked?
« on: November 30, 2011, 21:13 »
This is very typical iStock I've seen over the years. People working there are detached from the contributors base and look at the site as their own place where they can look cool and different. Sadly, it looks childish in many people's eyes.
