General - Top Sites / Child Photography Income / Roth IRA
« on: June 20, 2022, 12:16 »
I recently had a child and I was thinking about having them model for some stock photography images.  I read that you can open a custodial Roth IRA account for your child and can contribute the child's earned income to the retirement account.  Since I'm a sole proprietor I don't have to deduct payroll taxes and as long as they earned less than I believe $12,500K they don't have to file a tax return.

Has anyone done this before?  If so how much do you pay them per photo session?  I don't think I can just pay them $6k for one session to max out their contributions for the year.  Thanks!

Adobe Stock / Re: Diable Adobe Stock Videos
« on: April 11, 2022, 11:49 »
yes, it would be good to have a disable button for videos like shutterstock has.  If I change my mind later, I'm not going to re-upload the videos again.  At least with a disable button I can undo it.

Adobe Stock / Diable Adobe Stock Videos
« on: April 08, 2022, 16:24 »
I can't seen to figure it out on my Adobe Stock account.  I just want to disable my videos, without having to delete each one.  Anyone know how to do it?  Thanks

Hard to tell with the size of the images that you posted.  Unless you look at it at 100% its hard to tell what their issue was.  I don't think they are too dark.  In fact I would actually make them a little darker since they seem to be shot at blue hour.  Maybe the street lights are a factor, can't tell with the current display size.

$350... the worst part is I kept uploading and spending my time doing that in vain.

Does anyone have experience with the "footagesearch.com" website?  Most of the content is nature related.

General - Stock Video / Re: Selling Video sites?
« on: December 28, 2011, 13:56 »
I think your assessment on the site are about right.  I stopped uploading to istock, since I have issues with their upload process and they took forever to review the clips, so I dropped them.  Clip canvas is another site that I rank with Revostock.  Fotolia, sells my clips way too cheap and I may pull them from there for that reason.  I do like the options of setting my own prices on pond5, but they could stand to be more selective on what they take.

I'm not uploading to anymore sites, since unlike photos, video takes a long time to upload and there is no exif data like photos, so I have to re-enter all my keywords etc.  I'll probably just focus on 2-3 sites for video.

FYI, there is a photo accessory called "Steadepod".  Has a different spelling and function, but don't know if there is a conflict in name there.

I don't sell motion graphics, but see them on the sites that you mentioned.  I don't know of any specific sites to just that category.  You can add Fotolia to your list, but 90% of the time I only get $3.70 for clip sold there.  I'm going to avoid that site, until they change their pricing.

@tbmpvideo - Any experience or thoughts with the bigger sites like Corbis Motion or Thought Equity?  Wondered if anyone has gone that route.

For me Pond5 is at the top and everyone else is a distant second.  Pond5 should tighten up their standards a bit though.  I've seen some featured videos on the site with obvious camera shake or videos with very little movement in the library.  As a buyer that must be a turn off.  Revo is very good in this regard with reviewing, but sales are not on the same level.

Istock just takes forever to review files, well over a month.  They only give FTP access to exclusives, which is stupid when I'm uploading files that are 200-450 megs in size and I have to do it one by one.  Once its uploaded they don't even give you a video preview of the file or the file name I just uploaded.  Only have 10% of my video library up with them because of it.

I have the GO Pro Hero HD and have used it hang gliding, strapped it to a small plane, surfing and on my car.  I don't the quality is good enough for stock video unless you're shooting a clear blue sky.  I'll be submitting some of the video I shot will it soon, so I'll see if it gets accepted.  Great for creating some video segments this the one shown.

I've fallen into that trap as well.  When I go to take a shot, the first thing that runs through my head is if its stock worthy.  I have also noticed that unless I have my SLR with me, I won't take as many photos with my point and shoot since I know the quality is not good enough to submit.  I end up being mad for not having a better camera with me.

Forgot about Fotolia... they have one of the lowest payouts out of all the sites for video.  I haven't deal with a site that sells in Euro's.  Do you get euro's in your paypal account when you cash out or do they convert to US dollars?

Trying to see if there any other video sites worth contributing to that I haven't already.  Here is my list:

Pond5, Istock, Shutterstock, Can Stock, Revo

Pond 5 is at the top for me with all the others kind of clumped together as a distant 2nd.  Heard of the following, but don't know if they are worth submitting to:

clipcanvas, always HD

Then there are the bigger sites, like corbis, getty, thought equity - any experience with breaking into those sites?

Thank you

Will be in Frankfurt next week, will have to check out those sites.  From my understanding you need a couple of people to operate a RED camera.  Has anyone used one?

Ann, what did you think of the Stock seminar?  I didn't go to that one, but did a bunch of other ones, which were hit or miss.  They had a micro stock one a couple of years back with Yuri, which was interesting.  Just found it odd that Adobe dropped out of the show for the second straight year.

They require exclusivity, so for me it won't work.  They also require a commitment to represent selected images for a minimum of 5 years

Thanks for the letting me know about the typo, I fixed the video. Glad you enjoyed it.  I have a good amount of video from a trip to Yellowstone last year, so that will probably be my next project.

I had that dilemma as to when to shoot stills vs video.  My first priority was stills, but when I was able to stabilize my video shots, I just used the other camera around my neck for stills.  Still managed 450 video clips even after shooting 20k photos.  With almost 20 hours of light, I was able to shoot more than normal and the scenery gave me plenty of material.

click_click ~ Used the Canon 5D M2 for 90% of the shots and the Canon 7D on the remaining ones.  I put in the facts just to give it a more documentary feel and just to make it a bit different.  The footage was shot over the course of a week while on the expedition.

There is a music soundtrack, which I think gives the footage more impact, no narration.  While on land I used a tripod of course, but while on the ship I used a bean bag to keep down the ship vibration.  Highly recommend one if shooting on a ship. Those are actually elephant seals, the ones fighting.  The black frames around 3:25 was put in on purpose by the editor as a transition.

I've only been submitting my clips to Pond 5, shutterstock and some of the other micros.  Would like to know where to submit RM... not sure if that's Corbis motion or some of those types of sites.  Anyone have experience with those sites?

Just finished collaborating on a video project with footage I shot while in Antarctica earlier this year.  Will be submitting soon my unused footage to the micros and still going through all my stills.  Just wanted to see what other video producers thought of the video.  Turn on your speakers, the soundtrack is very good.

Thank you
