Im really confused now.  Can anyone tell me what month the subscription earnings started being reported?  I just looked at my Account Settings/Sales page, and the graphic says I had $0.00 subscription sales in April.  I could have sworn there had been a dollar amount listed there the last time I looked.  I wish I had done a screen save.   Has anyone else seen their subscription earnings amount reset to $0.00 for April?

Dumc, I think you're right.  I'll be able to confirm once the subscriptions for May are tallied.

Thanks for your replies.  No, I haven't deleted any images.  I also haven't uploaded anything new in quite some time; could that be the reason?

I'm glad that some of you have received double or more based on your total earnings from March.  It hasn't happened for me.  I did make more in April than in March, but my total for April was not double that of March, not even close.  In reviewing this thread, I understood the new policy to be that monthly earnings for each of the next 6 months would at least be double the total earnings for March.  Am I missing something?

Topaz may make good products, but their "customer service" is terrible.  I recently attempted to purchase AI Gigapixel, but their site rejected my credit card.  I knew there was nothing wrong with the card, but I called the card company and verified it just to be sure.  Topaz doesn't have a support telephone number (or any phone number that I could find for that matter), so I sent them a "help" e-mail.  I described that I wanted to purchase their product, and that their website incorrectly rejected my credit card (I wanted to use my business credit card only).  It's been a week now with no reply.  Very frustrating experience!

Image Sleuth / Re: Etsy is the absolute worst

Lots of Etsy shops selling the same digital downloads of photography, most of it illegal.  Here's one of the worst offenders:

Canva / July Payment
« on: August 17, 2018, 16:06 »
I haven't received my Canva payment for July's sales; they usually pay between the 9th and the 14th.  Was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this?  Thanks...

Dear Zero Talent and Jon Bull:

During the time you guys have been endlessly ranting about each other, you both probably could have created and uploaded at least 10 new images.

Has anyone received any tax documentation from Canva?  I never received anything from them last year, and can't find any contributor tax info anywhere on their site.  Tax season is just a few months away, and I hope they don't screw it up like 123rf did in 2017.

Hey Mat, the form I'm seeing on the Fotolia site is from 2014.  Shouldn't that be updated as well?

There's a ton of shops on Etsy selling the same or similar image files.  It's really quite discouraging when you start searching about the site and find the same illegal stuff over and over again in different shops.

Re: sales figures, the OP's mentioned shop, LILAxLOLA is not making $1000 a day, far from it.  LILAxLOLA had about 25 sales in the past 24 hours (just do screen shots of her #of sales at different times and do the math).  She appears to be selling these at $7.26 each, which would make her gross for the day at $181.50.  A pretty good sum, but far from $1000.  But that's gross: you then have to subtract listing fees, credit card processing fees, and Etsy's own transaction fees; these can add up to quite a bit.  She also offers a 30% discount for purchasing 3 or more downloads, which would lower her gross sales total even further.  She may have offered other discounts at other times; most of the digital shops on Etsy do this.  Because of all these factors, there's no way to know exactly how much she's actually making, but I'd be surprised if she was making more than $100 (net) a day.  That's still pretty good money, though I'm pretty sure she's the exception to the rule.  I've looked at least 100 different Etsy shops that sell only digital downloads, and the vast majority of them have nowhere near the sales volume that LILAxLOLA has.

Since she doesn't have to create her own art, she probably spends most of her time doing advertising promotion for her shop; I'd love to know how she does that.  That's the real secret to success on Etsy: figuring out how to drive buyers to your shop.  Sounds familiar, doesn't it.

The problem with Etsy is a familiar one: you have to figure out how to drive people to your shop.  I have a shop on Etsy, and get one or two small sales a month; it's worth doing but just barely.  I don't do any social media advertising (hate doing that), and as a result I get very few daily views; usually 1 to 5 if that.  The really successful people on Etsy are the crafters; they'll complain if they get less than several hundred views a day.

Another problem with Etsy, is that it's a hive of illegal stuff being ripped-off and sold.  Just do a search for Disney or Star Wars and you'll see what I mean.

13
I filled out the necessary copyright infringement forms, and to their credit Etsy deleted the illegal listings within minutes.  However, the shop is still open, and I'd be willing to bet that none of the guy's listed work is his own.  I strongly urge other MSG members to take a look at the site to see if they recognize any more illegal work.  In my opinion, Etsy should have shut down the guy's entire shop.

When you click on the guy's website, scroll down to where you see "Items" on the left-hand side.  Under that list you'll see the following categories: "Animals download," Beach download," "Flowers/Plants download," etc.  That's where he's selling my files in various jpeg sizes.  Truly despicable!

Yesterday I discovered an Etsy shop selling two of my photographs illegally.  The shop owner apparently had purchased two of my image files from one of the stock agencies that I sell through, and is currently reselling the digital files on Etsy.  This is clearly illegal, and understandably Im quite furious!

Heres the link to the shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/WorldPhotographies?ref=l2-shopheader-name

A lot of the work looks very familiar to me as stock imagery, and I wouldnt be surprised if all of this guys listed items are being sold illegally.  Ive contacted Etsy and hopefully theyll shut this a-hole down.  In the meantime, Id strongly suggest that everyone check out this shop to see if your work is being sold there illegally as well.

Angela, anything happening for you on Arcangel?

Franky,

Thanks for the advice.  I went into my account on ESP and took a look at the file.  It said there was missing data; it wanted me to fill in the field allowing me to choose between the Signature or Main Collections.  I found this a bit odd in that I'm not exclusive and didn't think such a choice was available to me.  Anyway, I chose Signature, and the file was accepted.  Maybe they'll put it in the Main Collection once it's reviewed and accepted.  Strange, huh?

Hi Frankey,

I got this error message when trying to upload a single raster file marked as an illustration:

Error: 422: collection_code: cant be blank - status: cannot transition via mark for review - base: Cannot submit this Contribution

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

jjnef,

This still works for me.  Here are two links that were posted in the main ESP thread: http://www.istockphoto.com/user_stats.php?Offset=0&DownloadsGraphFileType and www.istockphoto.com/user_stats.php?id=000000&Offset=-1&DownloadsGraphFileType.

Both links work for me.  They both take me to my "Daily Statistics" page on the original iStock site.  I can then click back to previous months in 2016, although I don't know how far it'll allow you to go back.  Click back to the month in question (November, if I'm remembering correctly).  Once on that page, click on the little square box right next to the "Daily statistics" graphic.  This will allow you to download a CSV file with all the sales data for that month intact; it's all still there.  I just tested it to make sure, and the CSV file had all my November sales including Partner Program and Subs.

Hope this helps; don't know if it'll show your premium access sales.

You can still access your daily credit sales from your istock Profile page.  It won't tell you what images sold, but it will tell you how many and give you a daily total.  Keep in mind that this is for credit sales only.  Log into your account and click onto your Profile page.  Scroll down and locate "Downloads," just above your January sales graph. Right next to the "Downloads" type, you should see a very small square box outline.  This box is visible on Safari and Chrome, but not on Firefox.  If you click on the box, it'll download a CSV file with your latest daily statistics.  It works even better on my iPad, which instantly opens the CSV file onto a new page in Safari.  Don't know how much longer this will be available, but it's still working as of this writing.

Shady Sue recently posted:

"I did it on my phone, no problem.  For the computer (It worked directly from FF last night but this morning I can't seem to change from daily to monthly - the below is working as of this moment): Go to the top thread ("Unification changes ..." on the Discussion Forum on the iS site. The top post there gives several links to 'missing' information, including links to the CSV for 2016, 2015 etc.  (clicking the link starts the download, so I don't have the URI)."

Anyone know where the link is for the "Discussion Forum" on the iS site that ShadySue mentions above?  I don't see it anywhere on iStock.  The only link I see is for the "Contributor Community;" is that what ShadySue is talking about?  That link takes me to the Getty Images/iStock site, and my iStock login info doesn't work there.

"(clicking the link starts the download, so I don't have the URI)"  What's a URI?

I often look at Fotolia's best selling images of the day/week to see sales trends, and came upon these two images: https://us.fotolia.com/p/206441223

Both were listed as "best sellers of the day" yesterday, and now they're included in the "best sellers of the week" list.  They seem to be the only two images in this photographer's portfolio, so he/she is off to a good start.

I am totally baffled by these images; I don't understand them as stock photographs.  I'd like to hear your comments on why they seem to have such a high sales appeal.  The only theme I can come up with would be something along the lines of "urban decay," but again I would think that wouldn't have significant commercial value on a microstock site.

Please know that I am NOT being critical of the photographer; I am NOT stating that these are bad images or that the author is a bad photographer.  Quite the opposite actually; I have to congratulate anyone whose only two photos have made it to the "best sellers of the day/week" lists.

I'm looking forward to hearing your comments and insights; hopefully I'll learn something new.
