Is anyone having trouble logging into Alamy? When I try to login, the page just refreshes itself and asks me to login again.

Beverly is the family name, and my point and shoot is a Nikon d7100 usually in Aperture mode on a tripod with a gen 2 kit lens (usually around 55mm).  At 60 degrees north, the sun is never bright even on the brightest day and ISO of 1600 is usually required to even to have a hope of freezing the branches and leaves of the low brush that covers most of Alaska.  So, noise is a problem all of the time.  However, none of that deals with the infinity of tiny mirrors that a granular field ice produces and looks like noise.  How do you deal with that situation?

ISO 1600 will cause noise every time. Better to increase your shutter speed first than the ISO. Find your shutter speed first and then adjust the ISO.

Shutterstock.com / Confusing Rejections re: Vintage
« on: June 01, 2017, 19:03 »
I have a huge collection of old stamps, post cards, and envelopes that I've been slowly scanning and adding to Shutterstock. Lately the rejections and acceptances have been confusing.

Stamps with postmarks not affixed to post card are accepted (submitted as editorial)
Post cards without stamps are accepted (submitted as editorial and commercial, depending on whether the post card is addressed to someone)
Post cards with stamps and postmarks are NOT accepted with the rejection reason given as no longer accepting public domain images or images with public domain elements (submitted as editorial)

That doesn't make sense, since stamps and post cards without stamps are accepted despite being in the public domain.  What do y'all think?  Am I missing something here or is the reviewer in error?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How Do I Find My Photos?

Thanks! So basically it's just my old iStock page. Annoying, because the new format makes it difficult to see clearly which images I have online.

When I click on "Upload and Review Content" on ESP, there's nothing there. Profile doesn't show anything either.

Taking way too long. I had a bunch of photos for Montana's recent special election that were shot 4 days prior to the election, and they weren't approved until the day before.

It could be the pen, too. Copyright design.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Creativemarket... your experience?
« on: December 21, 2016, 17:59 »
I'm pretty annoyed right now from the other side at them.... went to buy a $39 vector and although I could put it on my credit card, if I want to use the cash in my Paypal account I have to buy credits that I'm sure will expire before I could ever use.  So it will cost $50 U.S. or $69 Cdn.  if I want to pay cash.  No thanks!

I just use my Paypal debit card for purchases on Creativemarket. Never had a problem or been required to purchase credits.

iStockPhoto.com / Just Checking on December Payment
« on: December 21, 2016, 17:56 »
Last year iStock paid us a week before Christmas. Such a nice gesture! This year, however, I haven't received a payment yet, so I was just wondering if anyone knew if they returned to their normal schedule this year.  Kinda like to know just in case they are holding my payment for someone and I need to contact support.  Thanks!

10
I have a similar problem but slighlty different..the automatic payout is not working to me and my money are still on IS from two months...ok they're growing sensibly but is like i cannot go to the ATM and withdraw my money   :o hahahah

In my case it was the tax interview - which apparently expired and I had to submit again - they said I will get my payment in the next round (as I understood).
It is here: http://www.istockphoto.com/tax-interview/start in case you want to check yours.

So does this mean we have to resubmit our tax information every year?

as far as i know meta data is stripped from the file when you buy it, i have bought images without any meta data whatsoever

As far as I've seen you are correct. The agencies all strip out our personal data, before they put it on their catalog. The file loses anything to connect to the artist. Just another way to make it easier for misuse and thiefs.

I actually spoke with a copyright attorney about the issue of agencies stripping metadata from our images, and all he could tell me was there haven't been any cases about it in US courts, so for the time being it's perfectly legal.
Something wrong with this line of reasoning. No such cases in US courts does not make the conduct legal or acceptable.
There just hasn't been any court cases as yet.

Right. And until there is a court case, the agencies can do whatever they want with the metadata. He explained to me that agencies started removing metadata in the early days of the web, because bytes took up precious server space, and they were trying to save space.  But now, there's absolutely no reason for them to continue doing that.

I'm barely getting sales...about $20 a month.  :(

StockXpert.com / Payday Date?
« on: December 08, 2016, 17:32 »
Payday used to be on the last day of the month. Then it changed (without notice, of course) to a few days later.  Now I have no clue.  It seems to fall somewhere around the time when they report subscription earnings around the 15th.  Does anyone know?  Thanks!

Yep...still there and still getting a payout every few months. Like Angela, they were one of my top earners before the buyout...wish it had never sold.

« on: September 04, 2016, 13:14 »
What the *bleep* happened?! My sales tanked in August after all these *wonderful* changes...earned less than 1/6th of my normal average. I haven't had a month that bad since October 2006 at 123RF!!! Please don't tell me 123RF pulled a Fotolia move and relegated my portfolio (and others) to the bottom of the heap where I'll never see sales again.

Yes. Standard procedure when a US holiday falls on a Monday.

Shutterstock.com / Re: When does Shutterstock pay out?
« on: June 10, 2016, 00:27 »
I didn't get the "your Shutterstock earnings have been computed" email until the 7th, where it is normally the 1st-3rd, so obviously they are behind. Hopefully the team that wrote the uploading code hasn't been allowed to touch the payout code.

Yep...I also received the "earnings computing" email on the 7th and have yet to be paid. First time since my very first payment in Dec 2005 that I haven't received my payment before the 10th.  SS says the delay is the result of Paypal being denied its license in Turkey, but if that's true, then why are folks in the US like dbvirago and me affected? It doesn't make sense.

StockXpert.com / Re: Mass Payment Sent to Skrill, Not Paypal

According to support, it was an error on iStock's part.  They resent my payment to my Paypal account and all is good now.

September marks my 10th anniversary with Shutterstock, and oddly enough, so far this summer has been my best ever in terms of overall revenue.  It's the first summer where I didn't experience any drops in revenue and actually had decent increase in revenue...a very nice change of pace.

StockXpert.com / Mass Payment Sent to Skrill, Not Paypal
« on: July 21, 2015, 13:51 »
Just wanted to let everyone know that if you requested payment from StockXpert before July 17th and wanted it sent to Paypal, it was mistakenly sent to Skrill.   >:(  I've sent two support tickets (one before, one after discovering the error) and will let you know what I find out.

Here it is, May 27th...and no payment from iStock.  The period ending April 30th is still pending.  Anyone else having an issue?  I see there were problems last month, too.  So frustrating!

Quite a few of mine were rejected at other sites, so I'm pretty happy they now have a chance to earn income.
