iStockPhoto.com / Re: Payoneer
« on: October 23, 2013, 12:50 »
Hi Guys,

Payoneer does provide an official payout solution for iStockPhoto, and many other stock photography companies worldwide. iStockPhoto does have their own branded Payoneer card, which I'm sure they offered you, however (as mentioned above) you can also link all your accounts with companies that pay with Payoneer to the same Payoneer account.

We generally recommend this as it is much more efficient and cost effective for you.

The Payoneer card is an excellent solution for you to receive your funds quickly, and at a low cost. If you have any questions about Payoneer, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks again!

I am sorry, it is just NOT an excellent service. The fees are arbitrary and outrageous at times. The services are rude and poor.

Once I was on road and could not remember my PIN. When I phoned, the support number on the card was changed but I didn't know. I finally googled and got the number. The rep told me that she would not help me with the PIN because I must go to PAYONEER website, and request the PIN sent to me by email. But I was travelling and did not wish to use a public computer to log in and check email account which deals with financial matters. It was rather hopeless.

Stock Performer / Re: Interview with Steve Cole!

"Thats one reason we do not shoot with flash or strobe anymore, we use LED or tungsten lights and shoot video and stills at the same time, time is money."

I saw Steve do a little of this at *.  Nice lighting, although large and heavy, which is why having his assistant was helpful.

He is a master of light, with or without additional lighting and assistant. Very artistic and creative.

FWIW, a friend found out his photo was on Zazzle products recently. That photo was not on any micros, but on a specialty site. He filed a complaint and got instructions as to how to proceed. Eventually the photo was taken down.

Has Zazzle responded to your inquiry?

Not only that! It is at least 2 months after you reached the payout, they clear the money. Say if you reach the payout in July, the money won't get cleared at least until October, and you'll be lucky to see that money in Paypal on November 7 or 8.

I read the mail and thought, boy, people must be having a hard time getting to the payout amount!  It speaks to sales volume dropping, more than kindness.

Sure it is a Paypal charge, but every other agency covers it for their contributors. Alamy is so poor that it cannot do the same.

From an admin on the Alamy forum.

Sorry if this isn't clear. Alamy aren't charging you here. The charge is a PayPal charge, which goes to PayPal. You can receive a free bank transfer in the UK or US, and if you're based outside you can get a free payment from Skrill.

But I don't buy this as I don't get charged by paypal for receiving payments from other american based sites.

I don't see why I should feel grateful about it. Every other agency pays when it reaches $50 - 100. Not only it does not perform that well, it is painfully slow in collecting our fees. Now it becomes the only one among the top and middle tier agencies to charge us a Paypal fee (and the only one I am aware of). So petty!!

Personally my sales are on an upward trend in October although September was a big disappointment.

If I were you, I would not change my status until at least the end of December. You don't want to miss the peak sales in any agencies.

Hi Zager, the video review is still very slow. My uploads from Sept 24 are still pending. I have lots of seasonal footages, it looks like I will miss the fall sales.

If the change can improve the site performance, I don't have any problems with removing these features.

This issue bothers me too. Especially my newer ones are better. I hope Getty will address it.

Why not just carry a lot of SD cards? They are pretty cheap these days.

Scott, would you please clarify if we can disclose our earnings to family and friends at all?

Does this new confidential rule mean that my spouse will not be able to know how much I make until we file for divorce or one dies?? What about parents, children and siblings?

289
I also have mixed feelings about this.

It may not be a bad thing, especially for seasoned photographers because it gives us more room to explore the creative and artistic side of photography. In the past, it seemed only the inspectors could try those approaches.

Ultimately, it is the buyers' call. They are not stupid.

Hi Zager,

You said in your previous reply that the footage inspection queue is about 10 days.

Some of my footages have been waiting for more than 20 days. What should I do?

My sale are back but less than usual before new site... I hope that will reach old level...
Another thing what is problem to me on Zazzle is tax... They are taxing all sales not just US based...

Is it because of the discounts? I sold a few postcards this month, which are deeply discounted.

I think someone had raised the issue of enforceability earlier. It is unlikely they are going to police the whole community, but they can terminate you for cause by citing the confidentiality clause, especially in a situation when one contributor causes some real discomfort like Sean did at IS.

It is dangerous.

The part that you cannot talk about your own earning does not seem to be fair.

It's because SS are now a publically traded company and therefore have to comply with regulations.

Significant changes to your own earnings for example could be deemed 'insider information' so they don't want contributors blabbing about it all over the internet. It might lead to a situation in which some traders have information, that could affect the share price, that others do not.

Definitely not, please read the definition of "insider" carefully, I doubt even someone like Yuri could qualify for an "insider" because contributors are not employees and their shares in SS would not likely to be of "controlling" significanc. As a public trading company, SS only has higher obligation for transparency and disclosure.

"we respectfully ask that you do the same and keep specific information about your earnings private. General characterizations are fine."

That seems a bit restrictive.  Wonder what extent is too much.

Are they asking or telling?
It appears to be a contractual obligation that you don't talk about your earnings. I am surprised that your family members are not included in the exemption.

Other agencies, if I remember correctly, such as Fotolia or maybe DT, forbid contributors to talk about DLs and earnings in their own forums, but put no restrictions other than their own sites. IS has a monthly thread discussing DLs and earnings.

The new terms are nicely penned, but it does not change the harsh nature of the reality. By the way, I am a video contributor to SS.

6. Confidentiality
By submitting any Content to Shutterstock, you acknowledge that you will acquire certain confidential information, including but not limited to royalty rates, royalty payments and earnings data (collectively, "Confidential Information"). Confidential Information shall not be disclosed to any third party other than representatives, agents, attorneys, accountants, auditors and advisors with a bona fide need to know, who shall first agree to keep the terms confidential.

It's in the TOS so talking about your "royalty rates, royalty payments and earnings data" or other things (whatever they are) would be a violation and I guess could result in the termination of your account.

I wish they allow the contributors to opt out of social media.

Alamy.com / Re: RM pricing - up to 70% off
« on: September 15, 2013, 22:40 »
I don't think alamy will cut commissions percentages any time soon.  They wouldn't be worth using for any less than they pay now.  Only the sites that sell a lot can get away with it.  It would kill alamy, as the decent commission is the only thing that makes a lot of us bother with them.  Now prices are being cut, there's no way they would be able to justify another commission cut.

If they could increase sales volume and contributors earnings a lot, they could get away with cutting commissions again but that looks a long way off.  I'm not sure they will ever want to pay less commission percentages than they do now, as it would make them even more like Getty and then what would be the point of alamy?

Sharpshot, some contributors including myself, have very unique RM images which will not sell in volumn. I would have agreed with you if we were talking about RF images. Alamy's move is certainly not a postive sign.
