November stats are now in.

- DALL-E beats Midjourney in almost every aspect (except realism).  And it has the huge advantage that you can ask it to adjust the generated images (no need for inpainting or using generative fill, just prompt in ChatGPT what needs to be changed).

Midjourney can do that too. You can mark what part of the image you want changed and it will do that.

Anyone else has problems with their payment since Canva changed from Hyperwallet to Trolley?

I used to get my money via bank transfer, no problems at all. I just got a mail from Canva that my latest payment failed and I should update my bank information. Problem: The old bank information is correct, so I have nothing to change it to.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS just screwed up the site again
« on: December 14, 2023, 10:37 »
Yeha, already have this since a few days ago.
All I see is a "fancy looking" new design that does really nothing but take away multiple very useful features. There is absolutely no benefit to this change. Just a new look, less functionality.

As you said the ability to copy keywords is gone and this is one I use all the  time to keyword images with similar topics. But also the keyword tool is gone - one of the only real good features, if not probably the only good feature, SS added in recent years and a really useful tool I used each and every single time to check whether I had missed some obvious keywords.

I don't see the point. You want a new design? Sure, if that makes you happy. But don't remove features with it.... again.

The feedback option is pointless. When they changed the dashboard I saw not a single contributor who said he liked the new version. Everyone hated it it. I know I still do, with a passion. I hardly check my earnings on SS anymore.
THey also had a feedback option and I cannot believe they got one single positive feedback. Yet the horrible new dashboard was never changed back.
I send them very detailed feedback with a list of all the things I did not like about the new design and even with explanations why they were a huge downgrade. Seems like this was a waste of time. Seriously doubt a human even ever saw the feedback.

For now the new submit/edit page does not bother me much as SS gives me the option to change back to the old design - But I suspect there will be a time when they make that option unavailable and I will be stuck with this new page.

One could almost think SS is really trying very very hard to get rid of as many of their contributors as possible.

This isn't exactly news, but I thought it was still worth sharing, because this is just so bizzare:

I just stumbled upon this movies webpage and they use AI generated images instead of photos of actors.  :o motionpicturemagazine.com

Some of the actors are hardly recognizable.

And I also found a website for Asian cooking recipes that also uses AI generated images.
asian-foodie.de

And some of the results are, well, let's say questionable.
Okonomiyaki. The real thing on the left and the AI version on the right. I'd be scared if my Okonomiyaki looked like this.

Supposedly it was today but AI ACT agreement in Europe is not reached yet.
This week France, Italy and Germany came with the idea of Self-regulation. In some cases self regulation can be interpreted as no regulation at all.

Oh yes, German politicans just love "self-regulation".  ::)

Mat, can you please clarify what exactly is allowed and what not?

It would be a real bummer if Adobe srated randomly banning contributors again, because their rules are unclear.

In this thread the article writing about Adobe's AI image they show examples of for example a refugee girl or a riot.
https://www.microstockgroup.com/fotolia-com/ai-dumpster-fire-policies-land-as-in-trouble-again/new/#new

To my understanding, these images do not claim to have been taken at any particular real life event and should be okay with Adobe. But what exactly is defined as " actual newsworthy event."?

If an image shows a random riot or refugee, without specifying that it was taken at any particular location, event or time, is it still an "actual newsworthy event."?
The article seems to think so, but to my understanding these images are just concept, not claiming to be from any event.

From me reading what they've written, my belief/interpretation is this:

a) If it is in 'general' terms (i.e., "Girl in Riot", "War Torn Girl"), etc - then that is fine (or even for that matter, something like "Illustration Depicting Ukraine War"). Because it is clear it is an illustration/concept/generated/etc.
b) But if you pretend/try and deceive/make it look like a real photo, i.e., "Real Photo of Girl standing in Kiev, Ukraine on Sept 20th, 2023", then that is deceptive/misleading, and not okay, because it is trying to mislead/show that it is 'real' footage/etc, when it clearly is not.

That's also my understanding, but I really want it confirmed by Mat officially, because reading that article not everyone seems to see it that way and I really do not want Adobe to ban my account for breaking rules I was not aware of breaking. Adobe has been super ban-happy lately, so I want to make absolutely sure that not only I understand it that way, but Adobe staff as well.

It would be nice to have more feedback from Adobe about what is allowed and what not.

Because some of the examples in the new article, to my understanding, do not break Adobe's new AI rule, like "a girl holding his (sic) teddy bear with destructive civilian area during war time, sorrow scenery of war victims, idea for support childrens right" or the BLM protest image.
They show concepts but do not claim to be taken at a particular place or a particular time at any particular real event.

Canva / Re: Canva Tax Forms
« on: November 30, 2023, 03:22 »
I hate Canvas site layout SO SO much!
They tell me I need to update my payment method as well, but I cannot find the option anymore!

Can anyone help me?

 The FAQ says

"1. Log in to your Canva account.

2. On the top corner of the homepage, click the gear icon to go to your Account Settings.

3. From the side panel, click Payments.

4. Go to the Details tab."

But there is no "Payments" option in the side panel! There is only "billing & plans" where I can find settings to make payments to cnava, not settings to get payments from Canva.

I clicked on every single link in the side panel (Your account / Login & security / Message preferences / Privacy settings / Personal / People / Billing & plans / Purchase history / Domains / Manage teams / Domains", there is no option to upcate my payment method anywhere.

I have talked with their stupid AI chat bot and it keeps telling me to click on stuff where there is nothing to click like "botton left corner" - I only have a trash icon there. And when I tell that to the stupid chat bot it says something like "I apologize for the confusion, go to ..." and then it tells me a completely different location where that option is supposed to be, but it's also not there. It's so frustrating, as if that chat bot was just making things up....

Because canva is so  freakin' impossible to navigate, I had bookarked many of their sites so I could find them again, but the links all lead to "not found (404)" pages now.

Stocksy / Re: Is it worth uploading to Stocksy?
« on: November 28, 2023, 02:27 »
Haha. 🤭Now watch every one flock over there to join like chickens to feed! So crazy.  I'm sure once that happens, sadly they will lower contributor earnings.
Sigh.......☹️

I doubt that will happen.
They have been known to be the best earning agency for pretty much for everyone they accept for a long time and they are very strict about who they accept. I never got accepted and I earn my living with microstock, so my photos can't be that bad.

Adobe Stock / Re: Similars policy
« on: November 27, 2023, 02:38 »
Adobe didn't have a strict policy on similar images, at least I never had a single of my images rejected for that reason for years.

Might be different nowadays, I do not know. I stopped submitting real photos as I suddenly went from a  less that 5% rejection rate to a 60% rejection rate, so maybe their similar rule has become stricter as well.

Off Topic / Re: I will never use AI
« on: November 23, 2023, 01:09 »
Many talk about selling AI images. For private use ist o.k. but not for the purpose of making money on other peoples intellectual property.

I will never use AI. Anybody else on this forum? If I would do so, I am no longer myself but a thief.

I actually agree with you that it is stealing. However, since it does not look like laws will see it that way an I am one of the artists whos photos were stolen to train AI without my agreement, why should everyone but me now profit from the result of my stolen work?

114
The only other agency that even accepts AI content where I submit to is Dreamstime and hardly any images sell there anyways, AI or not.

115
I was always under the impression that most agencies do not allow upscaling. Am I mistaken there or has this changed with AI?

First time I am hearing of this. Upscaling was never a problem to my knowledge.

116
Why should images get refused for that reason? If they look like a photo, I submit them as photo. If they look like an illustration, I submit them as illustration.

If you ask me, they should not be submitted as photos or illustrations, because they are neither. They should get their own AI category. But Adobe does not offer that, so either illustration or photo it is.

Adobe Stock / Re: This is highly unprofessional
« on: November 08, 2023, 07:45 »
Still about one month review time for me.

the review time may be linked somehow to the upload limits in my opinion,I don't know how much content you upload in a year.

For example, before AI,I uploaded about a thousand content in a year, and I always had much fewer rejections and shorter waiting times compared to others.

Maybe. But I never uploaded anywhere near the numbers of AI images some people here mention that they do and I never even came close to reaching any upload limit.

Not sure that's a factor. I do not know what it is, but apparently some contributors are treated very differently on Adobe than others.

It's always like this with Adobe. No one really understands their editorial illustrative guidelines. I have firmly come believe that the reviewers do not understand them themselves.

I have photos of souvenir shops in my port that were accepted - others get rejected for not meeting the editorail photo guideline, yet I cannot see the slightest difference in them. They are all photos that clearly show licensed products and no people. Then I have a few brand products photographed - some images get accepted, others get rejected. Again, same brand, no people. There is absolutely no sence behind this.
I have given up.

Adobe Stock / Re: recent top sellers list?
« on: November 07, 2023, 04:10 »
I've been in the bestseller list once that I am aware of (I do not check regularly, so it could have been more often, but then I did not see an effect) and my sales went up during that time.

121
It's hard to tell without more information about the content and the placement - it's not seasonal, but is there any other timely factor that would make it higher in demand during certain times, like some current news event? You say it's still on top of "several" seraches, but is it still on top for the most obvious one? It's a big difference if an image is on top for the search for a very popular keyword or just one of the minor keywords or even just the combination of keywords. Another possible factor - Have other images with similar content appeared in the top of the search that customers might prefer?

Paypal / Re: Paypal new currency conversion
« on: November 01, 2023, 02:46 »
Where are you seeing this? As far as I know it was always set by default to the currency of your country. When I signed up with paypal years ago my first payment in USD was converted into CAD, I had to manually change my primary currency to USD to stop the auto conversion of USD deposits. I just now logged in to see if anything changed but my primary currency is still in USD although I'm in Canada.

For me there was a notification icon on the right and when I clicked on it I was sent to the info page about the changes and there were the different options to select. However, for me, unlike for wheeeeee,  the third option was pre-set on default, so nothing really changed for me.

123
If you use "remove background" in PS does the image get tagged as AI and therefore create problems if you submit as Stock?

I think its just if you use generative AI. Unless you shoot in old cameras the new ones already have AI features like they can recognize and track objects, adjust settings based on the scene, and improve image quality through noise reduction and enhanced sharpness.

Almost everything has AI nowadays... And to be honest, I can't wait for my stove and pan to cook MasterChef recipes for me.  :)

I am not aware of any new cameras having AI features (yet).

Some people keep confusing AI with the broad term of technology and automation, but it is not the same.

AI can deal with conceptual ideas and uncertainty, and can analyze and apply new information to react to new situations.

Automation technology follows rules to handle straightforward tasks, and cant react to new situations. This includes things like noise reduction, object tracking or sharpness enhancement.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe missions. Participate?
« on: October 25, 2023, 05:56 »
Interesting. I do not have this mission, but two different ones with people instead.
How much money are they offering you? Will you participate?
$80
No, I will not participate.
Studio setting (the greenscreen mission says no shadows/no folds in background, so that requires proper lighting and backdrop studio equipment or editing)  + shooting people + model release is a way too high demand for just $80, or even $40 if you don't do self-portraits and have a second person involved. Just not worth the effort for me.
