I dont understand, everyone knew they messed up and that a claw back was on the way. If you held onto the overpayment, there is no impact on your financials. The money wasnt ours in the first place. Bring on the down votes, but its the same with taxes. You need to pay back overpayments. So you put the money aside for when they come and get it. If you've spent the money, you only have yourself to blame.

The main difference with iStock and taxes is that with taxes you get calculations and explanations. iStock just grabs back money because they say they have overpaid you.

No real explanations with numbers or explanations how and why this fiasco happened, just the regular totalitarian moves from the iStock regime.

Software / Re: article on Adobe Creatice Cloud

This sounds like Blackmail.

It's like if I built a house with tools. And when the house is ready, the tool manufacturer takes the keys away - even if they have not built the house nor paid for it.

If there was a serious alternative to Photoshop, I would switch to it in a heartbeat.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What is your most selling image?

I won't send my bestsellers here. If I did, soon there would be 100 similar images :(

I think I need to add more positions to my stock photos.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Best noise reduction program
« on: January 20, 2014, 09:23 »
Not applicable
Meaning, not relevant.

You should not spend time on noise reduction.
It is far better to get noisefree exposures, and that is possible with modern cameras, or turn your viewfinder at something else.
Sorry, you shoot what you like and let me shoot what I like.
If that needs 1/1600th sec or faster, and I need 1600 or faster ISO, what is it to you if I use, or don't use, NR?

He said in that case you should turn your wievfinder at something else. I shoot stock mostly at 100 ISO, and very rarely over 400 ISO.

I use a combination of the things below:
- correct exposure (this is important) with raw, as light as possible without blowing out the highlights too much
- Large apertures (2-ish)
- Image stabilisator
- Studio strobes
- Using tripod (when long exposures cause noise, I just stack a few images to get rid of it)
- Shooting when there is light (not trying to shoot moving objects/people on murky winter days)
- resizing the image smaller if too much noise

etc. etc.

Everybody are linking these photos on Facebook, but I don't find them so special. There are a few good photos, the rest is just heavy manipulation (not to be mixed with great photography).
I'd prefer a slightly more naturalistic tonality/colors.

I think a part of this boom is explained by the acceptance of "illustrative editorial" images. For instance I haven't produced new images in a month or so, but I have still uploaded 200+ images (editorial images that have been rejected earlier - over half of them are now accepted, and some of them are already selling :)).

iStockphoto seems to have North Korea as their role model.
Heck, I feel like I was working for North Korea already.

135
the article you are linking was from October 31, 2013 and it was in no way related to the Partner Program issues.

Why couldn't you just say "it is in no way related to the Partner Program issues" and leave the link there? I hope you do understand that all this hiding and other shenanigans seem very suspicious?

I'm not digging the girl on the grey background, but the rest look like they would fit fine into the collection.

^^^^^ Exactly my opinion!

Computer Hardware / Re: Switchng from Windows to Mac
« on: November 21, 2013, 11:02 »

Yesterday I realized that Apple's hook strategy is working.  I have two Ipads, and Iphone, an Itouch, an Ipod and now and I Mac.  Holy cow.
Thats the exact reason I am not touching Apple products

But they sync so well together (I have a Mac Mini, iMac, Macbook, iPad and iPhone :))

It's soon time to celebrate "1 month without stats"... maybe we should throw a party? Maybe buy a cake with candles?

Yes, you can light a flying plane with 30kWs of flashes, but I don't find the results that interesting.

(Is this really a new video? I have a feeling I have read about this shoot for months or years ago...)

yep, there was a photographer who did something similar a couple years ago

No, it was Arcurs: http://blog.johnlund.com/2011/01/yuri-arcurs-leading-microstock.html (in the end of the page)

I see only the 7 first days of october, but on those days my PP sales are about two times what they usually are... I'm starting to suspect something is wrong... (I hope not, I'm certainly enjoying the money rolling in!)

BUT if uploads would dip deeply, it could work as a signal.
I think you over-estimate the percentage of iS contributors on msg. Possibly most here have realised the futility of uploading nowadays anyway.

Of course other forums etc. should be included in this. Maybe even private messages to contributors, and an official website for the campaign.

so your point is that all of us should leave iStock? good one ;D

If ALL of us would do that, it would be a very good thing. The buyers would be smart enough to find our new stuff on other sites.

I wonder if it would be possible to organize a "don't upload to iStock for a month" -month, and how many of contributors would join? This could be doable especially with their current limitless uploading (you can always upload your stuff next month).

I think you already have your answer in the deactivation campaign from the beginning of the year.

Yes... but I would definitely not start to deactivate my images, I have invested time and energy in uploading my images. If I deactivate my best sellers, I will earn much less. If I deactivate my non-sellers, nobody won't notice anything...

BUT if uploads would dip deeply, it could work as a signal.

If the uploads suddenly went down - let's be optimistic and say - 70% for a month, maybe people at iStock would start to understand something. That they WORK FOR US and THEY EXIST ONLY BECAUSE WE ALLOW THEM TO EXIST.  Of course they have a track record of not understanding things...

I'm trying to figure out the license... Picfair's license is for one use only, not quite RF... does this mean I can upload my Alamy "L" images...

I managed a BME which was nice to see

Nice to hear someone is doing fine, it gives hope for the whole industry.

My month has been a disaster, about -30% down from last years october. The year started nicely, but after summer things have been horrible... :(

It can't be true. We all have heard that royalty percentages over 20% are totally unsustainable!
