In current version Symbiostock doesn't support languages other than English and language files are not used. All messages are hardcoded in theme files. Only few (for example in pagination navigator, maybe login window) come from Wordpress and language settings work there.
But be careful: for example "Next" in German version becomes "Nchste" and there are problems with German "" in files used for network communication, so images from German sites are not visible in network results 
I'm sorry, but not all messages are hardcoded, in the textdomain default it has around 107, and textdomain symbiostock has 144 as you can check by using plug-ins such as CodeStyling Localization, Loco Translate, etc. So, IMHO it has a good part of the job done to get to use .mo files. Just need to find out how to make SS theme use these files as a newbie I'm in PHP codes. ;0)

Hi folks, I did my first upload and it gave the image ID# 203 instead of #1.
Any Idea why? Is there some way to change it to ID#1 or was it some reason to give a higher ID# on the 1st upload?

Have you clicked on HELP from the official http://www.symbiostock.com/? I understand that a own forum for SS theme and in one single place would be much better than spread for all around the web, but the way it is organized now a days within sections into MicrostockGroup, is not disturbing people that were annoyed with such posts, once the posts about SS theme are not showing up in other sections. I mean if the user places in the correct category. :0) Now, I'll found out that I would have more feedback over there? I would get a feed back from Leo? Well, if Leo closed it due spam, he would open it by requesting through some e-mail and make the new user provide that have a Symbio site. ;0) Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hi Lucato; your problem seems pretty complex and refers to files I have not seen mentioned before. You had previously asked about other languages and mentioned plugins (I think). Is this relating to plugins to convert the language? It sounds like something that requires advanced programming knowledge. Unfortunately I don't have that. Maybe after Christmas there will be more people online that can help.

did you check 'save as defaults'?
- Yes I have also tried this way by checking this checkbox, but when clicking on "Save Changes", it refreshes the page and brings back the old value and not keep the new typed one as mentioned before. Weird. What browser and WP/SS versions are you using? Here it is SS theme 2.9.9 and WP 3.8.

Because some folks here were getting annoyed with continual Symbiostock threads, so the Symbiostock forum was started.

Hi folks, not sure if it is just happening with me, but in the SS theme back-end at Symbiostock > Author Options tab, I have entered once the text I wanted into the "Append Text to Tittle" input field, but now, when I try to change it and click on "Save Changes", it brings back the previous text and do not keep the new typed text. So it isn't saving the changes at "Append Text to Tittle". I've tried on Chrome and FireFox and the same issue on both.
Are you guys facing the same issue or you get to change it normally?

P.S.: I just got to change it by changing directly into the database (phpMyAdmin). SS theme 2.9.9 and WP 3.8.

I think I got it now. But it is a little of topic (not being rude, don't get me wrong). ;0) I mean, I think you're referring to strings for translations. By the way, have nice plug-ins to find the strings, but a lot of texts in the theme aren't connected to strings and just typed the phrase/word into the .php code. I have posted in another place for Leo that:

In your list of pages, you should have one with the URL image-categories/ and its template page needs to be Categories Page. Put that in your menu and the code will fill it with the list - it's single column by default but it is alphabetized. Is it possible that you changed the page template? Jo Ann, just found it out. It was showing nothing (No categories) because I hadn't uploaded any image. So, you must have at least one image to make the categories shows up in that list otherwise, they won't show. That is why I was getting a blank page. Before finding that out and post here, in my toughts, once I had the categories already built and listed in the image categories, they should show up, even empty. :0) I think your best bet with the current state of Symbiostock, which is not set up for I18N, is to work on some custom pages that you control the order of. For example, I made a Gallery of categories after we switched to the single level menus, and I control the order of that (so I can move currently applicable things to the first row).
I have two themes, one original and one copy. So, if something goes wrong on the one I'm working on, I test on the original theme to check it if wasn't any issue by editing some .php lines. So, I think there is no problem. So, as you see, I thought it was an issue (empty img cat page), but it was how SS works: Need to have atleast one image within the category. As far as getting the theme changed, it would be good for all sorts of reasons to pull all the user-displayable strings (and formatting; I've taken out horizontal rules that were embedded in the code). That's a conversation to have with Leo though.

Beppe, thanks for the info, but all mine are unchecked and I think it works on the contrary. I mean: 1. Checked = Disabled; 2. Uncheck = Abled. I think the selected ones on your image you have disabled them. "This page lets you ignore particular boards." . ;0)

Hi Jo Ann, I figured it out a bit. The subject was messing with 2 different things: 1. I found out with your help that by changing the slug, I get to sort the order within the back-end at the Image Categories page only, but it doesn't take any effect where I wanted that was on the menu on the front-end. 2. So, I noticed that to sort on the menu on the front-end I have to do it manually by dragging & dropping the sort of the menus items. Until here it is ok if it was single language site, but I'm using a multi-language site in the same theme. So, I need to find some way to sort the menus when in English and sort in other order (alphabetically) when in pt_BR. See this list (my CSS paginates this but this is otherwise unchanged from the out-of-the-box Symbiostock)

I have created a menu item with the "Image Category" PAGE, but when clicking on it, it shows a blank page instead of a list like yours. If sorting were by ID then none of the categories I created would be in the right order. I'm not installing plugins, but if you use Inspect Element (or whatever your browsers show the code mode is) on my page above I think the IDs are in the cat-item-xxx class. You can see that the order of my categories is not based on IDs.
I see, it really doesn't follow the ID, but as I said above I think it works just for this case and not for menu order. ;0) And as for the menus, I was writing without thinking - the order of those is based on my menu entries, not any internal sorting - so that was a red herring.
I think it is the subject I wanted and not a "red herring" (if my language barrier didn'tmake I understand it wrong... hehehe), the menus, once I didn''t get yet to create an Image Category Page list. :0) Not sure what you might have done to get things into a state where your categories aren't sorting in alphabetical order, but it isn't as simple as the code doesn't do the right thing in the basic case. It's possible that there's something about your site, your plugins or something else in your WordPress setup that's causing the behavior.
I don't think it is some issue now, once as stated here we both were writing without thinking about the menus order by hand. ;0) Now I need to find out two things then: 1. how do I get to list the categories within an Image Categories page, once as I said above, I have created a menu item with the "Image Category" PAGE, but when clicking on it, it shows just a blank page without all Image categories like yours. 2. Depending on whether you have any direct links to the old slug - in my case http://www.digitalbristles.com/image-type/abstract-backgrounds-textures/ - you can change the slug to fix the sort order
and just be ready for google to throw some 404 errors in webmaster tools -- these will be fixed automatically by google when they re-crawl, but can be scary if you're not expecting them

You change an Image Category name in the Symbiostock area of the WP admin panel.

If you change the display name but not the slug (you will see both fields in the Image Category UI), the menus will sort in the order of the slug, not the display name.

Install the plug-in " Revel IDs" and you will get to see the page of your Image Categories with a new column called "ID" on the very right side and by clicking on the column headers (over ID text) you get to sort by ID (ascending / descending), this way you will see if your Image Categories are following the ID orders or the slugs. I just changed my category Abstract | Background | Texture (which had abstract-backgrounds-textures as its slug) to be Backgrounds and Textures but I left the slug alone. If you look in the menus it appears above Animals in the list
Try to check the ID# to see it it wasn't a coincidence of the order with the ID instead of the slug. Depending on whether you have any direct links to the old slug - in my case http://www.digitalbristles.com/image-type/abstract-backgrounds-textures/ - you can change the slug to fix the sort order

Good insights! And I'm with you all the way on that. After everyone has enjoyed a nice period of stability (perhaps a few months) I intended to separate it into a series of plugins, and the Symbiostock "Theme" would be nothing more than a highly flexible basis for styling and extending -- but the brute work would be done by installable modules. - Yes, Them SS theme would become a kind of WordPress without needing WP. So, Symbiostock would be a content management system instead of a theme. :0) Or not, maybe it is reinvent the wheel. :0) On the other hand, thinking better, by having it within WP, you have options to use other thousand of plugins already created. Well, regarding the new phase, I'm just starting my SS and didn't even had time to upload and start to join the Network and see the results, besides that didn't get the idea very well, maybe a language barrier, therefore, I think I can't opine for a while on this matter. P.S.: Leo, I've sent you 2 emails from your site, not sure if you have received. My language barrier, I'm sorry about that. :0) 1st post edited. ;0) you can add or delete categories from the Images menu, and they sort alphabetically. are you trying to change the category records directly?
- I just edited the "name" field directly, but not created a record or deleted or so on, because I know there are records connected with IDs between tables (Ex: wp_terms with wp_terms_taxomony) - It doesn't seem to sort alphabetically. Please, give a look at Jo Ann's Symbiostock site ( DigitalBristles) - Image Categories.

Hi Leo, I know it is an old thread, but just to add an info/knowledge. The category filed within IPTC they tried to create a default/standard categories, but it didn't work where I know. So, the Category field [IPTC IIM] was deprecated (removed from use) when IPTC Core 1.0 was released in 2005, although it may appear in some applications supporting IPTC IIM. Here is a list of old "Default" categories. Hi folks, I wonder how to sort Symbiostock Image Categories Alphabetically.
I mean, it seams that it is sorted by ID. I have a multi-language site and when translating, the categories isn't sorted alphabetically. I have seen a lot of single-language sites (English) that the categories aren't ordered alphabetically too.
Any idea how to solve it? Even by hacking the code.
