Shutterstock.com / Re: No, "Thank You"
« on: May 07, 2008, 13:43 »
I thank my boss every week when he gives me check ??? Why not considering what an excellent job I have and how many people would die to have it, it's the least I could do. Your boss should not have to thank you just because you do what is requiered of you as his employee. That just smells like "I am special and I deserve things" Hog wash when someone gives you something even if you are paying for it the proper thing to do is say "thank you". Now as far as SS yes it's a dumb thread everytime the payout is anounced that people rush in to state their thanks, why not just call Jon on the phone and say thank you. Come to think about it they {SS} should start the thread like this:

"We would like to thank all of the contributors for their hard work that keeps us employed, without your images we would have to be doing something more fustrating like flipping burgers or similar things ;D"

Then they could tell us what they write every month the paypal will go out on the 5 the ........
Allright enough I will sit down now  ;)

Hey what happen to all my site links on the bottom I only see featurepics?

27
Could you please wait for me to upload a few so I won't have to wait to long for my review ;D

Shutterstock.com / Re: Do you downsize images for SS?
« on: April 06, 2008, 21:52 »
Ever since I read a post by Sharply_done on the way to submit to SS I have been downsizing. It's the last step before I save the image. Have not had a rejection for noise since then and that was a while back.

29
It's just that as MP has a special place for you BigStock has it for me. first accepted images since I got into this nutty thing called stock, and always the rejections are fair and on target. and say hi to stacey for me ;)

30
Come on Mark relax a bit BigStock is one of the most forgiving sites around. Least rejections for me. In almost 2 years in June, 233 submitted 33 rejections.
Just a bad week I guess. It will get better.

Mostphotos.com / Re: Recent Conversations with MostPhotos
« on: March 26, 2008, 12:57 »
The ratings has not such a big impact on the index.!!!
You can not lower the index by giving a photo 1 or 2 in rating.
The system is more intelligent than that.
For example if you behave bad on the site, like in this case, voting low on pictures that does not deserve it, it will affect your trustworthiness. So what I want to say is that if you in someway behave badly, the site will notice that and your reliability will automatically go down and next time your word will be less worth.

But as I have said earlier the way buyers react is the main variable for the index.

I just noticed a photographer with more than 900 images online that has been blasted to a 1.5 index and 99 % of  his images show a -20 on the little thingy on top. The blaster has 15 images online and seems to hate girls in bikinis because he gave a 1 on comercial and a 1 on artistic to all the models with bikinis. Is a matter of fact the blaster has 49%  of the ratings given at 1 247 one's and counting (maybe I am next but I don't have girls with bikinis). Now how can a person with such low number of images on a web site that does'nt review making easy to dump your whole hard drive into it, have such a voting power over someone that I would say has a decent amount of good images? I still feel that once the image receives an initial rating based on the photographer's index there is no reason why it should drop because another image receives a low score from a lazy blaster that instead of working on his own images wants to play unofficial reviewer and adquire brownie points from HAL (the computer in the movie 2001 Space Odissey)
Just an observation I like the site but I have had to block 4 unofficial reviewers allready. I don't like the up and down numbers based on the blasters.  :P
By the way all of the images that I have online have been reviewed on other sites and are selling there. I'm not dumping my hard drive into MP.

Alamy.com / Re: Separate portfolios for RF and RM/ED?
« on: March 23, 2008, 22:20 »
I have both at Alamy. RF and Licensed. Just the licensed stuff doesn't go to the micros like SS the rest do in smaller file sizes. The more general subject
RF less general licensed. By the way I'm just starting out on Alamy only there for 2 months so take might words in that light.

Bigstock.com / Re: Downloads falling
« on: March 21, 2008, 14:49 »
I download every 3 days for me. But usually they are in the 2.00 range so it's steady enough.

35
The real odd thing about this, like a I wrote in the SS thread is that there is an ad at the bottom of the page for any site you search for. Istockphoto has over 1200 images on there.

36
the six batches of one I upload to IS daily. It's something I do with my morning uploads

Try DeepMeta.
I hate to advertise it. I know the guy since he lives close. But it's good.

That won't help at all.

I keyword specifically for IS after uploading, and the way their system grabs keywords from uploads works a bit differently than if keywords are entered after uploading is complete. In order to maximize income from IS it is necessary to use their CV to its fullest, which automation does not do.

The bottom line: By using the same keywords in IS as for other sites - using the CV merely as a translator - you are handicapping your sales there.

Could you please show us how you would keyword diff for IS an image?

Off Topic / Re: What do you think?
« on: March 17, 2008, 07:13 »

I thought this was a Microstock board, not a place for people to spew their hatred of the USA.

"spewing hatred" is perfectly understandable considering the situation. It's incredible the suffering of the Iraqi people now as a result of America's moronic foreign policy- just as it was incredible the suffering of the Vietnamese people. Just saying "communism" is a completely moronic justification, by the way jorgeinthewater. I think justifying Iraq by saying "Sadam lunatic" is also pretty lame, when you consider all the vaste array of lunatics that America supports when it's convenient to do so. But those who supported the war dont know much about that do they? To them, Saddam= hitler=bad, black and white, us vs them, all very simple, god is on our side, we ll win because we are good and they are evil. Very, very moronic. A country of overweight armchair imperialists that know absolutely NOTHING about the outside would should stick to their tv and donuts.

So much hate for a country that most of the time is just trying to help others. Every time there is a major natural disaster there goes the US with aid. Every time someone is beating up their next door neighbor there goes the US placing its finest young men in harms way.
The most moronic thing about all of your statements is not the words but the spirit of hatred that is making you write them.
For you info you uneducated person the US is made of 99% immigrants that came from all over the world looking for a better life, not trying to join an empire that wants to conquer the world. I'm one of them and I came from a communist dictatorship. But to go back and forth with you is truly not worth it because there is just too much hate in your heart for others.
PS don't have a TV hadn't had one for 13 years and the only donuts I like are Thai donuts with the condensed milk on top.
Peace to all except to you Harry you need love in your heart for others first.

You can have a SmugStock sub-section for people who want to pay, to make nothing, peer review to get accepted and annual subscription, plus photogs have to pay for bandwidth and pay per view if a file is clicked and not downloaded. (now there's a new way of looking at pay-per-view)

With the SmugMeasures ranking plan, if you make a sale, your rank will be dropped according to a mysterious formula comprised of todays weather in a random spot in the South Pacific near Palmyra, factored by the number of days, before or after your birthday, whichever is larger, and divided by the  minutes of high tide on Orkney since the last full Moon.

All people with no sales, will have their rank increased to fill the vacated positions. This way, no one person will ever get ahead of the rest of the pack in the search engines. This will also end all debate and questioning why your rank has dropped, right after a big sale, and re-writing all you keywords.

Wait, wait that allready is happening ;)

I don't know how they queue goes, but you can have one image uploaded today reviewed in a day, while images uploaded last week may stay in queue.

A couple of weeks wait is not rare.

Regards,
Adelaide

Could it be that the images that grab the reviewers eye first are the one's that they review first? Our you finding your better images getting review faster? It felt like that the last time I uploaded to them.

Well I deleted the link as I did not intend to offend anyone. Sorry. Again I was looking for comments on the artistic side of the video (not the political).

BTW - This is the OFF Topic section

I didn't see a need to deleted it you had every right to ask opinions and yes is the off topic area so anything should be OK (I think). I hope it was not me, I was just giving my opinion on something that is controversial.
Like I said before peace to all.

« on: March 16, 2008, 14:09 »
I think so. It is more than a month. And they review about two pictures a week from the batch of about seventy I uploaded a month ago. And in addition I have just found out they use a very strange price system - some of my images have 49 USD for RF!!! I had to change it all. I wondered why nothing had been sold so far, checked my portfolio - and this was the reason! Why should anybody bother to buy for 49 USD when the same picture is possible to buy at SS or IS or anywhere else for a fragment of this price.

But they would have to first buy the subscription at SS, which costs more than 49.00 am I right?

Very one sided, especially since the reason that our nation (US) has been in an armed conflict since the 1900's it's because it gets attacked first.
WWI innocent people, WWII Japan, Viet Nam against communism, First Gulf war Iraq invaded first a defenseless country, Twin Towers went down first( no images or metion of that) Afghan terrorist breeding ground and Taliban, Saddam lunatic. Once again very biased and please Hittler killed millions lest not compare Bush to that devil. Don't like it.

I think you need to refresh your memory: Vietnam has never attacked USA, and probably never will. During that war, USA killed and poisoned (chemical warfare: that's USA) tens of thousands of civilians in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. People in those countries are still stepping on land-mines and undetonated bombs from your heroic war against communism.

The result of that war: Vietnam and Laos became communist regimes anyway (and still are), while Cambodia ended up as one of the most brutal regimes the world has ever seen, killing millions of its own people, only to be saved by the "evil" Vietnamese communists a few years later.

Iraq, as bad as it was under Hussein, has been thrown into havoc by an American occupation that has lasted for five years. People are being killed and molested every day, in much larger numbers than Mr. Hussein could ever dream of. In addition, thousands of Iraqis (mostly Sunni Muslims) have been forced to leave their country to live in refugee camps in neighboring countries, refugee camps where young Iraqi women, some of them children, are forced into prostitution because that is the only way they can earn money to buy food for their families. No money from the rich uncle in Washington to help those kids.

Oh, and by the way: Saddam Hussein never attacked USA either (he did attack Iran though, with American support, and Kuwait without), and he didn't support terrorism. He simply didn't want to share with anybody.

I could go on, but the list is too long for a web-page this size.

Getting rid of lunatics may sound like a good idea, but it's an even better idea to take a long look at what the consequences will be for those civilians that are going to be "saved" as a result of the action. And as for Mr. Bush, he doesn't need to walk far to find a crazy politician. I'm sure there must be a mirror somewhere in the White House.

I guess by trying to write a short response to a very complicated issue I made myself sound naive, ignorant and stupid. Of course Vietnam never attacked the US, I'm very aware of that. I should have written a more grammatical correct answer and separated more of the historical events of the 20th century. But the facts are that WWI was not started by the US, WWII was not started by the US, the first Gulf war was not started by the US. The World Trade Center towers were not destroyed by the US eventhough some people would love for that to be the case.
And yes what we have in Iraq is the result of bad planning and poor understanding of history. I guess the last thing in the Bush administrations thoughts was the age long hatred that the Sunnis and the Shiites have towards each other. Saddam was the only thing keeping those fanatics from slaughtering each other like dogs. But "a lo hecho pecho" that is what is done is done and we have to finish what we started and not run away from the problem.
I enjoy reading the comments on this site and like adding to them. If my views seem strong sometimes you need to just walk in my shoes sometimes. I'm not trying to offend anyone especially here were we seem to enjoy the fellowship. This is not the SS forum where it seems everyone has a chip on their shoulders.
We will disagree of course on many things but I will hate for this to become another place were we have to tip toe around so as not to offend each other.
I still don't like the video and yes it is political. My opinion take it that way, you don't know who I'm so that is the way you should take it.
   Peace to all.

Mostphotos.com / Re: really starting to hate your "ratings" system
« on: February 28, 2008, 23:44 »
???What I don't understand is why once an image has reached a certain level it continues daily to alter it's number. It's almost like the stock market one day is worth 2.50 next day 2.25. Why can an image just stay at its level or increase only. It's almost a hobby type of environment not a real business atmosphere :P. I'm also getting frustrated by this rating system especially on a site with no sales for me yet. If I wanted a critique of my work I would go back to school or bring it to this site where we tend to understand each other it seems. I mean most members on this forum are very helpful to each other. ;D Of course I'm guilty of playing the numbers game and rating images, but it just takes too much of my time, another dud it seems going like LO for me.
