While some accounts get banned on istock, there are others which are directly using other authors elements in their 'work' with having istock 'judges' saying that are completely different images.

What said and even proven by some files I've seen there is quite evident that istock chooses who is to be banned and who isn't.

That sucks!
It would be good if you could give some inks of these obvious violations. It might give us a handle on what you are referring to.
I wonder if the OP is going to come back with his/her info. too? It's a wee bit pointless making these claims without showing us the evidence.

Sorry but I must keep my sources  covered due to possible law suit cases against some people on Istockphoto...  But if you don't believe to me it is your right!

[added] But, you may start comparing some istockphoto files with some weekly freebies from Shutterstock and it will come to your mind what is happening! Also, there are usual copy-cat jobs done by some with looking at first pages on all agencies... It is more than evident that while istock forces 'abusive inspiration', they accept such copy-cats when non-exclusives are sourced.

Yup... There's some strange things going on there... I had some number of sales and suddenly I have less than yesterday.

What I heard there are also $0 sales too?

Interesting development...

Since Istock has gotten so picky I have begun using the Getty generic release.  It is accepted by Istock and all the other sites also.

No... Dreamstime don't accept that MR in some cases!

Thanks for sharing Lisa. I got some other generic MR.
Albert Martin, do you know the reason why they don't support this MR?

If you and your model aren't from countries listed in that MR then you will get it rejected. You should add country of model there...

I don't know. If you look under the tab "Latest Submissions" you will see egg noodles, a spring landscape, a hand with money, a dark chocolate bar, a woman with a gift package, an apple with a tape measure around it, tomatoes and a "beautiful young model". Nothing unique, nothing that doesn't have stiff competition. I don't get it.

http://www.dreamstime.com/latest-photos_pg1

Yes that is the oddness I find with Dreamstime . Maybe they are trying to be Veers , not take anything you got on Shutterstock, Istock, Fotolia but I cannot see reviewer checking before rejecting "not what we looking", "poor compostion" or any subjective reason.
It is strange new policy. I think they again are looking for amateurs because they will jump exclusiveness with Dreamstime.

I doubt that they can be so stupid and kill their business on that way.
On the other hand, it is hard but necessary to get over with rejections on some sites with accepted on other sites. It is EDITORS who do that and that is subjective matter. Policy is something like frame - but size of it is in mind of any particular reviewer.

Hi! I am feeling that exclusives at DT have a lot of advantages.. I got nice approval, could be better but I understand some of them but others are not understandable.. They can be usual stuff but I bet if they were submitted by exclusives they would get in once SS, FT and IS accepted these files... this isn't the first time, how do you feel?

Just a simple question:

Do you ever search what is already present in library?
I see your images good, but there is ton of similar already. It is the point where you must accept that not always your images will be accepted due to not so original concepts.

Cheers!

Hi FD,

Sorry, I thought my reply was relevant to both threads. Rookie mistake I guess.

It appears I cant set up my portfolio links until I have at least 25 posts or something.

Any tips on this?

« on: July 24, 2010, 11:23 »
I've actually been using my 550D/T2i for work and making money with it.  So I have no idea what the heck Albert is talking about.  He just sounds like a bitter person unhappy with everything.

There are issues with the 550D, most certainly.  But you work around them and you get the job done.  I've used the 50mm 1.8 and created both video and stills that sell.  I've used the Sigma 70-300mm (which I'm sure Albert would say sucks) at F5 and even F12 and created images and video that sell.  Heck, I've used the kit lens with the IS and sold video to my local television stations for hundreds of dollars.

The only thing that sucks is the attitude that everything sucks.

Yup... It sucks that you can earn some cash with so cheap equipment doesn't it? I am glad for you. But, if you want to have the best results (perfect), then there is no limit in money you can spend to get there. That was my main point. And YES - 550D is excellent camera for money it costs as well that Tamron SPXRDiLD Aspherical (IF)... But, there can be found better and worse depending on your luck as well money you would have to spend...

Instead of the kit lens, get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 which is soooo much better. It's a very good lens for the price. Sharp and with very low chromatic aberrations.

Do you call this a good lens?

http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/482-tamron_1750_28vc_canon?start=1

I don't think so!

Resolution: sucks, Aberation: sucks, Bokeh: sucks!

I think this one is much better and cheaper (but resolution sucks):

http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/178-canon-ef-s-17-55mm-f28-usm-is-test-report--review?start=1

He is likely talking the non VC version. Even the VC version got quite positive review, I don't get where you take the sucks, sucks, sucks from.

Yeah, resolution: sucks:

The Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] may have one of the funniest names around but the performance of the lens is serious at least regarding resolution where it was capable to deliver some of the best MTF50 figures to date. On the downside the very high field curvature at wide angle settings can be a problem in some situations (flat or very deep scenes at large aperture settings). Vignetting and distortions are about average for a lens in this class. CAs could be a little better at 17mm but otherwise the issue is quite well controlled. Mechanically the lens isn't top notch but it compares very well here to other third party lenses. Thanks to the very moderate price tag the lens is highly attractive and definitely worth a deeper look when shopping for a quality standard zoom lens for your APS-C DSLR.

If you need center resolution peek as on that lens then OK... But, I don't understand how you will make equal that on border and even on extreme edges except you crop the image taken. There is why I said resolution sucks!

Nevertheless, I usually make choice from lenses which are mostly flat on all three areas (center, border and extreme) so I can use my sensors full size.  There is not good to have such peaks on center and so much down in resolution on the edges. You will understand what I am saying when you take the same images with let's say that sucky lens and canon 50mm F1.8 II with comparing them.

[added] To explain what is good enough for me is that lens performance @35mm F8... Almost all else sucks more or less.

Did you have an opinion of the image quality and functionality of the 7D vs. the 5D?

I didn't shoot very many stills with the 7D and 5D, but the image quality was pretty close.  The 5D has less moire when shooting bricks, fences, etc.. because of the full size sensor.  As for Video, they were nearly dead on identical in footage when using the same settings.  In fact, I was able to use the exact same keying settings when keying footage between the two.

A good friend of mine has a 7D as his backup and he personally prefers it for stills, although I didn't ask why... but I will ask him.  But 90% of the stills he submits to SS, IS and FL are from his 7D.

Also, I just got back from this morning's photo judging at our county fair (open division) and of the 8 images I submitted, four won ribbons and I got Best in Show for the Journalism category.  All 8 were shot with my T2i. I got 3 first place and 1 second place ribbon.   Plus $90 in prize money.  And all four are eligible for entry into the state fair where the winner of each category is $1000.  I decided to enter last minute and had all of my prints done at Walmart. :)  For the state fair I'll re-print them at a better facility.

Moire? Come on! Use soft focus lens and no moire! You should learn more about interchangeable lenses to perfect your ability to capture images (and footage) the way you want.

Canon Rebel T2i/550D Moire Tests

It is funny effect which can be avoided with using proper lens or recording with slight OOF!

BTW, too much sarcasm and egoistic behavior here... It sucks!

Yes, you do present that type of attitude and it does suck...

And no, you can't always compensate for the lack of using "NATIVE" ISOs with aperature, exposure or even filters.  If you knew anything about Canon cameras, you'd know that.  Using a native ISO gives you perfect exposure without having to mess with any other settings and is ideal.  Yes, you can get close with other tricks, but still not perfect and "perfection" is something we should all aspire too.

As I said in my previous post, I love my 550D.  It is by far the best "video" camera I have owned to date (and since it does stills, I have significantly increased my still portfolio on microstock sites with images that sell better than the illustrations I did previously).  But I have rented a 7D and borrowed a 5D for a few projects and using them side-by-side with the 550D they consistently recorded a better image.  Although, the difference was marginal.  Still, better is better and for the price difference I would totally expect it.

For anyone on a tight budget, I would highly recommend the 550D/T2i.  But if they can possibly afford a 7D, I would definitely go with that over the 550D for reasons stated previously.  As soon as the summer slump is over and sales pick back up, I'm going to get a 7D and give my 550D to my daughter who has spent the summer letting me teach her photography and videography.

Dude, I think you should master your 550D it can do the job perfectly enough so you can hardly tell which footage is from which camera.
Perfection you say? For what? Nothing is perfect and you can count on it! Any of your photos or footages can be done better as well as Lisa's or anyone else's... There is no perfect tool as well there is no perfect product.
So, what is photography? Perfection? I doubt it!

Nah... They rock enough with 5DMkII and 550D... They will not need any new model until Nikon catches up...

You think? But Canon currently has no decent offering at around the $1100 mark.
It's the Rebels around $800, then the 7D around $1700.
Surely they need to introduce an upgrade to the dismal 50D?

I don't feel that... I had choice to buy 5DMkII or 550D and gone for 550D. Not so much difference for the price especially in video ;-)

LOL!!!

What is funny here? I made my choice because I already have Nikon D3X - why would I throw my money away for something what can't ever match my prime camera body? I took that little light camera to have it for full HD video and I don't see why I should pay extra for 5DMkII which is heavier with that I needed to buy some extra lenses which are video oriented ;-)

[added]: I am experimenting with sterography, 3D imaging and 3D video... I will buy one more 550D soon too ;-)
One more notice: Canon lenses really sucks over Nikons! But, if you're lucky you can find some good pieces. For example old manual lenses with tag made in USSR will fit your canon with an cheap adapter and perform much better than expensive Canon branded.

I realize that you are baiting but couldn't resist a comment ....  All this from someone who paid $8,000 for a $5,000 camera.

Nah... I wouldn't pay so much for camera. I got it as present from my publisher.

^^ Excellent point, Warren :)

From reading a few of his posts I get the feeling that everything Albert Martin knows about photography and stock could fit on the head of a pin, with plenty of room left over for several dancing angels ;D

You're right - I don't know anything about photography or stock at all ;-)

[Added] Do you know how to calculate how much money you have lost until you became black diamond on IS? Is it about 80%? You should calculate by multiplying your earnings times 3 for example and you will see how in fact you are screwed for that 'black diamond' status.
Someone don't know nothing about photography and someone don't know nothing about maths... We are all bad students it seems...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Found at Alamy , sold at SS
« on: July 23, 2010, 08:16 »

Good question...

Wait for good sale for years at Alamy, maybe , or slowly making money on microstock?

^^ This is how I see it too.  I make way more money on all my images on micro than on Alamy.  Especially with the (already discussed to death) decreasing prices at Alamy.

That said, I know for a fact that sometimes people will search Alamy and buy on the micros.  I actually had an Alamy customer service agent e-mail me saying a customer wanted to know if a particular picture was also on "Photolia".  I told them that it was on "Fotolia".  Needless to say that's where it was bought.

Why Alamy customer service would be doing this kind of research to send customers AWAY to the micros I can't begin to understand.   :-X

It makes me sick to read this kind of statements.

Alamy has it's own buyers regarding RM images. They've put RF just to keep with ever rising microstock offers and to be able to make some of their customers satisfied. That are Media Editors and not graphic designers as on microstock.

Would you try to understand that putting microstock RF image on Alamy will make exactly that what you got? Why . someone will pay you 10 or 100 times more for something what YOU are selling on other places for cheap? If you use your brain and I believe that you know how to do that, then you will conclude that not every RF image is to be put on microstock. If you try to recognize your microstock work (usually those with chance to sell hundreds or thousands of times) against those of yours plain RF images (usually those with chance to sell few times) then you'd have idea where to put what kind of image(s)...

It's just that RF is not the same as RF microstock, but with current trend it tends to become the same and flat. So, as you already had chance to see it, Veer is heading in that direction with RF only and making two not much different categories of images by pricing.

It is NOT using BRAIN by authors is killing your sales on RF because the same images you have on Microstock... That were two different markets with two different kinds of images which is currently in process of taking over in microstock advance!

Interesting...  Video is darn close between all 3 models (5DM2, 7D and 550D).  But there are differences.  The 550D does not support all of the ISO modes that the 75/5D do and that has been a problem.  Even with stills. The 5D outclasses both the 7D and 5D in stills in my opinion.  Even though the mega-pixel size is smaller, that full size sensor makes a huge difference.  And the number 1 reason to pick a 7D or 5D over the 550D is weather proofing.  You cannot take the 550D out in the rain, heavy fog or even severely humid conditions.

I love my 550D and I'd highly recommend it to anyone on a budget, but if I had the money I'd have gotten the 7D.

Dude, What is the problem? That you must select ISO 100 or ISO 200 instead of ISO 135 or ISO 155 (just trying to better describe that difference) or dedicated video button and more extra buttons on camera body? That is not a problem at all if you know how to compensate through aperture and exposure as well if you don't need to have it blast fast in function. At least, in stock photography and video you don't need blast fast camera. No big deal at all if you know how. I don't think it is so huge difference at all regarding sensor size. It is different that if you need deeper DOF you should take crop sensor camera and if you need it shallower then full frame. Anyhow, any technical or your mistake is better visible on full frame camera images than on crop. Don't forget that full frame will need extra quality lenses which may cost real small fortune!
I do have experience in working with various Nikons and Canons... They all are very good tools. But, if you do stock then you don't really need to spend fortune for camera body with few extra buttons and a bit better ISO sensitivity or color deep. Anyway with Canon 550D you can do videos of quality which really rare big buck camcorders can even match. Not to mention double function in photography...

96
Just take a deep breath, count up to 10 or down from 10 to 1 and continue working... It's not something you should worry about. It is RF Micro...
