IMO, the site is not worth uploading too, as a matter of fact just requested my account closed and images deleted yesterday...It seems that the Panther Media Upload / Contributor Back End has fade away into oblivion...not enough sales to make the painful uploading process justified...  :(
Personally, I don't see a very bright future for PM as is...

Oh why so hostile and impatient? They announced the new system June 16th 2009 and in only 18 days it will be a full year of waiting for the promises. If you write to support, expect two to three weeks wait for an answer, sometimes not answering the question you asked. Confusing navigation with far too many options that don't lead to anything useful. No views, no sales... aren't we supposed to be happy about this?  ::)

[sarcastic mode off]

For at least a year, I had higher hopes and the site looked like it had potential. Now they have fallen into the rest of the pack with unfulfilled promises, buggy system issues, insanely slow and inconsistent reviews.

...but consistent sales. At least in my experience.

Diego

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia and Witholding Taxes!
« on: December 24, 2009, 04:25 »

With this in mind could you please send me by post NOT EMAIL a ORIGINAL LETTER ON FOTIOLIA'S LETTERHEAD, ADDRESSED TO ME AND STATING MY ACCOUNT NUMBER WITH FOTOLIO

As you well know I MUST COMPLY WITH THE IRS TAX REGULATIONS IN THIS MATTER.

Warren

Right, Warren.
This letter is a mandatory document when filing a W-7 and I really hope that fotolia will allow us more time to comply with it before withholding taxes on royalties....January 1 2010 is just ridiculous!
Why should I pay taxes to the US if a W-7 form couldn't have been submitted because a document from the withholding agent was missing??? ???

Merry Christmas to all you,
Diego

Hi all,

do some of you know if fotolia sent a signed letter to be submitted along with the W-7 when applying for an ITIN? Otherwise the application will be rejected for sure....

Thanks a lot,
Diego

Definitely worth every cent! I sent them my latest construction worker series and they did an excellent job with retouching and image enhancement. I used to outsorce keywording to them, but now postproduction will follow as well.
Just have to decide how to spend my spare time....producing more images or playing with my wii??   ;)

Cheers,
Diego

Software - General / Re: capture one pro 5
« on: October 30, 2009, 17:54 »
Thanks, D ;)

I was working on some files and turned on the focus mask. It shows only her hair as sharp in all the images... Its weird, becuase it doesn't make sense only the hair is sharp here.

really strange... not even small green spots on eyelashes? other images have the same problem?

« on: October 30, 2009, 10:31 »
Thanks, Diego! I read about it here first.. As far as i can see its a whole new purchase and not a free uprade, right?

The focus mask looks handy! Capture One crashes often for me with anywhere between 500-4000 RAWs loaded, i hope they've worked out some of the performance issues there..

You're welcome.  :) and yes....unfortunately it's not a free upgrade...
I had the same problem with 4.8.3, which used to crash very often. Hope this version works better. Still have to test it better but I'm sure that the focus mask will help also when shooting tethered as I use to do. If the green mask is on model's eyes, than it's ok!!

By the way, congrats for having been selected photographer of the week on istock last week. ;)

Software - General / capture one pro 5
« on: October 29, 2009, 20:23 »
hi all,
phase one just release capture one pro 5. The trial is available for download.
Even though it's night here in milan I couldn't resist to try it out....there are some nice improvement, such as RGB curves and the new "skin tone enhancer" which is definitely more precise than the old Advanced Color Editor when dealing with skins.
Nice to see a tool like focus mask which speeds up a bit the selection process.

cheers,
diego

I never signed with them but I found many of my images on this site  ???
2 are on the homepage.

Seems like a third party reseller, but prices for single image are not micro oriented.
I'm going to send them an email to get some info.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Anyone using medium format?
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:35 »
Mamiya just released 2 new digital medium format camera lines (4 cameras) and it got me drooling again over medium format.   So far the costs have been pretty prohibitive, especially considering what a Canon 5D mark II can do.  But the big sensor of a medium format sure looks tempting.  Mamiya hasn't released their pricing yet but this is what they say
Quote
Mamiya 28 and 22 Megapixel Series
The new Mamiya DM28 and DM22 each offer an unmatched value for the new professional photographer. Featuring 16-bit/ channel image quality and industry-leading shooting speeds, they will be priced at extremely attractive points.

Utilizing a range of 15 existing Mamiya 645AF focal plane lenses, the Mamiya DM22 and DM28 offer many of the features found on their higher-end siblings. They also include Raw file processing with new versions of either Leaf Capture, or Capture One software by Phase One, allowing photographers their choice of workflow from the industry leaders.

[Press release]

There is also the option of buying a good used older medium format camera (for film) and buying a digital back.

Anyhow, anyone using medium format here?  I know Yuri does (or at least did).

Hi Leaf,

I bought a 645AF and p45+ back in mid July and took around 100 photos for stock since then. There was a huge discount on Phase One here in Italy so I couldn't miss that chance....
Many pros but some cons (e.g. flash sync, more noise at high ISO compared with 5d markII).
I'm a bit in a hurry now, but feel free to PM for more info

Best,
Diego

"I will say that it takes into account historical up days, down days, holidays, weekend stats, site specific stats and more."

Are we to assume that you are basing these extrapolations on your own historical data?  Just curious...  Seems like there's all kind of differences between your data and other people's data if that is true...

I compared Yuri's projections with iSyndica's analytics and the numbers are pretty close. I think this tool it's good to calculate monthly revenues on istock and SS which are currently missing on iSyndica.
Thanks Yuri for this nice tool.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Contributors' Collective
« on: May 06, 2009, 03:02 »
Well I've been pondering this now for the last night / day and a bit and this is what I am thinking, some of this may be a bit of a rehash of others ideas and or patch of job so credit for others is due where it is due.

A co-op is most definitely the way to go but how to do it? The tech requirements, logistics, legal and what not are just to large an barrier for a fresh out of the darkroom co-op to work around. The idea behind the porn structure is good but I can us getting into trouble with conflicting contracts and payment structures (processing and pricing).

As far as creating our own self sustaining site site we get into issues managing the site, lawyers, accountants, marketers, image reviewers (yes we need reviewers), someone to hire all these people. If we do these jobs ourselves there will be conflicts and not nice ones either amongest the members not to mention the conflicts of interest with running a site will submitting to other agencies.

I'm thinking that our best bet to make this co-op work will be to partner with an existing site. I know people have their reservations about the new sites and low earners but quite frankly what would we expect from our own start up. If one of the new / low earners were to approach us with a new business plan were we as contributors are offered a "new" contract were by we take a smaller percentage of the sale price of each image for x number of dollars in exchange for a vote in the operation of the site (similar to a vote on the board of directors), one vote per contributor. This way the site becomes legally responsible to seek the majority vote of its contributors before making changes to the site or agreements, no majority no change. Also once the x number of dollars has been reached by the contributor their percentage of each sale would rise to rate y, therefore providing the site with a financial boost to assist with the re-branding (renaming) and marketing the site as a "Fair Trade" stock site.

In order for such a change in a contributors agreement would most certainly require the submission of proof of identification as the contributors would end up becoming shareholders of the site (one share per contributor).

The one contributor one vote would help avoid any one contributor from corning the voting process on changes although the site would have to disclose the number of votes outstanding and abide by a 50 percent plus one rule for votes cast on changes.

By using an existing site we would have the infrastructure in place and a means to review our images (in a clear well stated manner, rules and guide lines) to ensure that we do not harm our own quality.

No mandatory exclusivity as it would limit the number of images that we can get on-line in a relatively reasonable time frame.

These are just few thoughts that I've had on the subjectand how it maybe able to work, and yes these thoughts still need work themselves. Now is there a site admin out there that may interested in such an idea?

Enjoy and rip away!

Absolutely agree with you. That's the simplest way to see some bucks in a relatively short term and have voice on decisions (which I think it's one of the things we need the most and lead some of us starting this thread, right?).
Exclusivity is an essential part to make a low earner site standing out of the crowd....otherwise there's no added value to it. Of course it should be on a per image basis and IMO they should be priced higher.
best,
diego

General Midstock / Re: Rodeo searches new talented artists
« on: January 24, 2009, 10:55 »
I joined Rodeo at the end of December (sent them a dvd with 1000+ photos) and it took a couple of weeks for my portfolio to go online. They have a friendly approach with photographers and I had my 1st hi-res sale right after the photos went online, so it looks promising.  :)
Juha informed me about this first sale, but then reports come monthly by email. I'll keep you updated as soon as I'll get the first one.

If some of you may want to refer to me in your application form, here is the link it....http://www.rodeostudio.fi/photographers/registration/contract.htm (thank you in advance.... :D)

Don't give up, Fljac.
Month after month my sales are increasing there. In December I had 44 sales (about 900 photos online).

« on: November 26, 2008, 14:37 »
I just joined and tried to upload my id and 3 initial samples, it timed out after 20 minutes.
Any suggestions?  Never had problems like that before, even with large images at Alamy.
Is there a glitch?

I experienced the same problem, even if the test files were smaller than 2MB each. I tried with both firefox and safari that time.
Then, I reduced their size further so that these files all together were less than 2MB and it worked.

Hope it works for you as well.
Best,
Diego

Did they change?
Last time i checked they have been exclusive and paid 15% commission considering most of their sales are through partnersites so the actual photographershare will be even far less then the ridiculous 15% !

yes, they changed recently and now accept images for non-exclusive representation as well.

Acceptance criteria were extremely high last year....If I remember right, it was stated on their website that they used to accept only 10% of photos they received. Probably they realized that their portfolio was not growing enough and they changed their mind....

But Litifeta is right! we have to see if they produce consistent sales.

Best,
diego
