This is my lowest sale to date. I've seen the $1.50 threads but thought I'd just share this anyway. I guess the 90 minutes it took to shoot this clip and the hour to process it is only worth $3.36. Keep up the great work shutterstock.

I just "liked" your comment… not because I actually, ya'know, "liked" it but because it reinforced my own personal decision, made 2 weeks ago, to pull my clips out of SS (and, with regrets, Adobe too) and go exclusive with P5.

In the long run, that may have been a mistake on my part, but right now it feels very good.

Thanks for sharing your experience, which left me with a sad, sour taste in my mouth. Why bother?

Thanks, man. It sucks to see anyones hard word undervalued like this. I'm going to follow suit and start removing any clip that sells for a pittance.

SS says 404 "Well, this is unexpected..."

but with this pricing this (removing asset) had to be expected from contributors side...

Yes I did remove it. I should have left it up for a bit after posting this.

How many clips is your port? I have been contemplating removing from SS as well and the few I have on IS.

About 650-700 clips, give or take a couple dozen from one site to another.

Do you get many sales on Pond 5, to make it worth it? I'm not exclusive on Pond 5 but I've most clips on there (currently 299) and 244 on Shutterstock but (for me) make many more sales on SS than on P5. I'm curious about where people who are removing their video port from SS are selling.

Do you get many sales on Pond 5, to make it worth it? I'm not exclusive on Pond 5 but I've most clips on there (currently 299) and 244 on Shutterstock but (for me) make many more sales on SS than on P5. I'm curious about where people who are removing their video port from SS are selling.

Well, I've only been "video exclusive" with P5 since May 1, so no track record with that status yet.

Before making that switch, however, I was steadily selling more clips through P5 than through Adobe (where my last video sale took place late in 2018) and SS (which to the best of my memory had never sold a single clip for me).

As the old saying goes, Your Miles May Vary (YMMV).

Well, $3.36 is a laughable commission of course, but I'm sure the clip will sell more than once (and for higher commissions too), so I'm sure you'll make a profit in the long run for your hard work.

The collapse in pricing just means everyone stops making high quality and time consuming content. The return on revenue just doesn't justify the cost. Kind of unfortunate there isn't a easy way for the stock agencies to use software to understand which contents should be priced higher due to the level of efforts required.

If you search the clip ID lead (if I am not wrong) to a timelapse made with a motorized slider.
100 clips sales to make the cost of the equipment and after that sales will be compensation
for the OP's time and efforts without counting camera gear, cost for moving, time spend.
It is a business. We buy tools to get work done better and for good prices.

No excuses. And taking no prisoners, deletion of clip and listing elsewhere seems one way.

Edit: I never heard of a plumper buying a $300 pneumatic drill and charging $3 for cement drilling and waiting to benefit in the long run...

Agree that this race to the bottom in pricing inevitably kills motivation for us to spend time (and especially money) to create good content. The agencies are incredibly short-sighted - they'll start seeing the quality of submissions decrease to nothing but easy, cheap content, and over time the really good shots they already have will become dated. Can't see this ultimately being a win for anyone.

I'm watching my sale prices on Shutterstock. So far I have enough big money sales to average out the $1-$3 sales. But when/if it becomes mostly cheap sales, I'll dump SS and stick with just Pond5 and Adobe.

Maybe not $3 but multiple drilling jobs should pay back the cost of the pneumatic drill. Same case with video.
He's unlucky this was a low commission but fortunately, the standard commissions of $20+ for video still exist. For now.

It has sold elsewhere for the normal rate. It's laughable that SS sells a clip that's not even a year old for peanuts. I'd rather make 0 than $3 for my hard work.

What WE as contributors have to remember here is yes you got a measley $3.36 for a clip, SS probably on the same day sold hundreds of OUR clips, they also got at least $3.36 per clip and are laughing all the way to the bank, getting upwards of $500 from those clips for doing nothing other than hosting them.
WE are a gigantic cash cow for these corporations and they love us, The GIG economy has nothing on this mob, talk about robber Barons and Pirates.
And as afar as OUR value they don't care because WE have GIVEN them millions of clips and images to do with as they LIKE, they set the RULES not US.
To add insult to injury there search engines are set to return WHAT they want the end user to see, adding even more control over OUR creations.
