December so far seems to be a BAD sign for 2017.

December so far seems to be a BAD sign for 2017.

most reports seem to show DEC is always a bad month compared the rest of the year - the last 2 weeks being particularly slow;  so hardly any predictive value for the coming year (yet another argument for using 3-6 month averages for comparisons)

We have gone from people predicting a bad month after  bad sales a couple of days in to predicting a bad year a week before it starts.  :-[.

WME, 60% down from December 2015, probably due to the search change

Might be interesting to know!  This factory with a few photographers with over 100.000 files at Shutterstock. Spoke to one of them this morning. Yesterday they had 2 downloads and today at 12 noon still nothing. I cant even put in writing what they said about SS.

So people we are not alone far from it.

I actually had 2 dl-s at SS. Both sub, I was expecting 0 days, since it's Saturday and also New Year's eve.  Anyway, this December was my secong best month with number of downloads and best month with number of ODDs.

Dec 2016 is on track to be my worst month at SS since 2009 when I had about 1/3 of the images. I suspect among all the other usual reasons the fact that I have been busy and not uploading much for the second half of the year hasn't helped at all. I also have at least one 0 day this month, which didn't happen for about 5 years, but has a few times this year.

An even more shocking statistic is that I have to go back to my 2nd month with SS to have a lower number of downloads - with 1.2% of the images.

December continues to surprise. Just when I thought it would fall below FT, SS continues to stubbornly perform better.

What can I say, 2016 has been very good to me. I expect 2017 to be another great year and handily outperform 2016. I wish a Happy New Year to everyone.

I know we're on about SS (which ended up my third best month of the year after September and November), but my first 4K sale at VideoBlocks in the dying days of December helped a bit!

December was dire for me too. Pathetic. Last December was also bad, but I had roughly twice as many downloads then.
I can think of 3 possible explanations:

1. Major search engine change, possibly punishing contributors who get $0.38 / DL.
2. Exodus of relatively many large clients to competition.
3. Errors in sales reporting. If my balance can increase incorrectly tenfold out of the blue and other glitches happen all over the place, I would not exclude this possibility at this moment.

If you guys had a good December, what is your royalty per download? If you had a bad month what is yours?
Mine is $0,38 and December sucked big time.

Average royalty per download of $22.55 but they're all video.

I didn't mean average royalty, but the royalty rate based on lifetime earnings. SS earns more when files from lower-tier contributors get downloaded, so theoretically there might be some motivation to "tweak" the search engine accordingly.

After carefully examining my December sales along with those of the last 10 years and extrapolating those numbers against prevailing trends in the Microstock industry, combined with extensive research in various forums, I have determined that I have no idea what sales will be like tomorrow, much less next year.

LDV81,  0.38 contributors are getting punished all the time and in every search change. Less money in royalty payouts for the company. Thanks to the Internet this "con" is possible.
Some legal people are actually debating if this is 100% legit or not since its a purposely orchestrated way of tampering with peoples earnings. Even in the private sector you have to follow certain praxis or code of ethics.

I cant remember if it was Pickerel or somebody else the bapla or something who was going to bring this up during 2017.

Anyway this is one of the reasons why some big members are getting fed up and trying their luck with the macro/ traditional agencies.

Makes me feel somewhat better with less than 700 files but I have never had 2 consecutive days of zero sales until now (30th and 31st Dec). Money OK for the month thanks to more than $100+ in SODs but down from Dec 2015 by 16% and downloads almost halved! Fails to inspire for 2017.

Pretty much the same here. Better then 2015, very close behind 2014. Dec. is not a good month in general.

Funny how that works. Worst month 2016 was March. Best month 2015 was March.

Here's to 2017.

Pretty big alligantion do you have anything to proof that contributors are being punished, that it's a con or there is tampering with earnings.

Who are legal people debating if this is legit. Do they have some proof that your claims are real? Can you show us the evidence?

Who's Pieckerel or BAPLA going to bring this up with? But mostly how do we know this is true and real? I don't see any change in my earnings after making 38c level?
