Sometimes I think they look at your $, not at the number of dlds. My revenue per dld is 0.75$ at SS, so I think it's over the average. My concern is about no. of dlds that is not growing with the port, not for $, cause as I said, the 0.25 dlds are 30% of my earnings by now. When I have an EL(it happened twice),  I know will see 4-5 days without any dlds. Seems like someone says: "Now it's enough for you. You'll have to wait for a while"

Yup those are my two concerns with SS, the lack of sales on most popular (I'm talking months in first place) and sales not keeping up with growth of port although the quality and commercial value is improving.
It feels like we're capped at a certain amount of income or daily dl's.
And what is the reason behind the lack of EL's lately? no one knows.
But again, we can only speculate and will (probably) never know what truly goes on behind the scene.

Credit to SS though my income is still inclining monthly and it is still my best earner. Without them I would have quit this business a long time ago.

Good luck tavi

Wim, thanks for the optimistic advice. I will check my keywords as there might be a part of the problem. But I don't know what you mean by red isn't there, cause it is. It is on the description and the image shows in the search by word "red". Now I'll add that in the Keywords too and see what happens. Thanks again.

Always add them to your keywords, not only title and description, especially if you provide other agencies besides SS.

Good luck!

Bauman, I can see from your numbers that after an EL your sales have also diminished. And for two months. For me is like for a week. Then everything to normal- average of one a day. 20 pictures or 200, doesn't matter - one a day  :D

No, I don't think it's related to EL.

In August my sales aren't decreased after EL sale (i've got it early days of Aug). My SS downloads expectation for August is 120-125, my BMD.

I got into SS in October of 2011, second attempt.
I currently have a protfolio of 94 images and averaging around 125 to 150 downloads per month.
As of today day 113 for August. My images are mainly vectors SS rejected most of my background images.

I believe that search results are capped at a few images for per artist in the first few pages- so buyers aren't presented with too much of the same.

So if you are shooting the same subject matter increasing your portfolio size will have a decreasing impact on sales as you reach that max limited of images that get decent exposure for any one search.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. I used to have over 80% of the first 100 images in a specific search out of about 900 results sorted by Popular. Even now I have 42 images in the top 100 out of over 2000 results. I believe every image earns it's place on sales (for the keywords used) irrespective of who the contributor is, how large their portfolio or what colour their underwear is on any given day.

Thanks to all for the replies. July was a BME, so it,s not that bad, then I hope september will bring more dlds. After all, I sure need some more commercial images.

My number of downloads a month is generally equal to the number of images in my port. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but usually very close. It's been that way since I started on Shutterstock and continues even this month, which is slower than last month. For example, this month I've had 904 sales so far with a port of 1,121 images in my port. So, I'm pretty close to on track, and I will probably pass 1,100 sales by the end of the month.

I'm sorry about that ;). But a lot of people here have different usernames than at the stock sites.

Anyways,
@Rob Hainer: Very nice, expressive and emotional people photos!!!

Thanks.

It's only a small portion of my port that gets regular downloads. I have lots of failures, too!

I am with SS for seven weeks now - and I am happy with the start.

438 images online, 372 downloads so far, even my first enhanced one last week.

SS is definitely THE agency who keeps me motivated to stick with microstock for a while longer.

Cheers,

Rob

Our port is 12033 images and we do between 6000 and 7000 sales a month on SS.
Best performing agency (and BME this August).
Second one is FT.
