I am suddenly getting tons of spam emails and in between those emails I saw that my Shutterstock payout address has been changed.

I do not share my passwords with anyone.
The only third party Shutterstock login I used is Stock Submitter. Is this the culprit?

Is my email account also hacked?

Did you have the same password in 123rf? They have been hacked.

I dont even know you, why would there be personal hatred? Shutterstocks been screwing contributors for awhile, they dont bother to get rid of thieves, they had a hole in their code awhile back allowing thieves to download high rez images. They cut royalties, and on Jan. 1, everybodys back at Level 1. If you continue to do business with them, I think you can expect more problems. Have you checked with Stock Submitter? Look at previous threads re: shutterstock, my comment is tame compared to what others say about Shutterstock.

Unfortunately, yes  :(

I am being bombarded with spam emails. Does this also comprises the email account?

Stuck on what should I do next.

This has happened before, I don't presume to know why or how someone got your password so I won't go off, blaming and hating.

But here's what's going on. Someone changed your payout account and then is hitting you with spam, in hopes that you won't notice that you payout has been changed. They are trying to steal your next payment. Change your password, fix your payment address.

A bit of advice that people keep repeating here and other forums, which gets neglected until, "Oh crap, someone hacked my account." Then blame the agency, which is really the cause, because you aren't practicing careful protection on your own.

Never use the same password on two sites, that have anything to do with money!

Also it's easy enough for someone who knows your email password, to ask for a lost password reset and bingo, they just stole your SS account password. Meaning, you need to change your email password too.  :) Good luck, sorry to hear of the problem. Good that you were smart enough to catch it, before the start of the month.

Yes, the OP used his pw in multiple places. But yes, it was a hack at 123rf that likely caused the problem. In other words, an agencys fault.

That's a affirmative "YUP!" on a password breach.

Must use different password on each place you are a member of.
If you have trouble remembering passwords, no problem. Just write them down in your own personal paper pad. Yes on paper and or save a set of your passwords on a thumb drive if you like too. I know its a pain to you but its necessary not to be "lazy" in turns of passwords.  Because hackers are hard at work wasting time hacking into weak accounts. Its easy for them to just make a living being a parasite, rather then being an honest person that has integrity and making their own legitimate money.

Also make sure you make passwords with not just letters and numbers but symbols too. Also use 2 factor authentication if provided for extra security.

Until we have something better, we have to do this "pain in the a$$" stuff to protect our stuff.

A little something extra.
I use FireFox monitor to monitor my emails for breaches But I'm sure there are many other aps out there that also do this.

I like to cover a little extra bases with this.  ;)

Firefox monitor really helped... Thanks a lot.

It is confirm that it was 123rf data breach.

Lesson learnt, now changing everything.

This happens to people on a monthly basis on SS but as far as i can tell not other stock sites. (Search their forum for example).

Usually it happens right near the end of the month though, just before payout dates.  It always seems to follow the format of the email address getting huge amounts of spam to try to hide the payout address changed email being spotted.

Are you using the same password (or variants of) across multiple sites or for the email?
How long have you had the shutterstock password?

Nobody has ever got to the bottom of *HOW* it happens but people usually claim their SS password is unique and lots arent using third party submitters.  Shutterstock themselves claim theres no breach their end but who knows if thats true or not (they may not even be aware).

I dont think your email is breached - otherwise there'd be no need for the spam because they could just log in and delete the payout change email.  Thats assuming you use a different password for the email than the stock site?

Its one of stocks monthly mysteries - how some people get their SS payout redirected at the appropriate time.....  Of course, if they introduced 2 factor for account changes it would stop this.

Yeah right as always. Denial is a better plan when someone can't quote what you wrote.  ;)

I'm kind of happy this came up as it's a reminder for me to go check and change passwords on money sites.

Or why these crooks that are so smart to hack in and change things, don't understand payout dates. Artist was hacked on the 20th  :o

Assume you are a criminal and you want to rob someone. Do you go to the candy store, 123RF or Crestock and search for accounts to hijack, or do you go to the biggest earning site with the most payouts? Think about that? Why do criminals try rob places with lots of cash and not places that have hardly anything in the cash register drawer? A bank or a Dollar store? Hmm, which one has more money?

SS is a target, an attraction, of course there will be more attempts to steal accounts there.

Nobody has ever got to the bottom of *HOW* it happens but people usually claim their SS password is unique and lots arent using third party submitters.  Shutterstock themselves claim theres no breach their end but who knows if thats true or not (they may not even be aware).

Are you using selective memory? SS has on the forums answered a number of times, they were aware of no hack. I know you're on the forum and you were back then. Every day. Artist said he used the same password on more than one site and he uses stock submitter.

Didn't you used to work support? Well I did, and the first thing I learned when people had a problem with software or a computer was, they would deny that they changed anything, when the truth was, they had. "Oh no I didn't do anything, it just stopped working." Then I'd find out, he added a second DVD drive the day before.  ::) Or someone would install an update or some conflicting software, and I could see that date, but they would say, nope I did nothing, it just stopped working.

So forgive me if someone (not anyone here or now or the OP) says, oh no I never used the same password, because I don't believe them.

It's easy to go with the public opinion, with no basis in fact, and blame SS for lying, being dogs or for having been hacked, but they won't admit it. Easy to pick on the agency that people hate, without any evidence that they are actually the cause. Just things like, it doesn't happen on other sites. Really? It doesn't?

What other agency forums do you read daily?

When you checked your actual SS account, was your payout email changed? If it was, then you have a problem, if it was not, then this is just a phishing email.

Basically, spammers send an email that "looks" like its from SS, with a big "CLICK THIS BUTTON" to reset your password. So you do, and now they have your new password.

So it depends. Has it been changed or did you just get an email saying that it has?

You should look at the billing address in 123rf, maybe it's not yours? Spam? That is, someone paid for the mailing list. If you had the email compromised, you can lose even the thought in 10 minutes. Since they will change and confirm the accesses, forgetting the password to each stored mail.

With the mail, they change your accesses in 10 minutes from where they know that you are registered. I don't think your email is compromised, they would have deleted the SS payment address change email.

In addition, they would have confirmed with SS, new email, new, password, and you would not have been able to recover the SS account.

They would have changed the password of the mail, and neither could it enter their mail. Your email is not broken.

The issue comes from the same key, the normal thing to attack is to use that key, password, in PayPal, all the microstock agencies that locate your images. Facebook, mail that they find, related to their nickname. Etc.

Inside the bad, everything points to the 123rf key busted. It is better that your PC is not compromised. It would be more serious.

Its one of stocks monthly mysteries - how some people get their SS payout redirected at the appropriate time.....

Except usually they do it at the end of the month or just after depending on day of the week.  This one is unusual because its so early.

Which means nothing.  Most people aren't aware of a hack (or claim they aren't) until something MAKES them aware (such as 123RF finally going public this month from March).
They maybe unaware, maybe lying or maybe no hack.  But something is causing this to happen every single month going back years using exactly the same MO every time.

That isnt the case by the majority of people this happens to.

Because generally with IT breaches most people who are breached don't find out until much later than the actual incident.  Its far more common than finding out immediately.
They also have woeful IT security infrastructure and systems buyer security side.

Ultimately this has happened pretty much every month going back several years all using the same procedure - mass spam to hide a payout change.  Every single side says its not their end causing it and they cant all be correct.

Right, the same MO. Right they should do this at the end of the month, but many don't. They can't be too smart? Or maybe they think it's like some other sites where they can request a payout?

Right 123 didn't even mention this to anyone until November, when it happened in March! Wow, that's negligence and ignorant. Why do people stay with them and then spend all day criticizing SS at every possible moment for any small flaw? 123RF has always had terrible management and software. Believe me, 123 knew and so did the places that follow and report data theft.

So you know that same password isn't the case for the majority of the people, because? How do you have that data? OR because you believe someone who denies they were foolish, and lazy and used the same passwords everywhere? Honest, ask anyone who has worked support. Almost no one admits that the cause of the problem is something they did. It's always the computer or the software.  :)

"They also have woeful IT security infrastructure and systems buyer security side." Really, can you document some of that for us? Or is that just a factoid from the forums. I'm trying to point out that forum gossip and you know how biased people are against SS, doesn't make anything into factual truth. People repeating a lie, misconception or rumor, doesn't make it the truth.

Old example, but years ago there was a survey and over 54% of the people believed Elvis was still alive. But no matter what, he was still dead.  ;)

Also another thanks, I didn't try it, and I should. I was busy making longer more difficult passwords everywhere, yesterday.  8) This attempt at stealing an account reminded me it was that time of year again, and I don't mean Thanksgiving and Christmas. Time to change passwords, just in case.

Condescending snarky comments are usually meant to make you feel inferior by someone who is defensive because of psychological problems with their own self image.
