Leo, I came off network in order to do some dusting and cleaning to the site and somehow - with the new updates - I lost my network connections

Is that normal?

Yes, if you "switch off" the network all your outgoing links disappear

Just click on the plus sign and type in the site address that you want to link with, then let it find the symbiocard - I find that the easiest way

looks very nice dash but somehow a little slow in terms of searches and opening pictures, actually doing anything...

have you looked at your website on an iPad?

3 pictures per row, if you shrink it a little 4 will show up making it perfect

I also found it very very slow (and my internet connection is very fast...)

Are we coming up against some limits in the speed of Wordpress to handle really big sites? Or is the hosting slowing it down?

I was wondering the same. that site is really slow, slower then mine, but its the biggest symbio site to date. I hope its not because of the amount of images that its slowing down. I mean, every image is a page in WP. So thats over 11000 pages. Are WP sites built to manage so many pages?

This was a good opportunity to see how a HUGE port does in our suggested set-up.

To see how FAST search results are generated from a port containing this many images, go straight to the XML doc:

The slowness is the network connections which are really just slow on the FIRST load, after which ATJ's caching system has set up that particular search, and thereafter the page loads quite fast.

The only curveball his HUGE site sends to us is the writing of the image collection files, which AJT uses to populate his search engine. But that is ok, because the API still gives you an efficient way of handling HUGE collections like this.

I'm glad this portfolio came along. It gave us the opportunity to see how the bigger portfolios will perform.

even with this site added to the global db, my search at http://symbiostock.cascoly.com hasn't varied much. I plan on tracking this more closely and also using the keyword xml in some cases rather than the image xml
