Hi guys, just wondering, is everything stable now? Are all bugs fixed?

I am ready to take the plunge. I am at 2.5.5. at the moment, and I want to get the latest free version and the latest pro plugin. How do I best approach my upgrade? What are the latest version numbers?

And then, I do need support from Leo about my keywords, I will have to bother you once more  ;)  I will PM you about that, if you dont mind.

I'm getting out.
Too expensive, too buggy, too time consuming.
Only the developers earn currently on this project.
And wait I did not have time, I'm no longer the youngest.
A lot of luck and success for you, people!

Leo made the plugin live, but it wasn't working before that either. Yes you can make a test purchase. Pick one, I will refund your money back. There was an update to 2.6.4 this morning. I applied that, too, and it still doesnt work. Leo said he fixed that on jsnover's site, but mine remains useless.  :(

edit: let me go toggle the stuff on and off, just in case that does anything. edit: done, test away

To be honest, setting up 2.5.5 will probably be a few hours, including tweaking. I had little issues with setting up the site, and I have been very happy with Symbiostock. I do realise every new release can have some issues, so I choose to update when things are ironed out.

I dont think there is a better, quicker, cheaper option out there at the moment. And if you know one, I would like you to name it.

And the support from the community is unchallenged.

Pretty stable here at the moment but every hosting environment is different and there is no way to tell if it's going to be stable for everyone..

A while back everyone's sites were stable and mine was having a lot of issues..

Luckily Leo was able to fix godaddy related bugs.. and as you mentioned growing community is the biggest plus..

I don't get that. I have the same host I have had since day one. All the previous versions I didn't have the problem. I'm on Bluehost, the recommended hosting site. I never had this issue from the beginning, and now I have it. Nothing on my end has changed. To me it doesn't make sense.

Got the refund, thanks, sorry its not working. I wish I could help, but I cant.

I will wait for some people to wake up and if they can point me to the best way to upgrade the free and pro version, I will dive in.

I dont have a test site set up, and at this point thats too much work, so I will just upgrade on the live site.

Thanks, any advice on how to proceed to get from free 2.5.5 to 2.6.4 and 1.1.7

I would simply do the theme update inside WP admin area. Then activate a standard WP theme (I usually use Twenty Eleven), then re-activate the current (2.6.4) Symbiostock theme and then activate your child theme.

When you're done with the theme, purchase the plugin and activate it.

Now I'm on 2.6.4 BTW. Also without any issues.

Ok, I purchased the plugin but there is no way to see which versions I bought. The file name really needs to indicate what I bought, I have no clue now.

My guess would be that's the most current version. If not, simply wait for the update, run it, deactivate the newly installed plugin, then re-activate it.

Just install the plugin ... if it is not the most recent version you will be informed like for any other plugin  ... and can update with one click within seconds

If you know how to get to it, the version number is in styles.css.

Ok, no big issues, its all working and updated. All custom changes applied. Looks good. Image processor is working. I didnt do a test purchase yet.

Only two problems, the EL I created doesnt show up and the symbiostock card of my own site is blank and the text field for the URL is locked.

Not too bad.

Loving the new keyword search. Works fine. Now I need to fix my keyword spam with the help of Leo.

So far so good.

Ok, I need to use the batch editor to assign the licence. Thats working fine too. Great stuff

Just one problem, once the license is selected, it cant be deselected, and the price is not visible when its not selected, that needs to be changed. the price needs to be visible at all times. Also the license need to be able to be deselected again

For a couple of months, I've gotten this message when trying to upload:  "You browser doesn't have Flash, Silverlight, Gears, BrowserPlus or HTML5 support."  Somebody suggested deactivating plugins until the issue was resolved.  I tried it with no success.  I've just been uploading to the uploads folder, but now that has disappeared.  The "pluload" part of "/home1/dannyhoo/public_html/hookstockimages/wp-content/plupload/uploads/" is gone.  I'm not able to upload anymore.  Any ideas?

Update to latest version then turn the theme off then on again. That action runs the installer which should update your folder.

To be honest, that was really effortless and smooth. I am almost sure it is because I have no heavy customisation done. Its just Symbiostock and Go, for me.

Thanks Leo, just replied to you email and you should have a pending PM from me.  ;)

Good deal.

There's a few small issues left but its like this:

Complicated System integrated as upgrade to complicated system. Then that marriage must work within another complicated system (wordpress) ... the funny thing is when you think of what could have gone wrong, things have been quite well!

I'll be on this full time until all the stragglers and freak-issues are done (which are not many).

BTW - in the world I grew up in when you sell something you support it. Paid product = better * well be supported. Which I try to do. I did that with the base (free) theme too.

Here's something worth mentioning publicly since I've been patient enough:

http://support.dev7studios.com/discussions/wp-updates/IT-312158

I never get responses from this service I'm using to update wordpress. 6 months of patience actually. This is my third time knocking on the door. A similar issue happened with a $50 theme I had purchased. Apparently times have changed and I never knew it. I'm working too hard :D

Leo, we get first hand support from the founder and creator of Symbiostock, I couldnt wish for anything more.

Cheers. The new search rocks my socks off by the way. I am loving it. That was my main goal, and the licenses are way cool. Money well spent. I will do some promoting over at Alamy now there is an RM license.

Glad you like! And the final few things are on the way.

BTW - does anyone else get annoyed by some slight visual imbalance in the theme's preview pic? The green network art? Please let me know. I feel like its slightly low.

Ron, I noticed you have EL's set up.. you also have to add standard license because otherwise there is no way to uncheck the EL radio button once it's selected by the customer..

Let's say they are just clicking on EL button for the fun of it, and want to return to standard license.. they can't do it..

Ok, makes sense. Got it. I will do that now. I only had 2 ELs set up to test the waters. So I need to set the SL at 0 and then the EL at whatever? THat makes sense right?

Maybe the buttons need to be configured that the buyer can toggle instead of being stuck with a choice.

I just wanted to say that the current versions of Symbiostock and the premium plugin are really great.
And with the features the premium plugin provides, I have no doubt that it will pay for itself in no time. Collections, the advanced search, licenses, batch editing - all fantastic and very useful tools making the Symbiostock website better for both, the owner and the potential buyer.
And BTW, for people who think about joining the Symbiostock network, I would really suggest to purchase the premium plugin from the beginning (maybe after testing the general Symbiostock features with a few images). It really makes things easier and you can set up your own system (with different licenses and collections) from the start. It'll be more work when you do it much later.

Many thanks to Leo for a fantastic job done.

Yeah, works like a charm. Batch editor works good to. Got the licenses sorted now. Just need to write some instructions for the buyers how to toggle. Etc.

Just, how can I select all images in the batch editor at once? Can I get all my images to show up in one go?

Is it required - or even, does it have any effect - to activate the updates to the basic Symbiostock theme after updating to a new version? I'm using Clean Theme 2.0 and so I update the underlying Symbiostock theme but don't do anything else (after the first time where I saw that Activating it replaced CleanTheme as my current theme and I then had to Activate that again).

I did a little search on WordPress's help and tutorials and couldn't find anything.

I think only cascoly could appreciate how funny this is -

for some reason I was using a "strip quotes" function to sanitize the csv file. Thats probably the dumbest coding mistake I've made to date. Oh well, fixed now.

Leo as I don't like categories all my images are in 2 categories and that makes it impossible to process..

People not using categories will have hard time processing.. is it possible that you split the results in pages so I don't get 800 + images when I click on any given category..

Do we need to do something to get it to show up or will it appear after a future update?

On a side note re: stability - I'm hosted on Blue Host, using the latest WP version (3.6?) and Symbiostock 2.6.4 and the standard child theme.  Everything seems stable for me.  Test purchase worked as expected and image moved to download area.  Everything is stable at this point.

Next steps are to upgrade the site to Amanda's child theme and Leo's premium plug in.

Really? People are still having issues. Can you define what the definition of stable in this context is?

I have not encountered one issue in my upgrade from 2.5.5 to 2.6.4 with pro, it all works fine, thus stable. I say this because I have a very basic site, without any custom stuff, so straight from the box, Symbiostock Pro is stable.

In software? Technically:

http://bitdepth.thomasrutter.com/2010/04/02/stable-vs-stable-what-stable-means-in-software/

But to say no problems for 95 people? If 3 or 4 have problems, we continue to address them. If 10 have problems (bugs, not unfulfilled wishes) we address those and consider that things might not be working out right on a larger scale.

Its a finicky thing but we're making progress. For instance today I've solved 2 named issues. The purchase issue on your site is a real puzzle - the thing that gets me is that if a sandbox purchase works, a "real" one should work too. Which leads me to think its a paypal (or your account) issue but I'm not jumping to conclusions. I've been on this all morning btw just to make sure I leave no stone unturned. :D

So are the purchases you make not going to the download area for you either? Not sure how it can be a Paypal or my account issue, it worked on 2.5.6, then didnt on 2.6.0.

If the issue can't be resolved, I can just roll back to 2.5.6 where it did work. I notice jeanclicac rolled back to 2.5.5.

There is no reason why it wouldnt work for others, if they use symbiostock as is.

I think you are mistaking me for someone else. I have had minor issues with things, like everyone else, until 2.5.5. That was stable for me. Update to 2.5.6 was stable for me. Purchases have gone through just fine for months now, in fact I haven't had issues with that before at all. Not sure what you mean by "long term fight with Symbiostock."

With the rollback to 2.5.5 (2.5.6 simply fixed uploader/hosting issue) the cart does not drop purchases to the download area.

Here is all the "clues" the the puzzle so far.

  • Firebug shows that all necessary post data is being submitted to paypal.
  • Paypal's developer (fake) transaction works perfectly. Its meant to be a mirror-image of the real system. (Tests work in sandbox, not in paid environment for you)
  • Rolling back to 2.5.5 - problem persists. Download not given.
Thats what I have so far. I'll keep noodling it. In the meantime can you check your IPN is turned off? Just in case its hijacking the process (unlikely, but just to make sure)

No, I don't get downloads. What I mean is your site is not doing it in this version or the rolled back version.

The last thing we can do is see if the IPN is going through at all (I suspect its not) simply by having the IPN script located in /symbiostock_ipn/ write a text document of the results. Its an annoying processes, but I'll do that quickly and update you. After that I'll have to depart for a bit to the other issues.

Update to latest version then turn the theme off then on again. That action runs the installer which should update your folder.

That process worked perfectly for me a few days ago.

I have not encountered one issue in my upgrade from 2.5.5 to 2.6.4 with pro, it all works fine, thus stable. I say this because I have a very basic site, without any custom stuff, so straight from the box, Symbiostock Pro is stable.

OK, so you really mean, stable for you. I think it's fair to say it's stable for most people. But there are some others besides me that have been having issues.  :)

no, it's stable, period.  stable doesn't mean there are no bugs. - as leo explained, no software is ever 100% bugfree.  and when people are using different browsers, hosts, etc it can be hard even to know where the problem is.

stability means most people are able to use the program and that's bee true since v2.5

same here -- I had some conceptual problems getting collections to work, but that wasn't a bug but a misunderstanding of a feature.   for me, colllections are a giant step forward.

Short feedback from me:
Working with the most recent versions of the theme and the premium update, everything seems to be stable here. I uploaded, processed and edited a new file and a friend of mine just did a test purchase of an extended license ... everything worked like it should ... cheers, Leo  :)
