Title: Yay reopening??
Post by: Chichikov on April 24, 2020, 04:21
I closed my account about a year ago.
I asked them to pay what they owed me, but they never did.
Yesterday I received this email from them:

“Hello, hello!

Here at the newly formed YayImages, along with new owners and management (working from home), we are undergoing some changes.

As one of our valued contributors, we would like you to be the first to know about some new initiatives at Yay.

First, customers can now purchase your images and vectors for $4.99 each, on our refreshed website.

We are seeing strong traffic and sales growth with the new single sales model as customers start to prefer paying for what they need, when they need it.  Some contributors are starting to see average image sale prices move up.

Second, as you know, we are refreshing our contributor dashboard and moving more services away from yaymicro, to the new https://contributors.yayimages.com/ dashboard.

Third, we are launching video footage single sales. The pricing model will be single sales only, customers pay for what they need, when they need it. We will share commissions on a 50/50 basis.

Pricing for video single sales, will be as follows:
   •   SD: $49
   •   HD: $59
   •   4K: $149

The first step you need to take to become a video contributor, is to login to the contributor dashboard and request approval.

Once approved, you will be able to easily send your mp4 and mov source files, through sftp.

With the current stay-at-home measures around the world & the work from home movement, we're seeing a high number of requests for video content.

Click here to login and request approval to become a video contributor.

Stay safe!

So the worse an agency treats you the more you will do marketing for them.

?????????????

I just shared some news, isn't that what you're supposed to do on a forum like this?
Also if the name of the site is the same it seems that the owners and managers are different (which remains to be proven).

Agreed - like them or not - it is a 'newsworthy' post and worth a conversation.  If you don't like them for whatever reason, you can feel free to share why not as well.

A new word for me, googling it i think it goes for most agencies.

Let's give them the benefit of "new administration" before judging them.

I like the video related message part:

I posted it in another thread that talked about the closing of Yay, a threat that had been inactive for several months.
For this reason I thought it would be interesting to open a new dedicated thread with a more comprehensible title.
After that there are those who can understand and trolls for whom the only reason to exist on this forum is to criticize other users of the forum…
Have a nice day!

First of all for some reason they are trying to spin that they are newly formed. Yayimages is not newly formed, they have been around at least 4 years if not longer. 4 years is by no stretch of the imagination newly formed.

New management/owner? On their old site yaymicro they still show the same management as usual. In the whois information on both sites they are hidden behind Godaddy's privacy protection. So they pay $30 a year to hide themselves.

@Chichikov Would that $30 cover what they owe you?

Currently I don't have any more pictures on this site, I removed everything about a year ago and asked to be paid. Which never happened.
On the other hand my earnings are still active on the site.
I've always been, very critical of Yay and their way of doing things (or more exactly of not doing things), and those who have read my comments about this site know it very well (so when the first idiot who comes by says I'm advertising to them it freaks me out a bit...)
It seems to me however that this new offer could be interesting, and in any case not less interesting than those offered by many other sites.
Today Pond5 is selling off our videos and I don't even want to talk about the prices practiced by agencies like Shutterstock or Getty...
Right now the big question is: "Is this really serious?"
Moreover, as far as I'm concerned, I wonder if it's really worth wasting time to reload photos and videos, and in what quantity, knowing very well that on this kind of site the quantity is important if you want to have any chance to earn money...

@MicrostockPosts, we all look positive for a fresh profitable start, no sub sales
50/50 split, empty video libraries to fill first with our work etc etc.
Here is one of my native local words / phrases
"nothing comes /is born from parthenogenesis"
meaning that nothing comes out of nothing, from a virgin ground,
rather using or transforming old materials, as seen elsewhere, evolved.
IS there any other escape plan from <$5 video sub sales?

Guess Chichikov made the correct point:

Quote
Right now the big question is: "Is this really serious?"

What seems interesting to me is that they "open" the gates to video up to 4K
meaning they have made space and arrangements to curate and accept (?)
a large amount of files. Or a handpicked boutique of selected? Who knows.
In one hand I like them mentioning "we see a demand on videos"
and the "work from home new culture" they don't cry, they see an oportunity
plus the pricing and selling method they choosed.

On the other hand I keep the word you used "unscrupulous"
because you are also correct, an agency might say A and do B. Time will tell.

I know that they are not a "newly formed" company. You need to ask them why they are trying to spin it that way. Yayimages was actually registered in 2009-04-16 but they only actively used it since they switched from Yaymicro about 4 or 5 years ago..

I also know that they are a microstock site which uses privacy protection on their domains to hide their details from the public which very few microstock sites feel the need to do.

I keep getting emails from them and I logged into a account that I set up in 2012, and much to my surprise I have $ 4.57, can't find any images so I must have deleted them.

But I do keep getting emails, does anyone ever get any sales on this site?

As I am considering uploading.

As I am considering uploading.

I wouldn't.  I've had a few sales recently, with royalties between .05 and .12.  I asked them to close my account; the response was suggesting that I upload more in hope of increased sales.  Nope, not gonna happen.

I've been with at first YayMicro and then integrating into YayImages for about 10 years.
I have had a couple of payments from yaymicro / yayimages with a portfolio under 2,000 pics so far.
I don't like it when agencies don't pay but, I've only had it happen to me at Crestock (that just recently is going through bankruptcy and being acquired by Designpics.com If you know anything about designpics please let me know, thanks) so far and that video site, Revostock or something like it? Sorry for your mentioned losses.
I like that YayImages opened up to video with a 50% commission, although pic sales are low in volume and commissions. And, I surely wish they would raise them more, but as they say video sales are now possible with what they are seeing and saying. Might be worth a try?
Nicole Glass, micro stocker/Youtuber, https://www.youtube.com/user/nicoleglass01 (https://www.youtube.com/user/nicoleglass01) , said she was seeing more increased sales on Pond5 with more additions recently so there might be a correlation? Video was said to increase last few years now. Maybe it'd be good to create more video content? I'm working on it.
I don't like the usually very low commission pictures but, they have been selling more recently from what I have seen in yayimages.
I'm not closing my account any time soon and am thinking about uploading some videos to them to see if there are any sales. Best good to everyone.

I started uploading to Yay about two months ago after I heard they were under new leadership. I also noticed these 5c and 9c sales which seemed to contradict the story about their 50% commission to contributors. I got an answer this morning from their Director of Marketing - these are from legacy accounts that they are closing down. The new pricing plans would have a minimum payment of 25c. His full response is in my blog post.

He also said their FTP for images is overloaded and they are trying to fix that. The one for video is newer technology and working well and I'm currently uploading my videos to them. I don't know how they will do with sales but they have been very helpful to me over the past few days.

Ive gone through their website but couldn't find any information about submitting videos or video technical requirements. I only found info on submitting stills. I wonder if they accept editorial videos (though I do plan on selling my editorial clips as exclusive on Pond 5.)
Title: Re: Yay reopening??
Post by: steheap on June 01, 2020, 14:13
You need to apply for submitting videos (they don't sell them to the public yet). I understand that they are likely to take some appropriate editorial images and videos but it might be on a contributor by contributor basis depending on what they think might be in demand.

Ah thankyou for the info. I noted last night that they were promoting stock footage on their website. I'd probably submit commercial videos to them and send my editorial clips to P5 as exclusive.

Hello again!

A brief update about where we are at with our video contributor technology.
We have recently launched video pricing tiers. This means you can price all of your videos or just one individual video at another price point.
Existing high quality contributors are grandfathered into the "Premium" tier.
New contributors will start at the "Regular" tier. After uploading 100 approved videos, you can apply for the "Premium" tier.

Here's how the new pricing works:
    "Budget" (HD - $5, no 4K)
    "Regular" (HD - $24.99, 4K - $59)
    "Premium" (HD - $59, 4K - $149)

Some videos, like a time-lapse or a less offered content drone shot or a video shot with a DSLR at 4K higher bitrate has different value than a GoPro video for example.
To solve this problem, you can now reprice existing approved videos by clicking the checkbox next to the desired video, in the "Videos" navigation tab.

Regular is priced way too low, in my opinion. So I've applied for Premium tier. hopefully this will be applied without any hassles.
I've uploaded my entire vector and video portfolio last week, let's see if that brings me any sales.

Does yayimages accept editorial images or not?

I ask this because I uploaded hundreds of images there a few weeks ago and ALL commercial images got accepted, but ALL editorial not - strange!

I wrote them two times already and asked them about the editorials. Might be I did something wrong. But I checked editorial images from other users and could not find any differences.
I could understand if they reject some or maybe many of my editorial images, but ALL? (Nearly all images are online on many other agencies.)

I read that yayimages seems not helping much if we ask them. So I ask you to get a faster answer.

Thank you in advance.

Same here. One month later than my last post, all I got is still 03 cents for this promotional use too.
I started uploading my laterst photos and videos, going back to previous ones.
With these zero sales I can't easily find any incentive to go and upload my past stock for zero return.
I hope some decent sales will make me change my mind soon.
I really liked the good and direct communication with them, which is more than welcome, but that will not pay the rent.

Just looked into YAY. Looks like they offer unlimited DLs packages for $29 per month and have opted everyone in site wide since reopening (even those who didn't opt their images in when the subs site started a few years ago).

Other subs packages also look pretty outrageous:

Would strongly recommend everyone thinks about removing their images.

About the RPD of 0,05 I got informed a few month ago. Enough reason to delete my portfolio there, but was to lazy until today.
But the # unlimited DLs packages for $29 per month # forced me to delete all images just now, one by one. uff. Finished!
But of course my portfolio still shows all images, so I did not delete the whole portfolio/account. I left ONE image and will prove, if all others will disappear for sure in the next days.

I have found some of my images. When they said they were closing the old site and we needed to opt in to sell our images for unlimited subs on the new site I didn't opt in. I thought all my images had been deleted when the old site closed. Turns out they eventually just opted it all in without permission.

Also found my images on partner sites under their name.

Other people have reported closing accounts on YAY then finding their images still on sale by YAY on partner sites YEARS later. eg. on this thread:

Looks like they were making sales and not reporting/ paying contributors. This also rings true for me, I found a lot of my images on partner sites through YAY where I make a lot of sales yet no sales through YAY for the same images on the same sites...

Anyone know if Morphart got any satisfaction or posted an update? I have PMd him asking of he wants to chime in here.

Hi!

Didn't read the full thread nor what you are experiencing with them? Basically my experience with them was the following:
- Didn't have any answer for a while there and had a small balance.
- Yay got ''bought out'' buy a few guys I think in Fall 2019 and they contacted me to get my content online but early on they did a huge promotion where they almost give away the images.
Those special offer / subscription sales are reference in the PROMOTION line on each month at the top. For those PROMOTION, I get that we don't know how many image were dowloaded, only the total revenue. You can check it when login to your contributor account here https://contributors.yayimages.com/login (https://contributors.yayimages.com/login) or direct link to last month: https://contributors.yayimages.com/downloads/2020-11 (https://contributors.yayimages.com/downloads/2020-11).

But for me I didn't reupload after my initial upload of photos/videos. The sales are low, and revenue per image is low. I asked one payout since I'm with them which included the small balance I had before and everything was paid out. Hope this helps out?

I also haven't try removing my content but from what I get with them I'll definetly consider sooner than later.

Thanks for the update. Also worth mentioning they have no contributor terms on the site. Link is broken. Has been like that since I first tried to read them some time ago.

May be worth trying to delete a couple of images, they seem to not care and will continue to sell them. You may want to verify for yourself. This is a nightmare from a site I thought I was done with.

If I check my email the contact info I had from the new owners was: YAY Images <[email protected]> and I had the Skype from 2019 which was SKYPE: wiredcinema and Business phone number (found on Skype): +19493426648 (Grant Baker) which was the original person who contacted me when restarting Yay Images. Last talk I had was back in May 2020 when he asked if I would upload videos. To be honest I didn't really took time to look through them was very busy on other projects and giving my full attention to stock site we get treated well. For me I try to focus on Canva which, as mostly illustration, I am getting so much return, riding the wave :).

Playing advocate of the devil, this was apparently going on years ago under the old management? Who is to say the new management is going to be just as shady?

That said, the site seems dead to me. No sales, nothing. I've spent quite some time uploading and tagging my portfolio, but if RPD and sales are low, it seems to have been a major waste of time.

Got my first couple of sales.

A pitiful $4 per video download, apparently some cheap ass subscription sale.
I put up my videos in the Premium tier at $59 per video, 50% commission, but they sell for this cheap?
What a joke of a site. I'm going to delete my entire portfolio, can't believe I fell for this crap.

Wish you the best with that. You can delete from the dashboard but in my experience they keep selling the images anyway. The only solution could be to DMCA their web host.

After delete all videos and photos on your portfolio, write yay every three days, that they should defenitly delete and remove all files from your portfolio AND from all other agencies, where they also sell them for example Alamy and agefotostock. AND tell them you will keep the forum updated if they do it or not. With that way my photos were finally deleted and removed all. You can read about it also in the other thread:

I have same situation. For short moment, when I received e-mail from Yay I was happy thinking that my footage was sold for normal price... But that was not for long, when I looked at sales were $4 per video. It's far lower than my files was priced. But when I looked at their new pricing and plans for video, I understood, what a great mistake I've made uploading there. So according to UNLIMITED PLAN customers can download unlimited videos and pictures for as low as $29.00/month. Interesting how earnings for unlimited downloads calculated...

I think I need to remove my portfolio from there.

I just wanted to remind you all that stay on Yayimages, to read the contributor agreement.

"YAY does not take responsibility if an image has been marked for deletion, and is still available for sales either on yaymicro.com or any partner site. It is the contributors responsibility to make sure the image has in fact been removed."

After I closed my account in 2016 on Yay, their partner, agefotostock kept selling my images until recently. It took me about 2 months to get them deleted, and I got 0 payment for these 4 years.

It is our responsibility, but they don't give a f**k and when you ask for deletion the partners will tell you they have no contract with you as a contributor, and yay will tell you it's not their problem.

Yayimages is my worst nightmare in my 12 years of being a contributor.

No. I've stopped uploading and deleted most of my clips. Soon I will delete rest of my portfolio...

I've tried to point out the same but for some reason the obvious, falls on deaf ears. Just like people wondering about Canstock. I wonder how places like these stay in business, but we both see the answer. There are people so desperate for some small bit of money, that they will upload to sites that are half broken, don't pay them and the sales are terrible besides all that.

When Yay closes and keeps their earnings, we'll have a round of, "how can they do this to us?" which should be, "Why did I do this to myself."

Yayimages is my worst nightmare in my 12 years of being a contributor.

People who still have their work on Yay should read what zsooofija has gone through with them. Yay does not remove her images after years! Plus denying that they are responsible for removal from partner sites. Why would anyone stay with Yay?

By the way they do not reply to any of my messages. They just ignore my questions...

I don't know how anyone could be satisfied with $4 per clip. That's pretty insulting. I was considering submitting some commercial videos of mine to Yay but now I'm glad that I didn't. I think I'll keep my distance from this agency.

Made the payout treshold, now busy processing ID verification. Then I'll delete my videos and turn my back on these liars forever.

So far I have no problem with them.

Just requested my 2nd payout with them. Yayhooo!

What the heck, did they change the minimum payout to $60? I'd swear it was $30 earlier?

Not sure if they changed it, i didn't pay attention to payout threshold before and my payouts always over $100.

good luck sir
