On Wednesday, as part of Google's I/O event, Adobe announced their partnership:

"Today we announced that we’re bringing Firefly to Bard by Google with the ability to continue your creative journey in Adobe Express, to inspire millions of people to create. In the coming months, Firefly will power and highlight text-to-image capabilities in Google’s experimental conversational AI service, with the ability to continue your creative journey further in Express. Users of all skill levels will be able to describe their vision to Bard in their own words to create Firefly generated images directly in Bard.

After you generate an image with Firefly, you will have the ability to edit and further modify it using Express, making it easy to create standout content with inspiration from Express’s beautiful, high-quality collection of templates, fonts, Stock images and assets."

Up till now, if you downloaded an image you generated with Firefly beta, (a) it had a watermark and (b) was not authorized for commercial use. Is that true for the output from Bard/Firefly/Adobe Express?

"Stay tuned in the weeks ahead for updates on Firefly and more exciting features coming to Express!"

I think it's more than time for an update for contributors on when they might see compensation, or at least a plan. We should not just be an afterthought as the execs make deals. What exactly is holding up the compensation model announcement?

We were asked to be patient while beta was underway (although it would have been preferable to have to consulted before the training was done), but announcing a big new partnership, trumpeting the main advantage to be the rights to their (our) content, makes it clear the marketing messages are Adobe's priority, not the reality of putting a compensation plan in place.

It's lovely that the press coverage is emphasizing the ethical basis for Firefly - our content uploaded to Adobe Stock - but that has to be backed up with a plan and actual compensation.

I trust Adobe. They have built an ethical ai and this deal should bring lots of customers that will also get plugged into their stock offerings.

I think this is also a good opportunity for the Adobe ai collection, I think when people try prompting and see excellent ready to use ai content on offer parallel to their prompting, I think many will prefer a „professional“ ai image.

Obviously would like to know more about how we get paid for ai use, but expanding the Adobe universe to a very large customer group is good news IMO.

Hmm yes... Like we all trusted Adobe when they made all the people who'd bought their softwares to keep paying them subscriptions for eternity. Yeah, very trustworthy those people.

And yes, I know what you're going to say. "Don't use Adobe software if you don't like to pay subs". I don't and won't but that doesn't make them "trustworthy".

for May, AS is my BME , 10% more than last 3 mo and 30% more than previous year's avg . SS is about avg, now slightly ahead of AS, plus addtl $200 this month from contributor fund

To me, Adobe's touting their AI as "ethical" while using our work without our permission and without payment, while thousands of people take advantage of that data in Adobe firefly beta, and now in Photoshop beta too, is simply wrong.

I've been so impressed by Adobe's attempts to engage the Stock photography community from the Discord channel to the plethora of free classes, AdobeMAX online free, and Mat's engagement here. I love their products and use LR and PS pretty much every day - and lately I've been blown away by PS Express on my iPad too. I'm also up 47% from this time last year in my earnings on Adobe Stock.

So, I'd happily be an Adobe fan, but their claim that their AI is "ethical" just rings hollow when we are left with nothing after they used our hard work, not just the photos, but all the time, effort and research that goes into the keywords too, to train their awesome AI.

They could not have done it without us. It's time to give us our share.

I also like Adobe,and I'm also sure they have to look after their own interests first,otherwise they can't even support the artists.

With AS I feel free to express my art,and to create whatever I want,and to index the created content as I see fit.

with AS everything happens with clarity,and let's not forget that it was not written anywhere that they had to give the contributor bonus program but they chose to do it,as well as free collections by choosing to pay contributors,and for one year only,and you can choose what content and I have already sold many times content that was last year in the free collection,so I get money for just one year in the free collection and after one year I continue to sell too the same contents in the paid collection.The minimum payout at 25,to help new contributors so they can withdraw something too…what we want more?

Yes AI…for the moment I am also continuing to sell illustrations made with 4 lines, illustrations that probably even a 6 year old child can do!Customers prefer real images,real people,real places and above all ready-made content.

yes I'm in the eurozone too,but what can you do?These are difficult times,and so now it's the same for everyone,it's also right.

trust? I don't even trust my best friend probably….but at the moment the best agency out there is definitely Adobe.

I just want to add that I feel like giving them the benefit of the doubt.

In my opinion this is another smart move by Adobe which,with the partnership with Google,will bring even more customers towards us,so they use our work to train Firefly that in the end will rewards us much more.

I hope so,and as far as I'm concerned Adobe has largely deserved at least the benefit of the doubt.

I think their shareholders come first. They don't support artists at all. None of these micro stock agencies put their priority to supporting artists. To think otherwise you are only foolinig yourself.

It seems to me that Adobe should reserve compensation (if they ever keep their promise) only for contributors not submitting AI-generated images.
For AI prompters and AI enthusiasts, compensation is already taking place, as they benefit and take advantage of the generation of their images by an AI, that exploits images from other authors.
