I was looking around to learn if any of existing free CMS (e.g Drupal) got add-ons for gallery with shopping cart that could be easily add to my site. Ideally images should be hosted on some storage site like Amazon S3 and cart should handle Paypal or Amazon FPS. Gallery 2 got integration with some photo printing services, maybe it could be adapted to sell images instead?

Didn't read the whole thread still here's another option:
Joomla and Virtue mart : http://virtuemart.net/

selling images on your site only works for famous photographers with kickass portfolios.

and even in this case, famous photogs are usually already represented by an agency.

you can try selling your prints, your calendars, even your postcards and t-shirts but don't expect much in return.

and anyway, you'll waste more time marketing your site than actually making pictures.

there's a good reason after all if the Pros are using agencies.
to each his own.

the very reason to use micros and macros are to get the foot in the marketplace and having it
100% automated.

I thought I would let everyone know that our Pro-Accounts, which include your own personal store/site & the ability to custom watermark are now live. Gives you your own very simple site for $20/year.

i.e. http://danjames.clustershot.com/

*We support custom domain hosting as well.

It's still not what I asked for anyway. It's more like competition (weak) to Smugmug ;-)

zymmetrical - Sorry if we've rubbed you the wrong way. It was never intentional. We're generally a pretty easy group to get along with. To be honest I don't even really know what you're talking about. $O budget for artists? Can you elaborate on this so I might be able to address it and respond appropriately?

Also, I'm not sure our success as a web development company is a BAD thing.

melastmohican - Yeah, I know it's not what you originally asked for either :). It's closer though than where we were before. Photoshelter has been doing some impressive work with integrating into other's sites. A lot of wordpress integration etc.

We're a little ways out from being able to offer you what you're looking for. It is planned though. Getting a full API out this year is one of our top priorities. We'd like for you to be able to do whatever you'd like on your own site (regarding selling photos) with your clustershot stored photos. If you have any ideas on features you'd like please let me know. We'd be glad to hear them and see what we can integrate.

I didn't realize that it was correct etiquette in here to quote all things I was responding to.  My bad. Thanks for pointing it out.

Also, nice quick edit on your last post :). It is indeed sunny somewhere in the world.

Drupal allow you to selling goods base on credit system but you have to add some component, I'v tried in local computer, with small modifiaction you could selling photo base on creadit system with drupal.
Or buy php script like http://www.stockphotoscript.com/ only $25

We're stubborn enough that the fact that all other stock sites watermark images doesn't necessarily mean we should :). We're not AGAINST the idea we simply are unsure of the benefit and have decided to err on the side of trust rather than suspicion. Does anyone know of any research, statistic, or even personal anecdotes that prove that watermarking is worth it?

If it's a huge problem to put a watermark and the (C) symbol on the image, to notify people that it's not free, then it's not worth it for me to feed the people who are uninformed or provide easy access to thieves by using your site.

I think you'll find many others who would agree and expect a watermark, with right click disabled, before they use your software or site.

That alone should be a good enough reason.  :)

Sure, lots of people expect a watermark and we're offering optional custom watermarks in our Pro-accounts now.

As for disabling right clicking I think that's overkill and beyond what ANY website should be able to do to a user's computer/browser. Besides, they could just hit print screen.
