Can you explain the latest with uploads to Fotolia.
[...]

Steve,
Actually I can not. As far as I can see there are no operational issues with the system in the last few weeks.
About a month ago we solved a major problem with distribution, which caused content distribution to hang up from time to time.
Since then the things look quite reliable - it plain works, at least at my side.

Fotolia has been OK since I wrote this post - it does seem to be a day or so behind the others, but it gets there. I don't see uploads happening to Panthermedia or Cutcaster - do you see those working for other people (it may be a configuration issue on my part!)

My suggestion to add a small table on the Support page would make it easier for contributors to know if you had an issue with a site that had changed its upload process, or if we should just wait and the files would get there in the end.

Either way - it is a great service, and I included it in the blog I published last week about the workflow I follow for managing stock photos. Hope this gets you some more customers.

Steve,
Thanks for your kindly words.

Here is the current status with CutCaster & Panthermedia: they DO NOT WORK as pre-defined channels, here is why -

- PantherMedia uses our API, but they have some IT problems with that on their side, for a long time now. So the uploads 'went out of order' in December 2010, and it is still there. FTP-ing there is the way to get the files with them. Not so good, since there is no sales stats with FTP

- CutCaster - initially I implemented their protocol, but they came with a completely redesigned web site a month later. John has our API and hopefully one day they will implement it. Till than - FTP there.

Definitely the more people will contact PantherMedia and CC asking for LightBurner / ProStockMaster support (it's the same API for both tools) the faster you will be able to work with them.

Will it be supported in the future (since I do not plan on changing browsers just for the sake of one site) or should I just drop it?
Thanks

Is something wrong with the sales reports? I can see it anywhere in the site

First off, thanks for this service.

I have two question/recommendation thoug.
1. It would be great if you could get some kind of feedback if a submission of images has been successful or not. When you select a couple of channels to submit to, it won't tell you if one of the channels accepted your submission. Or did I oversee this feature?

Does anybody still use lightburner.com?
They seem to be totally down for several hours and I noticed error messages yesterday all day long.

"Error establishing a database connection"

I tried picworkflow.com but I hate that they don't include Alamy as an upload option.

Any ideas or alternatives?

Yes, down for me as well, although their FTP is working fine. Hopefully they will fix it for the morning

Does that happen a lot?
I mean I'm not complaining since it's a free service, but I still rather pay for something that works reliable than not knowing when I will get the submission done and where my image files went to.

Still down ...

Fist time it has happened to me. I like the service as it saves a lot of time and effort, and so I think I will wait for a little while before changing to something else. If necessary, you can go back to FTP to each site, although the danger is that if Lightburner comes back, they will process the files they have on their own FTP server and you will have double uploads, which is a pain. I just uploaded 50 images, and so I think waiting is the best option.

The Lightburner system is back on line, and the images I uploaded to the FTP are now visible. Nothing seems to have been distributed, but maybe that is the next step!

We had a short outage for the service yesterday. Thanks for Angelika for letting me now. It's the first failure in 7 months. I guess it's still much better than many other online systems do.

Technical details:
It looks like the DB received to many connections yesterday, probably we had too many web service processes trying to work in parallel with the DB - still need to be investigated.

The system is fully back now and all the images uploaded to LB should be distributed soon (probably they already are).

Thank you for this excellent service.

Unfortunately I am facing the following problems:

1. Crestock and Cutcaster do not work. It can not save the login info though i can log in to both the sites individually.

2. As I upload to the /upload directory in remote site, I can not see the photos in "my portfolio" section immediately. How long does it take to process the photos and appear?

3. This is very important: I tried 5 test upload to Alamy. In the information of the respective photographs, I see that the photos are mentioned as of 72dpi whereas originally these are 300dpi images. Does LB automatically downsizes the dpi? And if yes, how can I prevent it from doing so? Please note that I do not have the resize option enabled under channel preference.

4. Using FileZilla (OS XP) I uploaded 5 photos, but I can see only 3 under "Assets". The other two are listed in the remote directory but not appearing under "Assets" in my LB portfolio. I waited for about 20 minutes. :(

5. In FileZilla I am getting a warning related to "Unknown Host Key". What is it? Should I worry about it?

Please help me out

Thanks again

If a site does not work for you over HTTP you can always create a custom FTP channel.

2. As I upload to the /upload directory in remote site, I can not see the photos in "my portfolio" section immediately. How long does it take to process the photos and appear?
It is not an immediate process, but it should not take more than 10 min for your photos to appear.

No upsize / downsize if you did not selected that. Excuse my French, but DPI settings are a complete crap for a digital image. Look at the width and the height of the image in pixels. Did the image size change?

4. Using FileZilla (OS XP) I uploaded 5 photos, but I can see only 3 under "Assets". The other two are listed in the remote directory but not appearing under "Assets" in my LB portfolio. I waited for about 20 minutes. :(
It could be a problem in the images causing your images failed to upload. The most typical problem is a 'strange' file name (international, non a-z0-9 symbols etc)
Give me your username at LB, I'll look into it.

5. In FileZilla I am getting a warning related to "Unknown Host Key". What is it? Should I worry about it?
You should not.

Please help me out

Thanks again

1) when do you plan to add the support for model releases?
2) login to crestock doesn't work at lightburner (I double checked logging in and out manually, but lightburner says verification doesn't work)

Mike,

Do not know yet

2) login to crestock doesn't work at lightburner (I double checked logging in and out manually, but lightburner says verification doesn't work)

Tell Crestock to stop changing their web - or switch to our API

Hi

I just started using Lightburner. Looks good although I am having a few problems logging into some of the sites. I only have a few images as I am starting off and only been uploading on and off for a year. I use Lightroom which I love. i tried doing things on the cheap first by using some free software such as Gimp and DigiKam but Lightroom is probably the best software I have ever used for anything.

So I wonder if you can help me. What method do you use top go from Lightroom to Lightburner? Do you export and then use an FTP program. I couldn't find a pluggin for Lightroom and Lightburner - I guess there isn't one. I did find a pluggin for lightroom to upload to PicWorkFlow  which seems to work well. I will now keyword in Lightroom.

Before this I was using prostockmaster which works well but I like think Lightburner looks better?

regards to you all

Yes, I export after keywording, and then use an FTP program (mine is Filezilla).
Which sites give login problems?  I can use it for SS, IS, FT, DS, CAN, 123RF, but not for GLO and CC.

Is Lightburner uploading to Fotolia using a direct web connection, or should I be setting it up as an FTP channel. I have just noticed that I haven't sent any new images to them since mid June, and the latest set are not showing any success in connecting to Fotolia.

I know you depend on the ability to electronically read their web pages and that breaks from time to time, but it would be really helpful if you kept an up to date summary of status on the Support page. It would immediately let us know if we should take some other action - such as upload direct.

Steve,
Fotolia indeed looks broken, will look into it.

I told Pierre they have to update their API with an upload option, but it is still not there, so everything goes through the web pages.
Any change their webmasters do can affect the delivery, and this is what happened.

Hello Fotolia, are you interested to get more content or what? Do something guys, I am getting really tired of fixing the things that should never break.

Is there some way of seeing which sites my image made it up to, without having to click all the way down the channels list ?

I have an amber for partial upload, but no idea which failed ??  :(
