Davidm,

Just giving your software a try and I like the interface and the idea behind it.

One feature that would be really helpful is a title character count.  I'm recently freed from Istock exclusivity and all my images are titled to comply with Istock's title restriction which is no more than 10 words.  FT on the other hand will accept no more than 64 characters, so I have to edit each image individually to make it fit.  If I have more than 65 characters, FT will truncate the title.  A real time count of how many characters I've used would be fantastic.

Same is true with keywords.  Going from Istock CV to anything else is huge pain as the whole philosophy of keywording is different.  I've spent a lot of time prepping my keywords through bulk editing to eliminate Istock CV terms that make no sense outside of Istock such as "young women only" converting this to "young" and "woman" or "women" as appropriate and dropping "only" entirely.  These types of edits typically results in me having way more than 50 keywords in an image, so I have to cut down my list to get to 50.  I need a counter to tell me how many keywords I have so I can figure out what else needs to be cut.  Presently its easier to manage both of these on the FT site, since it gives me immediate feedback if there are too many keywords or the title is too long.

I have a couple thousand files to upload to a number of sites, but I'm not in a position to upload them to many sites all at once, for example different weekly upload limits across the sites.  I need to upload the library to some sites and not others, then come back maybe months later and upload to the rest of the sites.  Given that I would have to upload and edit the images a second time is a big disincentive to using lightburner.  On the other hand if I could store the images with edited metadata for later use, the time saved would be worth quite a bit of money to me.

I think there are going to be lots more istock exclusives in my situation, needing to upload large portfolios to many sites.  The timing for some type of subscription might be a whole lot more favorable than it was for iSyndica.

Thank you for the great feedback, and taking time to write it all down!
I value it very much, and the things you mentioned will be added.

Meanwhile, I have added words and characters counters for the metadata fields:

More stuff follow.

David, I'm having problems with my BigStockphoto account at Lightburner.  I typed and retyped the correct login name and password, but Lightburner does not accept it : "please verify your user credentials and try again".  I checked the login/password on the BigStock website and they worked, so what's wrong?  It cannot be a capital letter problem, as I copy/paste my passwords, and there are no characters like @ or $ in the password.

I'll look into it soon. BS does not use our API yet and, unfortunately, we depend on changes they make on their web. Each time their developers play with a few pages we have to issue a fix.
The only thing I can suggest - send a message to BS and ask them to work with us via API.

The same is correct for CutCaster. John informed me that they are going to change their web site, and well - now they did. However, since CutCaster does not use our API we have to fix the integration each time they change their web pages.

Panthermedia uses our API, but they currently have a temporary problem with their server. Until they replace that hardware I suggest sending them images over a custom FTP channel.

"Update" and "Delete" buttons work for the custom channels you define, allowing you to change FTP server or port for the selected channel. Naturally, you can not do that for pre-integrated channels e.g. iStock. For iStock & Co, simply select a channel, enter your user credentials at right and press "Save" button.

Wow!  Looks great and is exactly what I need.  Thanks!

Following up on the issue of needed to upload to different sites weeks apart, I understand that if I upload a file to lightburner and submit it to several sites through lightburner, after a little bit of time passes, Lightburner will delete the high res image but will retain the metadata and a low res image.  My question is if I come back 2 months later and upload the image again because I want to distribute it to a bunch more sites, will lightburner recognize it as something uploaded before and match the new high res image with the old metadata?  It would be great if it did, as that would really address the storage problem for me.

Thanks again

You have to assign your picture(s) to the channel(s). You can also decide to auto-assign / auto-distribute any uploaded image to the channels of your choice.

Simply put, go to Portfolio, open 'Channels' at left, than drag and drop your image(s) to iStock channel. Other assignment options are also available.
Your assigned images will be automatically picked up for the distribution and sometime later you will see them in your iStockphoto account.

I tried that (drag & drop) but nothing happens?

Once you dropped an image to a channel you are done. The distribution is automated, so no further action required.
The image thumbnail shows simple red/yellow/green distribution status (page refresh required to track statuses changes)
red = not assigned
yellow = assigned, not uploaded yet or uploaded for some channels only
green = uploaded OK to all selected channels

You also can check the upload status of your image by clicking the thumbnail and going to "Stats" pane. If the image is already distributed you will see the upload date/time there.

Not much happening here either !  Having failed with Cutcaster and PantherMedia, I tried CanStock, but nothing happening there either !?

This is my first try of this prog, not overly impressed so far  :-\

seems very impressive to me.

I uploaded 10 images yesterday and told it to do a full submit to all sites (expect bigstock and cutcaster where it wont connect).

taken a while to get my head around it all but my thoughts and observations,

after about 24 hours, it is still processing (I think? - they are all still yellow) so some of this may be fixed by itself soon,

some sites like 123rf and deposit are all in the reviewing queue, done and happy,
DT and Canstock got all 10 in the unfinished but it hasnt pushed them through (as yet)?,
FT - 2 doubles - 8 are awaiting review (no category so see how that goes), 4 are uploaded and waiting to be submitted (dont know if it comes back and does this?)
Veer scored an one photo twice - 7 pending, 4 in the waiting
SS has only got 1 image as has Alamy which has an error (but it may be size or anything not sure yet).
IS (which I wasn't going to submit to, but I had created the channel and it got done :)) got 5 out of 10

yesterday it showed my outstanding balances at each site, but today doesnt seem to? (I'm probably doing something wrong :))

model releases I see as a problem, personally it would be nice to have a button that toggles all channels between unfinished area and full submit, that way for people shots can go to unfinished to have a model release added and simple click back for non people shots.

the other problem I see is the speed, it's all just happening a bit to slow at this stage.

I think it may have been asked already but what will happen when another site is added? it would be nice to have a system like it storing the filename and just point to a folder and it mass reuploads for submitting to the site?? (or some good method :))

do you have / can you let us know an idea of costing for the service? Working faster and the quirks sorted (I accept it is beta) I think it will be brilliant but I have concerns about the cost, Isyndica seemed good, just to expensive.

Rgds

edit: pictures were eventually distributed, but it took more than 48 hours to happen, there must be some issues since it used to take just a few minutes until a few days ago.

BTW, I applaud to Fotolia since obviously they do listen to what is going on here on MSG.

A few weeks ago I wrote a post saying that they should have "Delete" button in their upload queue, so people can delete their uploads even if they are already submitted for review. It reduces the amount of work for their reviewers, and works for both the contributors and the agency.
Now I see that the new  "Delete" link is added to the images in the approval queue.
Well done, guys!

I wish Tim / BigStock will follow. At the moment we can not delete images from BigStock approval queue.

Is it plans to make a release attachment? Unfortunately I found it's useless until it implemented.

Yes, it is planned.
Meanwhile, you can select "send to unfinished zone" to each channel (My Account -> Channels -> Preferences) and add the releases manually when the files are there.

David;  I have not had a chance to give this a try; one question.  When you select to do a upload to multiple sites; do we just upload to your site and you to the transfers or must our computer internet be connected for the entire time the images are sent to each individual site?  i am in Far East Russia so internet is not so reliable and a bit expensive to remain online for long periods.

You upload just once, to LightBurner. You do not have to wait while the images are distributed to the agencies, that's the whole idea of having a centralized distribution service.
LightBurner will distribute your portfolio wherever you select to, doing that in the background, so you do not have to wait for that or pay for that.
Once you assigned your images to the channels the distribution starts automatically.
Note, that the high-res images  will be removed after 4 days, so you have 4 days to select which image goes where.
