Yesterday, along with the new iPhones, Apple Watch was released.

Is it just me or is it truly impressive? Too many good things to mention, but the one thing that really appeals to me is that they made the effort to enable simpler, pictorial communication between two devices. It makes sense, the screen is too small for typing text. Plust the tapping thing. And the payment thing. The walkie talkie... etc etc.

Can't wait to get one. Which is funny, as I've been avoiding Apple products and the "Apple tax" for the past 6 years. But this is something else, it's their Apple Mac moment all over again, 30 years after 1984. On this one, I'll be happy to buy from Apple again. Anyone else?

Not to rain on your parade, but I find the Apple Watch ugly beyond believe.

Furthermore I just read that it is not a stand-alone product, but needs a connection to an IPhone for full functionality - which makes it a non-starter for me.

I find the design truly beautiful. Very sleek and modern. I would wear even if it's not apple watch. I'm certainly getting this next year.

I love the design. Can't wait to get one.

But I would probably buy a dustbin if it was designed by Jony Ive and explained to me with his cool, smooth voice...

I think it's amateurish, unattractive and overpriced.  Many people will buy it simply because it's Apple.  Or because they want to be 'first'.  Total waste of money.  Item will be worthless in a couple of years.

Wait for version two, probably in 2016, which should have a slightly larger curved screen and work as a stand-alone unit without needing a phone.

I tried to think why I should get one, and could not find any reason why I would buy one. I don't even use watches any more, why would I want a thing hanging from my wrist?

iPhone 6 looks nice... that I could buy... :)

Does it tell the time as well?
:)
A tech too far for me. Don't need or want that sort of monitoring. To be fair it's not aimed at old gits like me though.

I find it redundant, since it only works with an iPhone. So now you need to carry/wear two devices? Meh.

Until they release a usable MacPro for professional use and completely eliminate censorship from their software I refuse to touch any other Apple product. Beyond that: Samsung and others released something similar before....

Vendor lock-in, the reason I will never ever by an Apple product, not even if it cures cancer.

I'm not sure it will be "worthless in a couple of years", it might eventually become a collector's item. First edition of the first smartwatch that redefines things just like the Mac did. And just like it happened with the Mac, it will take time for the revolutionary impact to sink in. Apple are the only one that thought this through and don't treat the Watch as a scaled-down phone. The tactile, pictorial nature of it will develop and affect how we think and interact, just you wait! :)

It doesn't really appeal to me (although I said that when they produced the iPad and I wouldn't be without one now!). It's just another thing to keep the battery charging.

Good article on the Beeb's website on it;

I didn't think a smart phone was of much use until I bought one and started using it. I can't see going back to a flip phone for any reason. There will be dozens of competitive models released over the next few years if you don't like this one.

If you want "real" watch buy something with gears in it, something with a sound of ticking, something that lasts and you will be proud of even after 10 years. Will you get these features from this hyped overpriced iGadged? I refuse to belive so and will stick to my 12 years old but still beautiful Citizen watch :-) Sorry guys, I do not mean to flame but I cannot simple understand some products and the hype around it. Will we be soon buying super duper iTooth brush, iTrousers or iVacuum cleaner communicating with our iSmarthphones to be in and feel cool? Perhaps, perhaps we will :-)

I have a lot of Apple products and love most of them, most of the time, but I'm completely baffled by the idea that they or anyone else can get lots of people to wear a watch again. I haven't worn a watch in about over a decade and I can't imagine why, with my iPhone always in a pocket, I would have any use for a smart watch.

I know suppliers want to sell me a smart watch, curved TV ('cause 3D TVs went nowhere), an internet connected fridge, etc., but that's their need for cash talking (and I have and love my Nest thermostat; I'm not a technophobe :) )

I can definitely imagine using it for sport etc. Especially when running and exercising in general. Health and fitness is clearly going to be a big market. There are already very good iPhone apps aimed at sports such as the various couch to 5k programs - also Endomondo and the skiing and cycling trackers. Am also very interested in experimenting with developing for it. The latest version of Xcode 6 out today does not yet include support the watch as a development target.

Personally I love analog watches. My favourite timepiece currently is a steel 1961 Omega Constellation with a nicely stitched leather strap. Just spent all my pocket money having it serviced and cleaned. But I really like how understated it is compared with most mens' watches today. I cannot imagine that an Apple watch will still have any value or be worth servicing more than 50 years from now.

Wonder what the price on it will be. I was with them until I read that you needed an iphone too. Redundant, expensive...like someone said, I will wait until they make it so it's a watch/phone in one thing. But still, I imagine it will cost $500+.

Entry level will be $349. It was in the keynote.

I will wait until they make it so it's a watch/phone in one thing.

Personally I would not want to wear an RF device with the power of a cellphone against my body. Especially if I was in a weak coverage area and the thing was trying to get a signal. The watch by contrast is presumably bluetooth le which is very lower power.

Apple is so far behind the curve it is ridiculous.

Samsung had the watch last year and the new IP6!

At least two years behind the curve Samsung is the global world leader.

Android had what the IP6 had 2 years ago and Apple is acting as if it is new technology they have come out with .?????
