Oh, wow! Look at all the wonderful food ideas. Yum !

Martha, Beef Wellington sounds fantastic.

Wilm, I have heard of raclette before but thank you for your mouth-watering description. I would love to photograph something like that. Would make a great flatlay. And yes - the Rosemount wine! I forgot. We were supposed to 'share' that when I reached 100k DLs on SS this year. I was so busy and distracted at the time that I never posted it to SS forum.

Of course, Rosemount Estates is here in my home state, but Wilm - because our winery industry here is one of our big exports, I am always interested to hear how much you would pay for a bottle of that wine overseas?

Pete - thanks for the shrimp recipe!! Yum. We would call them prawns here - and do you remember the old Australian 'put a shrimp on the barbie' tourism ads with Paul Hogan??

Hello Annie,

the Rosemount Estate Shiraz is about $8 here, the Cabernet Sauvignon is $9.

But for you to just hide the 100,000 downloads is outrageous! You can't be that busy that you forget to post that!  :P

Congratulations on this well-deserved milestone! Super!  :)

You are cordially invited for raclette. And of course, feel free to take pictures. The tabletop is brand new and makes a very nice background. And: It's not far. Only 12,000 kilometers! We have a guest room for you... :)

Oh, thanks Wilm. Wouldn't that be wonderful if we could share the raclette. Thanks for the offer of the guestroom!!  ;)

That's not bad for the Rosemount. Our most expensive export wine, often bought by collectors, is our Penfolds Grange - starting at around $900 AUD (!!) a bottle. If you ever see that around, please let me know the price if possible?

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_529926/penfolds-grange-2012

I have drunk Penfolds more often. But I did not know the Grange yet.

The 2012 bin 95 costs here from $ 1,000 AUD.

The prices are very similar for the Henschke Shiraz. It depends on the vintage, of course.

And, Annie, the prices for the Rosemount I had written yesterday were $US. Sorry, I hadn't paid attention to that at all.

For Real: the 2016 St. Henri I get here for $ 190 AUD.

But is also not my price range...  ;D

Making a turkey on the kettle grill, at least starting it on the grill for the flavor. I shot that last year and it has sold in small numbers. Champagne, shrimp dip (top secret Mom's family recipe) Pumpkin pie, stuffing, some kind of inspired vegetable, like steamed squash? Just the two of us, which is just dandy. Packers play in the afternoon, while I'm cooking. Basic and simple... probably a fire in the pellet stove for a cozy evening.

Holiday Shrimp Spread  for Crackers

1/2 pound shrimp - fine chopped

1 t fine minced onion or scallions
1 t minced celery
1 t minced green pepper
1 t chopped parsley
1/2 t grated lemon rind or
1 t lemon juice (or both)
1/4 t salt
1/4 t ground pepper
1 dash of Tabasco

1/4 C  Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise

Let sit overnight in a covered crock in the refrigerator.

Soda crackers are best

Thanks, Pete, for the recipe. Looks yummy! I'll give it a try for New Year's.

Ho! Ho! Ho!!!

Just in case, the idea is chopped shrimp, not mashed. That's the most important part of the recipe, which leads to an attractive little treat. The rest is whatever you want it to be. Sometimes people think cracker spread and associate, a soft paste kind of thing. This is more of the chopped shrimp and minced seasoning kind of idea.

We have one bottle of Moet & Chandon Champagne Extra Brut Grand Vintage 2012, then we drop back to Freixenet Brut. The Moet is about 10 times more expensive. Once a year, one good bottle of a recent vintage champagne and it's fun.

I forgot to answer the DLs part.

Yeah, I reached it 3 months ago, late September. I knew it was coming up and one morning I opened up my SS dashboard and there it was. It had just ticked over to 100,002 or something.

But Sept and Oct were horrendously busy months. I was helping with my husband's accounting business and we were working really long days every day. No breaks. No days off.

But I printed it out and was going to frame it. (Which I still havent got around to doing)

when we skied in Switzerland or France & went out for raclette we were always told we had to have it with a particular white wine (which they just happened to have) and that otherwise the cheese would form an indigestible ball in the stomach!!

we were going to have wine anyway, so didn't need the upsell

often we'd go skiing the week before xmas & drive home xmas day with all traffic in other direction

if not skiing, for thankx & xmas we'd usually trade dinners w friends - turkey both times but different trimmings

Hello cascoly,

yes, the subject of wine & cheese is tricky.

In Roquefort in France they serve blue cheese with sweet white wine. The more intense, older and saltier the cheese, the sweeter the wine. An incredible combination, even if you don't like blue cheese like me.

White wine is often served with a cheese platter. Usually there is also fruit. Fruit, cheese and white wine is often a difficult combination. It can lead to problems.

I don't know whether white wine or red wine is the better choice though.

What I do know is that the Swiss drink mostly white wine with raclette - and also with cheese fondue. But tea is supposed to be even better than white wine, because it's supposed to be more digestible.

My personal conclusion: the raclette with the red wine was very tasty and is very good to us!  :)

Pete explained to me that Diamond Members are allowed to do this. I already knew that they also approve the first input of new members before it is published (Martha and Zero Talent approved my first answers  ;) ).
I don't know what the rights are to warn or remove someone from the forum.
That seems like a good system to me, but apparently removing a topic is not communicated on some internal site.

And now on to the new year!! Then everyone here eats oliebollen. The oliebollen stall had already been set up in our village. For people who don't know what oliebollen are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliebol

It is also difficult for administrators. You want to keep a discussion alive, but not turn it into something like twitter.
I could live with the fact that my first New Years wish topic was removed before the discussion got out of hand.
The second time surprised me.
What surprises me too, is that you can't see from each other who removes a topic and can't discuss it with each other (not on the forum of course).

But let's talk about the new year. No fireworks with us this year, which may be set off by private individuals. Fireworks shows continue. Things got out of hand with burning buildings and eye injuries.
Normally you can already hear firecrackers popping at Christmas and now it is wonderfully quiet.

Just for a matter of fact, since I know you're new and you've asked me some questions. In simple terms, this is Tyler's (Leaf) forum and he's the only one who can delete, archive, merge or alter things. Except for, move a topic or approve a new member post? (hopefully I didn't miss something unintentionally?)

There are no secret Admins and there's virtually no ongoing communication between Diamonds behind the scenes. Everyone here is mostly equal, not like super heroes with super powers. Just regular old and young, starving artists.  :)

I thought that other people might have the same questions as you did. We're all pretty much equal visitors here.

Won't be long and it's Happy New Year and there we are, into another season of Create, Upload, Wait for approval, and then watch and wait some more.  ;D

Thanks for the info Pete.

The funny thing is however that when my messages and account was deleted there was someone here, that with full conviction, stated that they didn't do it and that I deleted my own messages and account myself. That made me a bit suspicious. Also because I wrote to the forum about this and Tyler only responded there was some mishap but it didn't look like he did it himself.

It's a quarter to three here. So more than 9 hours. The people of Australia and New Zealand are already in the new year. I saw the fireworks in Sydney on the television from the park where we also have walked.
Happy New Year!!!!

Firn

Only a couple of hours left here in Germany.
It's the time I dread the most all year, because one of my dogs freaks out because of the fireworks. I hope this year won't be as bad as the sale of fireworks was forbidden in Germany again, just like last year, but people still manage to obtain them from somewhere or mybe have them stocked up. But so far it has been relatively calm, with only a few fireworks here and there. Before the sale was forbidden because of Covid it used to be like a warzone out there all day.
