Only a couple of hours left here in Germany.
It's the time I dread the most all year, because one of my dogs freaks out because of the fireworks. I hope this year won't be as bad as the sale of fireworks was forbidden in Germany again, just like last year, but people still manage to obtain them from somewhere or mybe have them stocked up. But so far it has been relatively calm, with only a few fireworks here and there. Before the sale was forbidden because of Covid it used to be like a warzone out there all day.

In the Netherlands it is also banned (except fireworks shows of course), because it got worse every year and the hospitals are already full enough.
I've heard enough bangs in military service, but I like a fireworks show. At my parents' house we had a dog, who immediately crawled under the bed with every bang, because fireworks had once been thrown at him.
We celebrate it quietly with the two of us. My wife behind the TV and I behind the computer.  ;D But soon a glass of wine with an oliebol or apple turnover.

Happy New Year!.

Wish it was under better circumstance business wise and with Covid and the economy.  2021 was worse than 2020, let's see what 2022 has to offer.

Happy New Year everyone. We're already 9 hours into the new year here in Eastern Australia, New York is still living in 2021 for another 7 hours.  ;D

Here in the southern Rocky Mountains, we've got 2 1/4 hours more to go before 2022 lands on our doorstep.

I'll watch the "doings" out of New York City 1/4 hour from now and then like the old lady that I am hit the sack.

Over the decades, I've partied through many New Year's Eve celebrations, including the very first one that my brand-new husband and I hosted to welcome in 1970. These days, there's no thrill for me in staying up until midnight.

No regrets here about saying goodbye to 2021, but it's hard not to be just a wee bit nervous about what 2022 will bring.

Still I wish everybody on this forum a happy, healthy, safe, and prosperous 2022!

What do Bots celebrate on New Years, a fresh breeze from a cooling fan?

Haven't had one single sale this year.  :-[

I knew that would come up... and look, I already made a whole 10 cents. This is exciting!

Here's to your 2022 being wonderful.

Thanks Uncle Pete, funny enough I have had only one sale and it was on Dreamstime for 35 cents. ;D I don't even count Dreamstime in my earnings as it  barely makes a couple of dollars a month.

With 5 days of January done, this has been the slowest start to the new year for two of my major sites: Shutterstock and Adobe.

Granted this is only the third new year I've been in this but even when I had waaaaay less assets on SStock in January 2020, I was still 6 cents in front then than what I am now in 2022.

Having said this, I'm still hopeful as it's very early days and I've been busy uploading these past few weeks.

I'm not on SS, so I can't speak to that. But on AS, I've had a very nice run of sales, including some images that have never sold before, just in the last two days.

SS indeed very slow and most 0,10. AS not very good, but better.

May I say, and hopefully not offend anyone?

A watched pot never boils.  :)  Which for me means, watching day by day, Microstock earnings, especially in January, isn't going to make anyone very happy. OK it's going to be downright depressing, if you care?

In the past, we've had "what's the worst month of the year" opinion polls, and for most people, it was either January or June. Like everything, it depends on what we create and what we have made and what's in demand, but January isn't the best or favorite month for many people.

From my data over six years, the year looks like a sine wave.  It rises from January to February, starts a long decline to June, then climbs until September and October, then declines again until January.

So I'd say my worst months are typically January and June, and my best September or October.

As you know, my port isn't that big yet and there isn't much to say about the best month yet. Also because photos are still being uploaded. Only now it's extra frustrating for Shutterstock if I don't sell much in January, because I want to get out of those low levels!!!  >:( In that respect, smart (mean!!!) from Shutterstock.
It is addictive to keep checking to see if something has been sold. Two years ago I was happy if there was one photo in one day. Now I am dissatisfied. But gambling addict is worse shall we say.

For Adobe, I can now upload photos for editorial use only. I had forgotten for a while to see if I already had permission for that. Nice, because at the moment there is not much to photograph (too little light and too much rain)

I hadn't sold anything at Alamy for two months. To my surprise, January 1st (when I wasn't expecting anything) I sold a photo for $5. Still, I don't know if I'm going to continue with Alamy. Luckily nothing has been sold in China for a few cents yet.

Adobe is Illustrative Editorial, unless something changed, they don't take News Editorial yet. But yes maybe someone else will notice they have access now as that has opened up to more people over the year. It was silver and now it's anyone with over 100 downloads.  https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/illustrative-editorial-content.html

Right it is frustrating, but it's January?  ;)

Way back, someone created some software that would check every few minutes, to see if there was a sale on any of the sites, and then report back. I can't say for sure, but if you imagine thousands of Microstockers running that app and checking their sites, every few minutes, all day, all night, it could bring the system down? Needless to say, the agencies blocked that software.

But the reason I mentioned it is, sure thing, you wouldn't have to go click through all your agencies, it's automatic. And of course people check and check. That's perfectly natural. Did my latest upload get accepted? Did I make a sale... I try to control my urge to do that, but first thing every morning I look. I mean before I start Thunderbird.

Just like the "are sales reported in real time" because we need to know right now!  ;D

That must have been back a few years ago when many more could still do this for a living, I used to have the SS app on my phone and it was kinda fun to see the sales alerts go off, now I just check every 2-3 days on my PC to see if I made 10 cents or $1.70.   If this was still a viable way to make a living then it wold be fun and more motivating to have instant sales alerts, I remember being out on the road and filming and the alerts would go off and it was a great feeling.

I wrote it wrong Pete. Why didn't they make Dutch a world language? That was much easier for me.   :(

That's what I meant. Everything with recognizable people is still not going. I've put up a few pictures, which have already been accepted.

That photo of the letterbox is doing it on Shutterstock. It was two cards with congratulations for our grandchildren, who received a swimming diploma and we couldn't come because corona had just broken out. Seems like a century ago. But I still made some money from it.

Yeah nit picking, but at least someone reading would get the idea that Adobe does take some Editorial images, if they don't have people in them? SS rejects photos with cars, AS doesn't. Good luck.

I just looked at a list of 100 common Dutch words. I know none of them.  ;) But I do know what a Klompen Clog is, I can't understand how anyone would say they are comfortable. Maybe I should try and see before I prejudge? And I had some Oliebollen for the first time, last Summer, with raisins. Pretty good.

You mean Klompen. I don't have them anymore. On the farm where I grew up, we all had clogs. If the top broke off, my father repaired it with a special iron band, which you could buy for that. My brother-in-law (unfortunately passed away last year) always walked on it, even on birthdays.

We had bought the oliebollen this year. Usually my wife makes them herself.

...
I get cars accepted as commercial on SS as long as I remove license plate & model names & car isn't the main item - eg winter driving, parked cars, etc.  even police cars & armored cars w only the license plates gone

Yes and others do too, it was a broad generalization of one of the differences. Every agency seems to have their own version of the laws and their rules. The lower we go down the stock agency food chain, the less restrictions there are for what's acceptable and what's editorial. You have mentioned maps before.

SS who knows but last I got was, we no longer accept this kind of material. IS must be before 1900, AS before 1927, DT I don't know how picky they are.

An adaptation of a work in the public domain may have copyright protection on its own as a new version of a work. Adaptations include translations, amended versions and annotated versions. So we can adapt, revise and make transformative works, which are now protected as a new work.

I always thought of Editorial as "it is what it is" News, Educational, 1st amendment rights, until someone came up with Illustrative Editorial. The whole license plates, address numbers and identification seems to be new also. I suspect the license plate part came about because of privacy where people didn't want to be identified as being someplace on a specific date or time. Maybe because there didn't want anyone to know there were there.

Anyway, yes AS does take illustrative editorial for people with over 100 DLs.

Oops, left out the M. So they aren't as terribly uncomfortable as they appear to be? There's a local who makes them and sells at the craft fairs. He's got the augers and chisels and everything old and authentic.

Nice idea that klompen are made in America. They are being used less and less than in the past.

If you were used to clogs, it was not that bad. I scanned all the old family photos from Mother's shoebox.
I think I was about eight (now 72) in this photo. Here I am in clogs, with a whip and a top.
