You can also double your uploads by uploading an image with the original sky and an edited version with a different sky. Never had an issue nit having both accepted. Changing a sky takes seconds on Luminar. You can use their stock skies or just use your own sky, handy to have a collections of your own skies for this.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Gettyimages invites everyone to try to go exclusive. Who is interested?« on: November 03, 2022, 14:45 »
Who would actually go out their way to shoot something specific they are told to for stock money? I think its far more productive to shoot 100 road signs in a shorter time and make more money from that, than to follow a lead given by iStock or any micro stock company

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS continues to deteriorate« on: October 31, 2022, 16:11 »
Shutterstock made me more money this month than Adobe, doesn't happen often, usually only when you get a $30 photo sale....SS $130 Adobe 121 and iStock $85, Alamy 40, all the rest were pennies......ref SS rejections I try to avoid uploading at weekends, AI rejections seem to be at full force on a sat or sun, so upload on a Monday and seems much better....

April $160 and May $80.....I don't think you can compare months as buyers are not looking for the same type or number of images each month

My iStock earning is 3 x SS and Adobe in March, most the money is from subscription based sales.

My SS is down 65% this year and iStock usually my best earner is down 30% while Adobe has doubled.

Just ensure your expenses outweigh any earnings and therefore pay no tax

I actually made more money on level 1 on first couples months of the year than I have on level 4 at later part of the year. It is just luck of the draw who buys what, levels don't really help to a big extent at all, I certainly still have as many 10 cent sales on level 4.

I still find istock brings in the most money then Shutterstock, followed by Adobe. I just look at the end of month earnings not individual sale values. You will still get loads of 10 cent sales on Shutterstock at Level 6.
Don't see the point of stopping to upload to any agency myself as I use Microstock Plus uploader, my weekly uploading takes 20mins whether I upload to one agency or 50 agencies. Never create new keywords etc as just copy paste from previous photos. 115

As I only started 4 years ago I haven't suffered like most, my monthly earning grow $100 a month each year, currently around $450 a month and I only spend 3 hrs a week doing this, uploading 25 photos a week, no more and never any less. 3hrs work for over $100 isn't too bad.

Ive used Affinity Photo ever since Adobe started the subscription plan for photoshop and I find it does everything photoshop does for what I require and much much more. I don't like it for RAW, for that I used Iridient Developer.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Sole Trader or Limited Company« on: February 08, 2021, 16:07 »
Hey,
Thanks for all the replies, it seemed to have snowballed! Sorry I should of said I am in the UK (Scotland), so yes pay 41% tax on my main job income. I believe sole trader is the way to go for my circumstance, I didn't realise the cost of a limited company. Easy for me to say as I have never done it but after watching a YouTube video on how to fill out a UK self assessment tax form it appears quick and easy. Next tax year I estimate earnings of 4.5k to 5k from stock photography (can't believe I have gone from. a fine art photographer to someone who takes photos of road signs!) and as most of my work is done from driving about all weekend I plan to offset the taxable earnings by around half with car expenses (using the set rate of 45p / mile), broadband contract monthly fee and mobile phone monthly fee. Anyway after my 3rd year my earnings shot up so now is the time to start doing the right thing. If anyway else does this as a second job from their main job, I assume after your self assessment you can just pay it off in one go and it has no affect on your main income PAYE tax code and it is kept separate all together? 124
Newbie Discussion / Sole Trader or Limited Company« on: February 07, 2021, 17:19 »
Hi,
I was wondering what people in similar situation to myself do in terms of declaring tax if they are doing this as a second job to their main job which you pay 40% tax on your salary. Whether you just do an online self assessment as a sole trader or have set up a limited company and pay an accountant to do your return and only pay the 19% tax? From what I have read online a limited company involves a bit of paperwork only an accountant can do which you would have to pay for but on the flip side you only pay 19% tax as opposed to a sole trader I would have to pay 40% due to my main income salary of my main job (loosing 40% of such a small side income would be very painful!). Thanks, appreciate any replies. 125
Shutterstock.com / Re: SS sales January« on: February 07, 2021, 17:11 »
Jan 2020 - $125 / 135 sales
Jan 2021 - $76 / 222 sales Plus if doing this as a side hustle to a decent paid main job in the UK, you loss 40% of that to the taxman lol |
