I feel that, SS should implement these to increase there sales.

1- Allowing contributors to convert they earning to buy subscription from SS platform.

2- Deleting never-sold content. Images which never had any sales in 4-5 years should be deleted to improve the quality of their library.

3- Adding exclusive joining of contributors.

4- Customer downloads should have an expiry of images if not used... like 1 year or so.

5- Improving their search engine and adding more tabs like Trending, Popular (in week, month, 6 month) etc.

6- Taking feedbacks from buyers and seller both.

Whats your opinion guys?
What they need to do is apply the "cap" more consistently and not just on a few random victims ;-). If they improved their quality control and search algorithms that would "fix" most things if poor images never surfaced in searches they wouldn't matter. If they brought in exclusivity that would be a huge potential game changer depending on how attractive it was but ultimately not in a good way for contributors.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Selling Stock on Your Behalf
« on: September 10, 2018, 04:59 »
I earn little enough without paying any more costs. So no to both. I think there would also be questions of copyright as many agencies require the submitter to own the copyright and I'm not giving that away. I would also want some pretty strong assurances about my control over my images and the trustworthiness of any such organisation.

The agency newsletters and blogs are always pushing trends so they must think it's a good thing as regards to buyers needs, not something you want to totally ignore.
They do but I think its more important to keep aware of whats going on in the "outside" world....for example if you do food what ever the latest emerging "superfood" is newly fashionable travel destinations  what the emerging technologies are etc. Google analytics can only analyze the past...predicting the future is more productive but harder of course

Hey fellow stock grinders,

I just put together this article on using Google Trends and would be curious to know if anybody here it or anything similar to find what's trending/may trend using their trending algos via Google web searches? Link to post:

Looking forward to a fruitful discussion.

It is! the whole market is a flea-market only some fleas are more expensive then others like the RM-flea! yeah we're burning black candles in the Q cult, didnt you know! :P

Good news, Derek!

Your idol and chief conspiracy theorist , grand master of the "Q"Anon cult, has announced a big campaign against "rigged search results"

The reviews are up to 3 days or more which is now the complete reverse of recent instant or an hour or two reviews.

Its obvious they haven't got a handle on this.

What is infuriating is the amount of crap they let through still
The review process in my opinion is the weakest aspect of Shutterstock.....and they have a lot of weaknesses ;-). But their biggest strength happens to be the most important one....they make the most money for most contributors  ???

Not any more they don't after hitting a peak in early 2016 the revenue I get basically flat lined and hasn't grown at all

I get more money from other sources

As to reviews being their biggest weakness well they have plenty more fighting for that honor.
For you maybe but never the less  what little evidence  there is is that for most people they still generate the most income. They do for me but it looks like adobe are on a gradual upward path. I don't dislike SS but a bit more healthy competition for them would be no bad thing.

Well, the cap theory is a feasible scenario of which there is no evidence for or against. But just thinking about that bothers many contributors and whenever they talk about it on the forum, most of the comments are hateful and violent.
There is no single cap theory but many variations some more plausible than others. Similarly there are varying degrees of evidence. Everyone has made up their mind now and unless Shutterstock confirm its existence no one is going to change their minds and if SS did announce a cap it would make no difference.

I sometimes wonder if I am selling to a different SS than the rest of you whiners...?

1) I DO get rejections of submissions. Not a lot, but then I don't put up a lot of junk either.  My last batch of 126 images had 9 rejections today (all for "main subject not in focus" or "noise" -- a couple were a bit crunchy...).

2) I DO get sales on new images.  I uploaded a batch of Namibia photos last week of lions, elephants, and the like.  I had 21 sold from that batch just in the last 2 days.

3) My sales DO drop every summer. August is always bad for me. But then it roars back in September and is good the rest of the year.

4) I DO sell most of my portfolio.  Two months ago, I had 2500 images in my portfolio. According to MicroStokr Pro, 1729 of those images have had sales.  (I added another 1000+ in the last 2 months, as I went back and added stuff I had overlooked in my older stuff on my disk -- and yes, those are starting to sell too)

Maybe you know something we dont??? ;D ;D

Yep, he knows what sells and you don't. As simple as that!  :P

If it helps, here are my answers to the above points:
1. I DON'T
2. I DO
3. Not really
4. I DO (~86%)

Wow mate!!  got to hand it to you! youre in a different league to the rest of us ::)  youre not from Ukraine or Moldova by any chance are you?

You little cute xenophobe, you!  :-*
No, I'm not from Moldova, nor Ukraine, nor from any of those countries you constantly belittle in this forum.

I am obviously in the same league as mindstorm and many others. A league you can only dream about.  :P

 ;)

No you are from Ukraine, so what I've been there and its a nice country and I dont understand why you put it down?? I joined SS in 2005, long before you and that says it all!
Youre league is ONLY micro-stock and that also says it all!
I know who you are behind that pseudo and you know who I am.

If you are doing so well in micro-stock! fine! but when people start dodging their origin, their countries well that makes me suspiscious. tsk, tsk!

Do you even know what this forum is about, let alone this topic? Check the URL: It says microstockgroup.com. Please check the topic: it is just about SS.

So yes, I am clearly doing much better than you on micro. My suspicion is that I'm doing much better than you overall, but we can never know that, can we?

PS. If you think that I'm dodging my country when you claim that I'm from Moldova or Ukraine, you are clearly mistaken. Just for the record, since I guess I already mentioned it on this forum: I am from USA. Can you believe it? tsk, tsk, tsk...

Not unless you do commissioned work 3-4 days every week and with a turnover of 154.000 pound/sterling per annum and 2 employees from commissions only,  Yes if you are doing better then I congratulate you and say I am sorry for arguing with you! :)
What really puzzles me though is for such a successful person you still sell on a site whose owner you despise.

Wrong! both myself, Laurin and fuego know Jon personally, not like pals but personally but Jon isnt running things anymore and havent been doing that for over a year and a half as if you couldnt work that out, sure! his got big stakes in the company but he aint running it. So how could I despise him. His been good to us. Shareholders have the power and they appoint anyone they want to!
and who owns most of the shares? and who is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board?

Well I suppose it either means they are going to wind it down or actually relaunch with something decent. Either way I guess its better than the current "Walking Dead" site.

In the meantime, Istock collection size and scope is diminishing every day against their competitors.

In any case it still surprises me that non exclusives supply to an agency that gives a 15% (photo) 20%(video) back to contributors when there are much better alternatives. Definitely many creative people are not the smartest and some agencies just take advantage of it......
Its cash that counts....while it is irksome that they grab so much 15% of 1,000 is still better than 50% of 100. Its a business/ethics decision nothing to do with being "smart".

Freedom of the press should be and for only honest opinions and truth not fake news!
As soon as someone decides they can regulate for that then its not a free press.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How was your August?
« on: September 02, 2018, 01:42 »
Not a bad month with SS doing well but only because of high value sales dodged a bullet maybe...Adobe trending slowly upward. The smaller sites continuing their decline. For me SS/Abode/I stock and the occasional boost from Alamy make them the only sites that are realistically worth any of my time.

The good news is that they turned off the cap on my account this month!

Not so much caps as pointy witches hats :o

1044
I guess the potential issue is if you refer someone and they down load your enitre portfolio or maximum allowance then split the profit? I'm sure if than happened there would be consequences. Agencies actually want people to buy large subs packages and download as little as possible ;-).

Just got the Getty one for a shoot "In your region". We haven't finalised Brexit yet and the UK is already a region of the US  :o

"Market's go in cycles, and tend to be cyclical. Start, go up, way up, plateau, decline, go way down, then start over again.". Not those that are technology based which essentially Mstock is. At best you might get some kind of small retro cult...like camera film, vinyl records etc. Anyone waiting for the renaissance of the Mstock market is very optimistic.

123RF / Re: Sales down to 25%
« on: August 30, 2018, 01:55 »
Here is how my performance is going on 123
Mine is very similar pattern ....but on a smaller scale....the whole site seems a mess and no one seems to care.

1049

I'm thinking so ... they used to reject a fair load of my stuff but, I'm thinking I should just dump my whole library on them and let them figure it out. lol.

Go through and see what of your old rejects might have some potential, upload them now. I did a small number, and one actually has sales. The rest  were so bad, they turned my stomach and I couldn't do that to make my portfolio more  embarrassing. LOL  :)
I did that but simply threw the lot against the wall to see what stuck 90% accepted and pretty reasonable sales..

When I started, I took some really nasty crapstock. Of course back then, Upload on Thursday, accepted by Tuesday, sales by the end of the week. Maybe I could upload them as Blurred Background?  ;)

I had most of them accepted at places like 123, BS, Panther, Lucky Oliver, the small sites, at which time I thought "OK I have an idea, I'll upload to FT, IS and SS"

Ha Ha, rejected, nearly all. I had to take the test again for SS, but passed once I realized sharp, good contrast, clean, focused. Plus (another back then) downsized and submitted a variety of shots and styles. Passed in a breeze.

The second part isn't about quality but content, and I don't need to waste time on filler, to make numbers, if they won't every sell. I have a good collection of those too.

So when I actually do find something old, if it might have potential, based on content, I'll consider that. If it's something that's destined to languish everywhere, never sell, because of a poor choice of subject, I let it die.  :)

Numbers don't mean anything anymore. Besides I used to only upload one or two of any idea, rarely more. There are some old timers who have 800 of the same shot, with different backgrounds. Oh boy, and wonder why sales per image aren't any good?
IS were really really tough but I learnt a huge amount from those frustrating rejections....people new to the game learn nothing now and just wonder why their images aren't selling even though the sites seem to welcome them with open arms and tales of how they will earn big money.

Kodak has gone too

No Kodak is still going but it's not an agency anyway
Wasn't the "Kodak" Blockchain thing still born? I expect there will be a lot of exciting blockchain ventures that never see a sale.
