Just curious, did you resubmit any of the stuff that were previously rejected? a mix...mostly new...a few that made it through the last round because they've been selling elsewhere

i feel your pain Herg.. and sorry if this is turning into the rejects piss and moan thread but not only is the 30 day wait time annoying but it bugs me that you can resubmit something that go a '7 out of 10 must be approved' only to have the next reviewer shoot it down. really a mixed message when you're trying to understand what they're looking for. the keywording/categorizing is so labor intensive. i've actually read (i think somewhere in this forum) that someone resubmitted a '7 out of 10' and when they came back rejected the 2nd time he/she contacted support and they approved them. well... keep at it. if nothing else, its helping me fine tune my skills and turning me into a maniac

i've had several rejections on my mission to get accepted as a contributor at SS. had no problem at DT or Fotolia.. so this week i tried to put my attention on what exactly am i doing wrong and what exactly are they looking for. i began randomly browsing people portfolios, sorting from the oldest to most recent. i am AMAZED at some of the stuff thats in there. those brilliantly set up shots we see on the front pages were no where to be found. for the most part, i found drab images that i cant believe have any commercial value. i found soooo many shots with horrid lighting mistakes..awful shadows and highlights. i found tons of shots with shallow dof in annoying areas; meanwhile i've been having my work critiqued and have become obsessive with getting perfect dof/focus. i saw a shot of an undramatic sky with a powerline not cloned out... soooo what? apparently the bar has been raised in the last year or so.. because a lot of this older stuff is shameful.

my equipment is fine.. canon 60d, various lenses. i also know my way around photoshop pretty well.
where i fall short is in understanding lighting. in my crits over at SS its been drawn to my attention that i tend to shoot with a shallow dof, which even though i do intentionally, isnt a great idea on gettin my 1st approval.
what i find frustrating about the process, is im advised everywhere i read to understand what microstock is looking for. but when one reviewer accepts an image and other reviewer (a month later on the same site) rejects it, it becomes very confusing.
btw, im currently seeing a few sales on other sites i.e. dreamstime, fotolia and am building my portfolio (at about 80 something right now). I've posted my link here and have gotten positive feedback as well. But SS seems to be my nemesis.

How about doing this for several of your strong images: pick 2 or more crucial words from title/keywords and see what images come up. Does your image fit that crowd love that advise Ann... i've actually never tried to search my images or those similar fxegs.. good luck to you in your ss quest. you right i do tend to filter..i really enjoy the post production process. i have a graphic design/art background and this is an extension of that. although i know, especially for the initial contributor submissions, i need to show off my photo skills not my ability to finese an 'ok' shot with filters and photoshop. I think this is why the process is so tricky for me.

Hi folks, Im coming up on my next round to submit to SS for first time approval.. I've been rejected (can you believe) 5 times. In each previous batch I had 3 - 5 images come back with the explanation '7 out of 10 needs to be approved', which i understand means they were technically approved. how ill-advised would it be for me to go pull some these and resubmit them? i've been told to submit new each time but im trying to play it safe. Especially because some of these shots are selling on other sites. thanks

im trying to build up my portfolio and as i do im seeing i have little insight to what will be approved or rejected. wondering how the ratio between refused/approved images affects my exposure on these sights. i generally upload everything i think is good but im wondering if being more selective (perhaps getting critiques first) is wiser; but there again this slows the process down incredibly. advice?

Thanks cclapper...that is very encouraging... and to be honest, i dont know a thing about lightboxes, nor did i know that the social aspect of microstock played a factor in exposure. interesting..

I folks...im new here (obviously) and am an avid (nearly obsessive) amateur photographer. About 9 months ago I started submitting to several agencies. currently, dreamstime, fotolia, depositphotos, and can stock. I am repeatedly turned down by shutterstock. Im off to a pathetically slow start in earnings and would like to get more serious about getting views/downloads. I typically shoot what I like (vacations, landscapes) and then try to throw other things that I hope will gain attention. I was hoping for some of you more seasoned photographers would take a look at my portfolio and just give a general look to give me some tips on what I can do to improve my portfolio quality/exposure. Where do I need improvement? is it my photo skills? the variety of shots i take? my keywording? lol all the above. http://www.dreamstime.com/Littleny_infoThanks Lisa
