I may be completely wrong, but reply does not seem very professional.

One of "liveness" signs for a site is review time. My photos are "under review" since 12/10...

153
I'd start with IS
- tough entry will test your willing to go to microstock
- most consistent reviews - good for training

Next - SS. It gives very nice bust to earnings.

After you are confident with your wish and skills - extend to other sites, but not DT for now:
- longest waiting period for removal
- strongest dependency approval rate -> sales

Wait for up to one year and see if exclusivity makes sense for you, if you do not want to go with IS only - upload to DT ones that are are approved on both IS and SS

This is scenario _I wish_ I started my journey :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Nikon to Canon or Canon to Nikon
« on: January 15, 2010, 10:35 »
There is another thing also - "hand memory" and menu items/locations. It is much harder to switch between brands than between different models of the same brand.
Even for SLR <-> PS I sometimes had troubles finding how to setup my wife's Canon PS (changed it to Nikon too recently)

« on: January 14, 2010, 10:55 »
Latest I found - all porcupines and hedgehogs on IS have bristles, not quills or spines.
Looks like IS literally translated their names and decided that they are pigs :)

I also think that you'll get used to seeing f-stop and shutter speed on the rear LCD very quickly if you go with the D5000.

For me D90 won mainly because of commander mode of internal flash - for D5000 I'd need to by SU-800 == bring them on the same price level.

157
What lens would you recomend for an all around lens? The one that mainly is all attached to that camera for all those on the spot candid shots.

My new favorite all-around one is less expensive Nikon 16-85. It is quite slow, but the range is perfect, and it is pretty sharp

Adobe Stock / Re: 2010 Fotolia Tax coming !!
« on: January 07, 2010, 23:41 »
What? Did you actually read any of this thread before posting? FT has been deducting taxes from our earnings, that's what all the complaining is about, and the subject of this thread! Your response makes no sense. ???

Perhaps I missed something (your post?). I do not see any withholding on my (rare) sales, though I already got couple "tax" messages.

Sorry for possible misleading, my reply was from my understanding of IR code, not from one of FT practices.

Adobe Stock / Re: 2010 Fotolia Tax coming !!
« on: January 07, 2010, 10:20 »
BUT how will we (meaning those of us from the US) find out the total $ paid to the IRS so we can deduct that amount from our 2010 income tax payments? Employers send W-2 forms, will Fotolia send us W-2's in January 2010? It should count as part of our income taxes.

They are not deducting any taxes for US, it is your responsibility - I expect they will just send a copies of 1099 to IRS and to you as SS does.

What I do not understand is why they are asking for W-9 again? I believe (though I may be wrong, I've already demonstrated my perfect memory on other thread :) ) that I already submitted it last year. Employers do not ask W-9 every year, only when they hire you/

Thanks!!!

For somebody who is late for the party: where on IS can I opt out? I cannot find anything...

Mostphotos.com / Re: Who has had sales at MostPhotos?
« on: December 30, 2009, 17:35 »
Since it's been quiet over the holidays I've clicked their "What's Selling" tab a few times to see what pops up. The images change every day which I thought was great, sales are happening. Then I noticed a few images appearing every other day - great again because this must mean multiple sales of those images....but no, only one sale. So why do these images keep appearing in "What's Selling" when they've only sold once.

Try to refresh - you do not need to wait next day. Looks like they just randomly select from pics with at least 1 sale - perhaps fresh sales are not enough for  page...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Insurance?
« on: December 29, 2009, 19:53 »
Here is the best by far insurance coverage for Photographers and very reasonable. They have been involved in the professional photography business for years. Here is the link  www.tcpinsurance.com/ Look into E&O ( Errors and Omissions ) insurance added to your package. We have a one million dollar coverage for our location shoots just in case of injury or damages. Actually it might be 2 mil. I will have to check with my wife, the boss : )

Are you sure E&O is right one? According to TCP site, E&O "Protects you against losses from copyright infringement, trademark, trade name, title, slogan, false advertising, idea misappropriation, invasion of privacy or publicity right, or defamation arising out of any photographic or digital visual imagery services"

Microstock Services / Re: Which third party tools do you use?
« on: December 27, 2009, 13:39 »
Keywording - Yuri's tool (perhaps it is not fair to author to call it Yuri's), Cushy (keyword editing), Bridge (fixes for occasional problems)
Upload - Cushy for shutter (small batches), DeepMeta for IS, Filezilla for others
Analysis - Excel + statsmicro.com (at this moment latter is personal tool, closed for registration)

Question to iSyndica users: what do you see as benefits of the site over PicNiche or StockMon + FileZilla?

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Be aware
« on: December 07, 2009, 22:44 »
I was assured by Fotosearch that there is a procedure in place for removal of portfolio from all sites once a month.

Unfortunately for some reason the end site (SPP) was not aware of this procedure.

170
Just some words of caution

If you submit to CanStockPhoto, your images are available on Fotosearch
Fotosearch images are sold by subscription at StockPhotoPro

If you close your CanStockPhoto account, images disappear from Fotosearch, but not from SPP - and there are _no means_ to delete from there, other than manually searching for all images and requesting deletion individually.

Update: please see later post, problem has been resolved. Sorry for using MSG as a muscle, but it works :)

171
Whatever we say about calibration, it does not seem that IS thinks it is important.
Example:

Left is IS, right - DT (and this way it looks on all other sites)

I did have a pending balance of about $40 there and just sent a note to request it. If I get any action I'll let you know either way.

Thanks for a good tip. I contacted them too, and just got email that they sent me the payment

http://imagecatalog.com :

"Image Catalog is Now Closed

Thank you to all the members who have supported us over the years! "

yet another ~$50 minus....

(I was not sure what section I could use for this post)

Steps taken here:

1) Make decision to close account.
2) Contact Zym to close account.
3) Promptly forget you closed your account.
4) Zym closes account.
5) wait 6 months.
6) try to log in to Zym

 ;D

More like 6 days, not months.....
