so your point is that all of us should leave iStock? good one
If ALL of us would do that, it would be a very good thing. The buyers would be smart enough to find our new stuff on other sites. I wonder if it would be possible to organize a "don't upload to iStock for a month" -month, and how many of contributors would join? This could be doable especially with their current limitless uploading (you can always upload your stuff next month:)) If the uploads suddenly went down - let's be optimistic and say - 70% for a month, maybe people at iStock would start to understand something. That they WORK FOR US and THEY EXIST ONLY BECAUSE WE ALLOW THEM TO EXIST. Of course they have a track record of not understanding things...

I'm trying to figure out the license... Picfair's license is for one use only, not quite RF... does this mean I can upload my Alamy "L" images...

I managed a BME which was nice to see Nice to hear someone is doing fine, it gives hope for the whole industry. My month has been a disaster, about -30% down from last years october. The year started nicely, but after summer things have been horrible...

Hieman kyllä kiinnostaisi kokeilla, on vain liian hektistä elämä juuri nyt ja ei millään ehdi/jaksa...

Personally, in Canon RAW I use a sharpening strength of 3.
I do the same. No other sharpening. If an image is a bit soft, then I sharpen and downsize. I never submit full-size sharpened photos. It also helps to have sharp lenses (I shoot only with primes), less need for sharpening. Of course you have to shoot sharp images also (fast shutter speeds, strobe, tripod, good focus)

I upload to the sites with best earnings, and also to all low earners that have a easy upload (only a few clicks to get my monthly batch uploaded). The funny thing is, that agencies go up and down, and to bet on the right agency can be a very difficult task. For example one particular agency has made me about $5 or $10 per month, but for the latest months it has for some reason generated me between $100 and $150 per month. I find it a good thing to be submitting my work there... I won't be saying here what agency that is, I don't want you all to rush uploading there Now I have three "secret" sites http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/do-you-have-%28microstock%29-secrets/

I just put as many keywords I find relevant. For some images it's only 10, for some 25 and for some 47.

Stockfresh ain't a big hassle, FTP everything and then a single click everyday until you finish all your uploads
Yes, but I would rather go there only one day of the month...

in a hurry to upload to Stockfresh and Crestock?
Not really They are only places to dump my images to get a few extra dollars, but they are making it just too difficult.

Everything that is zeros and ones can be manipulated, including raw-files.

When I'm making new images, I'm only submitting them to a few sites straight away. The rest of the sites I upload only in the end of the month. What really bugs me is the sites with daily (or weekly) upload limits. For example Stockfresh allowd me to upload only 50/day. I think they should move to a monthly limit, or at least a weekly limit. How about 300 images/week or 1000 images/month would sound?
The other ridiculous example is Crestock, how can they afford to have upload limits (I think it's 75/week) and yet they seem to take months to review my images...
All sites with daily upload limits, could you consider a weekly limit instead? And those with weekly limit, could you consider a monthly limit? This would help contributors that upload in bulk, and also new contributors.

What makes an image Lifestyle?
What makes an image 'authentic'? Meaningless marketspeak, probably, like 'real people, real places', which means nothing much. A model in a studio is a real person in a real place.
A model that looks like a model in a setting that looks like a studio backdrop isn't a "real person in a real place", I don't know anyone hanging around on a seamless backdrop in their spare time. Authentic = Real looking people, real settings and places. Doing things people really do. Light looks like it's either from nature (=sun) or real lighting of the place. Candid, not posed.

Sor for anybody who wants to sell such content, exclusivity at iStock does not work - because it's artist exclusivity, not image exclusivity.
+1

Axel, I fully applaud your stance regarding not wanting to rip photographers off but I am rather confused.
You don't want to buy using exploitative sub model but you sell on the largest sub site there is?
How is that confusing? I submit my images to iStock, but I wouldn't never ever buy there (or recommend the site for anyone)
Rather hypocritical don't you think? Your images are good enough to sell there but you are too good to buy there? Why wouldn't you buy from there?
I don't think I'm being hypocritical. I'm open and honest about this. Why do you think I should buy at IS? Or recommend them to someone? Because they treat their contributors nicely? They pay their contributors well? They don't even have a slick, working site...

Haha... I was hoping for a brand new, fast site. All I got was a new logo.
At least it's fast.
At least it has got dots. (Need to rebrand my avatar soon!)

There are propably about 1,000,000 posts on the internet that are anti-iStock. By changing the name they will wash away all the bad stuff. Clever.

It's a bit comforting that most of us are having a very bad month. But I'd rather have "every one is having BME"...
Does anyone have any clue why the sales are so bad? Summer vacations are over, the economy is slowly picking up (both in US and Europe). Of course there is the old over supply argument, but something has clearly happened after May.

a. Keep griping and keep uploading - business as usual ! b. Go exclusive to one agency of choice c. Be non-exclusive and upload to as many agencies as physically possible to spread income effect d. Say hasta la vista to microstock and commit effort elsewhere to substitute the income e. Go independent such as own site or Symbiostock
My sales are also falling (Now I understand why this season is called "Fall" ) I will do all the above except d. a. This is my main storyline, uploading and griping b. I would like to make some exclusive shoots. My favorite choice would be Stocksy, but I haven't heard from them yet... Going totally exclusive makes no sense in this turbulent industry. c. I have been doing this for years, and will continue. If I find out a new site with easy upload and at least some sales I will upload there... d. Not quitting yet, the trend is down, but maybe there will be a end-of-year boost... and some sites are doing well. e. Very interested in creating a Symbiostock site for some of my more special images (and also the regular ones). I just don't know where to get the time to do that...

Some noise, but that's what cameras with bayer sensors do with blue color.
