General Stock Discussion / Studio Space?« on: March 25, 2015, 02:11 »
Just wondering what everyone does for a studio? I want to start photographing people in studio and out, outside the studio is a whole other question but for in studio once you start setting up a scene to photograph you need a pretty big space so just wondering if people are renting a space or working out of their garage or using a facility at a college or something? If you rent any tips on where to find large spaces for cheap?
My plan at the moment is to convert the garage but then I am not sure if that would come across as professional if you hire models or if it would be large enough? Thanks 153

I would recommend Florida long before Charlotte. Simply put, Charlotte is crime ridden and there is so little work here that the crime just keeps going up. It WAS a beautiful old southern city. Now it is a crime infested, gangland. I am not kidding. There are parts of this city the cops won't even go into because of the gangs here. What about surrounding towns 20 min to an hour out? Like Kings Mountain? 155

I think it will mean lower pay for contributors, on the one hand it can mean more downloads of contributors images but that means more pay out from SS to contributors even though they are collecting the same amount of money by consumers so the only advantage would be trying to take costumers from iStock to compensate for everything. In the end when profits drop for SS and their Stock Holders the contributors will end up with lower compensation.
At some point there is a bottom before the entire thing comes apart and the industry falls apart. I personally think we are getting close to that bottom before veteran photographers and even new photographers say "it's not worth my time, effort and capital to produce images for these agencies anymore." When that happens is the time photographers will have the opportunity to step in with their own sites, so start making yours now and join forces with other photographers. 157

General Stock Discussion / Re: StockUnlimited Brings The Netflix Model To Stock Imagery« on: March 15, 2015, 01:09 »
If its like Netflix then its sure to Suck! Netflix online never has anything new even Redbox is better! And I think every contributor here would agree that they would get paid nothing for their photos so my guess is that 123rf or Getty or whoever is behind this new startup will be pulling content from other sites as a partner of some sort since no one will want to contribute!

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has done photography in Florida or North Carolina and how humidity effects your Camera. Do things get really fogged up, do you have to take it in more often for cleaning, and what are some of the challenges of working in humidity besides sweating?
Also if you do live in these states I am thinking about moving to either Orlando FL or Charlotte NC what are some good neighborhoods or surrounding towns to live in? In Florida is it safe to live near Cape Canaveral coastal areas, especially for hurricanes? In Charlotte are there tornados? Thanks 163
Shutterstock.com / Re: SS Single & Other Downloads?« on: March 14, 2015, 10:36 »Custom licenses for larger customers. I would like contributors to have general information about the types of licenses, but SS has been asked and won't do it. Most of my SOD have also been objects so I am thinking that they are for something else as well but I can not figure out what. 164

Shutterstock.com / SS Single & Other Downloads?« on: March 14, 2015, 01:11 »
So I have been trying to wrap my brain around SS pricing and payout. For the longest time I thought Single & Other Downloads was an Enhanced License but it's not. When you look at their plans they offer Customers, Single & Other Downloads isn't really part of those plans but instead more of a personal case by case plan for big companies I assume?
So for instance if I get a $90 Single & Other Downloads sale I have received 30% based on my lifetime earnings. That means that the actual sale was $300 total, So what kind of sale is that, I can only assume its similar to the Enhanced License, the largest screen size at 300 dpi Tiff but with some special Licensing agreement? And if so what kind of agreement would that be that does not already fall under the already all encompassing Enhanced License Agreement? Thanks 166
General Stock Discussion / Re: Enhanced License Question?« on: March 13, 2015, 01:12 »Dreamstime and 123rf offer a TIFF as well - same as SS, created from a JPEG we upload. What is an upsized tiff exactly? is it any better quality than the jpeg they make it from or are you uploading tiff files to places like SS, DT etc? 167
General Stock Discussion / Re: Enhanced License Question?« on: March 13, 2015, 00:01 »
OK so on Shutterstock is says that they do infact offer tiff for the enhanced download but that they make the tiff from the jpeg image. Doesn't that seem pointless? Usually the tiff is larger to begin with and then you convert to jpg and it gets a lot smaller. So what is the point of them converting it to a tiff? If it was a 174mb tiff file and then you convert it to jpeg and it goes to lets say 12mb jpg then Shutterstock can't turn the 12mb jpg you give them and make it back into a 174mb tiff! So why do they make it a tiff?

General Stock Discussion / Enhanced License Question?« on: March 12, 2015, 19:56 »
When a buyer purchases a Enhanced License from SS are they getting a jpg or tiff file? If its not a tiff, does SS ever offer tiff size files for purchase?

I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing a drop in sales everyday for the last week? Are there mass uploads to ShutterStock? I am not understanding the sudden drop off in sales, I'm a full time stock photographer so the kind of drop I am seeing matters quite a bit.

Here are the on Demand Prices but what I want to know is if they buy an Enhanced License Professional Access Subscription will they be getting an EL for .33 Cent? As there does not seem to be any other purchase plans listed.
Images on Demand All sizes 2 pics - 29$ 5 Pics - 49$ 25 Pics 229$ Enhanced License 2 Pics - 199$ 5 Pics - 499$ 25 Pics - 1699$ Or is this Enhanced License pricing listed above for both Subscription Buyers and On Demand Buyers? 173

If a buyer purchases a monthly or yearly subscription do they get to buy any size photo at .33 and .27 cents? Even EL for that price?
