Not a very apt analogy - hockey is a team sport, so the athletes must practice together. It's not uncommon for elite athletes in individual sports to train in isolation - just look at Shaun White, Shani Davis, Lindsey Vonn, etc.

Hockey was probably a bad analogy, true.  Shaun White is an exception to the rule.  Shani Davis thinks the world hates him.  A lot of the US athletes train at one of the training centers in Colorado, NY and Cali. Shaun White trained with everyone else too until he was the bestofthebest and thought his crap didn't stink (kind of like one particular top-notch stock artist now come to think of it! lol)

Good luck with that! There are lots of people here that hate the fact that their images aren't the only ones available!

Yeah - I know.  That's the mentality I'd like to destroy but I know my odds in this industry. I've gotta say there are definitely groups who do it better and succeed because of it.

Money for the person whose link you use !!! :)  If you just sign up, no one gets paid !!

MANY of my friends are microstock photographers.  If I want to sign up for a new site I would say 99.999999% of the time I would use theirs to help my closest friends.  My wife also does microstock.  Sometimes I use hers too.  I understand the extra $$ but I don't use random links usually.

I'd like to see more info shared, more "let's help THIS small group beat the other 99%" rather than "I have to beat everyone on HERE!"  Sure, we're all in competition but the American Olympians train together to get better. They have a common goal of beating the Canadians at hockey (AND SUCCEEDING!)  I'd like to see this group have more of a common goal of being the best at what we do.

If you look at any of the major things that happen in wedding photography now A LOT of it can be traced to one or two groups of people, including a forum I helped run for a few years. This small group of microstockers could EASILY be the top producing group in a year. Instead of fighting each other though, we'd have to work as a unit, like an Olympic team.  If that starts to happen good things will come.

I think most people at this particular site know about most agencies they could possibly sign up for - I think mainly it's silly but hey, if people want to do it, it's their waste of time!

I love the ease of their upload process but you do have to watch what your doing. If you click one of the small thumbs it automatically changes all your data to that of the clicked image - including assigned MR's.

I'm sure this is what happened and he didn't even realize it.  I had to delete a good 20 images when I realized I didn't have the "categories" button checked as well - I was copying 100% including MRs from some isolated people. lol

I'm sure Todd Arena knew him best of anyone here - you might want to try contacting him through his website.

Yeah - Todd and I talked to him pretty much daily for the last year or two of his life. Miz was crusty and cantankerous. He was either loved or hated depending on who you talked to.  He loved to argue and provoke people as well as teach and share what he knew. He was a pretty smart dude who enjoyed the spotlight of being "the grumpy old man."  lol  I hope that helps - if this post is serious.

I can't believe there was nothing in the sales contact of the remaining shares of StockXpert that prohibited the founders from entering into the microstock market again for some period of time. Especially considering the buyer. Seems odd that Getty/istock leave out such a clause.

Isn't the co-founder of IStock working for Fotolia now?

Full time wedding photographer with 6 shooters, 4 kids and a new house.  We keep fairly busy here.  Also developing software, working on websites and being a Google-a-holic.  My non-micro life is a cross between DIY powertools and sledgehammers and web design geekiness.

re: Miz - he had someone in charge of it after his death.  AFAIK his earnings are collected by someone and passed to his family.  I'm 99.9999% sure he took care of it and I have spoken to that friend once or twice.
