I think it is stock material and has potential to sell ok.
You can be surprised sometimes how some images sell!

Likewise - as and if when needed.
When I have to take out extra noise I will sharpen just a bit.

I am an Available Light person.
I work in it 99.9% of the time.

Congrats Steve and to your partner.
Happy families to you!

Well, I don't get many of them selling and it's hard enough getting them processed to a decent level and accepted, but I sold one today on FT - a scanned 35mm trannie taken on Fuji Sensia.

How is everyone else getting on with their scans?

I'm getting images accepted OK - but sales are very sluggish and not consistent.

Much better than expected - up 45% so far on earnings over December.
Not taking into account a much welcome EL sale.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutter Village ??
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:18 »
The comment posted here claiming that Shutter Village is subsidized by the Irish government is false. To avoid miscommunication or a misunderstanding allow me to put facts straight, Shutter Village is not subsidized by the Irish government.

On the www.shuttervillage.com  website there is a reference to our involvement in a program with the local Enterprise Ireland office. For those of you who dont know what this is; it is a support system that exists in every county in Ireland where EI (Enterprise Ireland) help new start-up business get off the ground. This help is in the form of advice and guidance and it is open to every type of business. Shuttervillage.com has NOT received any funding or subsidizes so I dont believe its fair to give a start-up business any bad press over the way government have wasted taxpayers money.

In relation to comments that some images on the www.shuttervillage.com website are low quality this is because Shutter Village started out with a goal of helping amateur photographers get a start in the industry and initially we accept a certain number of low quality images in the hope that we could help amateur photographers improve their work. We are working through a process of phasing out any low quality images before we move into the Rights Managed industry.

Yes, we know the law in regards to proper licensing and business practices.

Iriz, your comments have been noted by several of our member photographers who are quiet offended. As I presumed you are a photographer you are aware of the pixel quality of a cheap mobile phone so please back up your comment by identifying the images on our website that would meet the pixel quality of a cheap mobile phone.

Holgs, up to present we have 73 photographers. Not all of the 73 contributed but I can assure you majority of them did.

To end this, please allow me to thank everyone for your feedback. We are new in this business so we appreciate all types of feedback so we can learn from our mistakes, improve our business and move forward.

Once again, thank you very much for your time.

Thanks for responding and providing the information.
In general how is the site progressing and what are your plans for 2009?

187
Do you ever approach a stranger and tell them you think you could make some quality photos with them? If they agree would you ask for them to sign a release in exchange send them some of the best pictures?

I don't, but often think about it!
Problem is these days, people don't do much for free, and most will want to know the ins ad outs of what you plan to do with the image and what they can get out of it.

Just last weeeknd I saw a guy photograph a Street Performer who asked for $ and became very angry when the photographer walked away.

I have had to fill them out for every agency in the Big 6 and a couple others. Some of the agencies just don't bother mentioning it until you have went over the payout level that requires you to pay taxes on it.

Yes. it's obviously down to level of earnings, but we really could do with some "Clarification" in a big way!
So many, so confused. I feel all this could be included in each site's " Contributors FAQ"
Would make it a lot easier for everyone.

189
Most contributors are probably aware by now about the recent request from SS for completed tax forms.

What I'm wondering is - has anyone heard from any of the other agencies.
For me, it has just been SS.

190
Geez, you sound bitter, marcopolo.

But it doesn't have to be that way.
Shoot what you like and how you like to make it.
Create imagery that matters to you.
Produce work that you can look (back) upon and feel proud of.
Trust that you will be successful if you are passionate enough.

Be the best you can be at making your kind of stuff and you will be rewarded in far more ways than money can ever matter. Go for it.

This is also my motto - Well said!

It's so hard to know!
The latest post (in regard to non US residents)  in the SS General Discussion forum, is that the changes are "mainly for record keeping purposes"

And - if you are wondering about Tax Treaties and which country has with the US, then this link might be useful.

Yaymicro / "YAY Goes Green"
« on: January 21, 2009, 14:53 »
I see over on the right hand side that YAY now has a green arrow.
Is this new status reflected by increasing sales for anyone?

Me - I'm stuck on Zero ( a long time)!

« on: January 21, 2009, 14:47 »
I have an account on RB.
From my experience there, they are usually pretty swift to deal with issues, specially something like this.

However, it's been a while since I had to contact them.
Best thing is to post a journal on the issue (with a strong heading) - usually gets attention and results.

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert becomes dating site?
« on: January 20, 2009, 17:29 »
Mela,

To be fair, this is not unique to StockXpert.
I have had similiar experience on other sites.
Just  report it  to admin and they can track the user (if a member) and remove them.

StockXpert.com / Re: Site upgrade
« on: January 20, 2009, 13:53 »
It seems that the reviewers are working overtime - on a sunday!

I got two batches reviewed and approvet 100% today.  The last batch no more than one hour after the submission...  And yes, StockXpert seems to be doing very well at the moment.

Like them a lot, and I'm looking forward to see just what the upgrade will be offering
On the contrary - some of my images are pending a few days now with just one or two processed.

StockXpert.com / Re: Requires property release?
« on: January 20, 2009, 08:42 »
It is a hotel room and I clearly state that.  Oh well.  It must be some recent policy, as I have uploaded hotel rooms and hotel restrooms before. Thanks guys.

Regards,
Adelaide

Yes Adelaide - I suspect a change in policy.
I had a property accepted a few months back with no release, and last week one rejected>

General Stock Discussion / Picture Nation - UK bias?
« on: January 19, 2009, 04:29 »
Looking at PN, the agency leans heavily towards images taken in the UK.
May not suit international contributors.

General Stock Discussion / Shutter Village ??

Has anyone checked in on this one?
It's been around since 2007 it seems and was previously known as Celtic Images
Unusually, it lists number of buyers - also photographers and number of views on images.
