In the stock industry, we are in the mercy of big players serving our files... if they choose to give them for almost no money, we could only take files down, but all other agencies soon follow the dumping practice.
In b2b video production industry, I just don't do works that are underpaid. While still have chances to change clients mind why my service costs more than some newbies. If they don't understand, I'm not at much loss, because I didn't need to waste my time and resources to make anything.
I like shooting videos, but I've overgrown this Exposure crap that everywhere is common. Exposure doesn't pay bills. #fact

I think Im on to something, I am happy with my sales but I expected more growth so I checked how my files look from the buyer point of view and found out that hundreds of my clips are labeled as editorial when they are super hardcore solid commercial clips. Across all other platforms and to any standard known to mankind.
I think this effects my sales.
Anyone else having the same issue?
Im a big fan of P5 and hope they can fix this.

Yea, had same situation... reported all commercial ones back to them to fix them.

It is not just in your head. Some people with too little experience in programming can't accept the fact, that the earth is round and want scientific proof of that, but are unable to give proof that the earth is supposedly flat. #justsayin I got tired of even trying explaining what is going on a port of 13k video files (much more relevant than most of the small fishes), so I avoid any provocative debates.

I've been in microstock 10 years now.
I remember when it was exciting to track sales and watch my income steadily rise, like some on this page are reporting.
But a few years back, everything changed:
- My port size hit 10,000 and each new upload was a miniscule addition as a percentage of my total collection... meaning I couldn't expect to see constant growth like I did as a newbie.
- At the same time, oversupply at the agencies was getting out of control... total collection sizes were going up by tens of millions a month, and my few hundred new images meant nothing.
- The agencies started stacking the deck against us, favoring the brand new artists to give them hope that this is a sustainable income so they keep uploading. (news flash... it's not.)
So, how was my May? Crap. At least I assume, because looking too deep into the numbers is depressing and I've stopped putting myself through that.
Same experience. And still listening to naive arguments around here, that our sales aren't capped. Sure they are, the bigger you go, the more they suppress your sales so that newbies have more of sales share. That's why I lost interest even in responding or discuss in topics.

...or you can assume that you worked just hard enough to keep your sales despite an exponential increase in competition. The expected result in such a scenario would be decreased sales unless you worked hard to add to your portfolio.
And we have already established that Shutterstock overall sales are going up. That is public information.
Can't see how your statement can hold, we always had much better results with each new year... and we still added many new video footage to collections.

Don't get hopes up, those ads are personalized, if you visited your own profile at Pond5, they show you only your files. Others don't see the same ads.

Have you renewed the W-8BEN? They usually require you to fill it out again each year and I know one time there was a bug that reset the W-8BEN so you had to fill it out again.
The W-8BEN works fine for me at VB and there are no taxes withheld.
Tried it twice already. Anyway, I gave up on this agency because of low sales too.

It's their way of getting your portion of "100%" payment. Misleading marketing to get as many contributors on their site.
Just because you are paranoid, don't spread such absolute tripe -- here or preferably anywhere else. That is blatantly false, and you should either know that, or get a basic education before opening your mouth.
The invoice is completely legit. First it shows your earnings. It then shows the charge your credit card (or wire transfer, or whatever) charged the agency to get you the money. If you don't like paying that, then you need to find another way of getting paid. It makes sense that the agency is not going to pick that charge up. I am going to Botswana in a couple months. The guide said I could pay by credit card, and add 2.5% (what the card charges them) extra, or wire transfer with no fee. Same thing here.
The tax withholding is required by US law. If your country does not have a tax treaty with the US, then they are required to withhold that, because you technically earned money in the US (where your agency resides). At the end of the year, you will need to file a US tax return, showing (presumably) too low an income for US taxes, and the US Treasury will then refund your money. (The agency DOES NOT HAVE YOUR WITHHELD MONEY -- it goes to the IRS).
Again, if you don't like doing that, then set up a mailing address in some country friendly to the US. (For example, I live in South America, but have a US mailing address and US bank account to avoid the very problems you are wondering about).

Also the most shittiest agencies you shouldn't upload to. But why listen to experts, just devalue your works like 99% amateur videographers do in all fields of video production. Like shooting a wedding for $200. #GG Concerning about taxes, there is a reason why tax exemptions exist. If they don't care and just pick taxes with all sales without respecting the W-8BEN form it's misleading marketing of their almighty "100% contributor income share" many of your kind are promoting as "good thing for industry", which in fact isn't and you earns less than Pond5, Adobe and even in some cases of different licenses on Shutterstock.

Basically, if your country is not one of the zero withholding tax countries (between the US and your home country) they will cut tax automatically. You should fill up W-8BEN form.
Tried that, didn't work. All other agencies don't pick tax, just videoblocks/storyblocks does.
