good for you. I did a 6 week detox last year and lost 7kg (ha, i've managed to find that again since moving to the land of cheese and wine) and it was very tough. stay off the internet!  :)  fwiw, i usually get mouthy at night after I've had a few wines....... so I stay out of forums in those situations.

I'm sure I already completed it, so I didn't bother with it when it popped into my inbox today. (sorry)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Rejections at SS

I mean no disrespect to anyone here and I'm only asking from the perspective of someone who doesn't photograph people but with so many photos of pretty women on isolated backgrounds available at all the microsites is there still a market for them? Do they sell often? What helps them sell better than other "beautiful woman" shots. Again, this is not directed to any one photographer, I'm just trying to understand the market and do not intend to start photographing people (too hard if you don't have a studio and the proper lighting set-up).
+1, although fashions change, and the ethnicity that's currently trending shifts the game.  But, didn't Yuri win an award for hottest models? this genre is highly competitive.

interesting, cheers to the demise of the "poor lighting" rejection.

If you really want to feel some pain as a microstocker then move to Australia where their currency has gone through the roof compared to the USD and prices have skyrocketed too.

yep, we have French and German backpackers staying here and they all can't believe how ludicrous our prices are.

I've had my Frenchies and German boy sign releases in English, I hope that ruling about a release in their own language doesn't apply when they're here.

^very true. I was with a lot of agencies when I was enthusiastic, but now I've scaled that down to a handful. I only regularly upload to 4, and then play catch up with a few more every quarter. If i get a burst of sales from a slower agency then I upload again, but otherwise I concentrate on where the regular money is.

nope, don't even remember it now. the pics don't look overly professional, not a lot of photos. it's still up after half a year.  no one else has had a go?

I haven't used other brands at the same level as my Nikon, so can't compare. I am interested in the comments regarding flash units. My Nikon speedlights are crazy expensive, and pretty easy to drop, so I'd be curious to try out some cheaper versions. Not sure if they integrate seamlessly into the v intuitive Nikon system though. I haven't used a flash in 6 months to be honest.

123 sells more of my travel pics than anywhere else. They have the potential to have decent commissions, although you need a lot of files.

still no comment from tickstock? my popcorn has gone cold waiting...

(FWIW, it's FUBAR - acronym standing for F-d Up Beyond All Repair)  ;)
I thought it was funny, like people who write/say "toot sweet". That's how language evolves and we end up arguing over the spelling of "aluminium". :)

where is tick stock to say something reassuring/sycophantic.

I swear anytime I post anything about iS it's: I can't believe the soap opera continues. How do they keep outdoing themselves?

actually I'm ok at being a standout because everything else is crap. :)
My December was not good at 123, but it's all swings and roundabouts.

I might be lucky, they've been rejecting most of my stuff for the past 2 months.

I also have a very high rejection rate at the moment, I thought it was because they knew I was giving them stocksy castoffs....

I love these images, and I think the ones that look right are the cafe ladies. Others a bit posed. Not to say that some contributors aren't getting these type of images through, but most of us have had "too posed" as a rejection. And as the collection grows and the talent increases they are getting stricter and stricter. It's a good thing in the long run, as I suppose they aren't interested in having 200 pages of baby images that look like all the rest. I believe they see what fits in with what's currently in the collection, also a good thing.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: No regular sales in stats
« on: November 21, 2013, 06:32 »
I've been popping in here less and less as my life is busier (moved states, new school, renovating, bank stress, etc) but I haven't seen a thread about this until this morning. Sadly there's a page of arguing and about 5 good posts. I'm showing zero stats too, although I've been keeping track all month thanks to Sean's script, so I know the month is doing ok for me. Whether that will be reflected in the made up reported earnings is another matter. It's pretty sad that I say "fingers crossed" and mean it. How very unprofessional.

Computer Hardware / Re: Switchng from Windows to Mac
« on: November 21, 2013, 06:22 »
oh there are many things you'll dislike for a while: going to the "wrong" side to close windows. Hitting that "x" that just closes but not quits a program. The DEL key if you don't have a full keyboard.  i still use a 2button mouse and have all the right-click functions.

You'll love: the simplicity and clean look. Finder is wonderful.

You may hate: Outlook and Mail. I hated them both, switched between them both for a few months, yelling at them both. Settled into Mail eventually.

I never liked Windows but used it for a number of years before switching back to Mac, and it took me 4 months to fully get used to it. I can't stand using Windows now, and am totally lost. be patient and know that it will be worth it.

love the number plate, but the car, ugh, not a fan of the hot peppers suv. tis a bit soft. land rover defender would have suited the video.

i'm off to look at that monopod he's designed...

I'm SO fed up with the "lets make everything look retro" phase that the design world is going through! I like my modern toys tools to look modern.
ditto, but there's not much you can do about it. the hipsters are at the wheel and we must all jump aboard.

I wouldn't want a cruise ticket either, I'm sure we all have done our fair share of contra, but ultimately we all prefer, need, cash.
