Are these the equivalent of SS on Demand Downloads or the 25 a Day? And what did DT used to pay for this type of download?

I'm so glad I read this post, I had no idea that was happening, I got several of those sales which is awesome but I can't help but wonder if it is effecting SS sales as I have noticed in the same time frame a decrease in sales in SS which if that is the case I am not sure if its a good thing or bad.

General Photography Discussion / Zipping a Photo Problem« on: February 20, 2015, 01:51 »
I need to zip some jpg photos so I tried win zip and also the compress info on my Mac feature to zip a 5mb file but when I checked the zip size on both Win Zip and the Mac zip they still said 5mb. Am I doing something wrong or do jpg files not zip further down than 5 mb?

Wow that looks like copyright infringement to me! If those are yours I would get a layer. Even though they are different I think the artist concept has been stolen. Get a cease and desist from a layer.

General Stock Discussion / SS Subscription Price Confusing« on: February 18, 2015, 21:26 »
I can not wrap my head around the numbers, SS pays me .38 cent for Subs but a Purchaser pays SS $199 a month and gets 25 downloads a day. An average month is 30 days thats 750 downloads. 750 downloads x .38 = $285. So that would put SS at a negative $86.
Does this mean that they are basically giving the subs away at a loss and attempting to make up the difference with the other download types? Does anyone know what the price breakdown is for the different download types. For example how much does a purchaser pay SS for a Sub Download, A on Demand , A Enhanced etc. ? Thanks, 207
Selling Stock Direct / Anyone Using WooCommerce?« on: February 18, 2015, 20:47 »
Is anyone here using WooCommerce? If so how does it allow for an instant download after a PayPal payment is made and how does it protect all of your images from someone downloading more than once or prevent someone from finding the image in your web page files and downloading for free?
Thanks. 208
General Stock Discussion / Re: Found my photos with Google Image Search on Etsy and they are selling it......« on: February 18, 2015, 12:56 »
How do you find out if someone is using your images in a way they are not supposed to? I certainly can't police the internet, is there a google search that will pull up all your images?

General Photography Discussion / Sales Returning to Normal?« on: January 04, 2015, 21:19 »
Last year was my First year in Stock Photography and during the Holidays I freaked out because my sales dropped from Dec 23 till Jan 10th. This year It has followed that same pattern although I was hopeful it would pick back up faster to normal speed. Does anyone else have a down turn in sales during this time period and if so when do you typically see your sales go back to normal?

Software / Lightroom Focus Mask?« on: January 04, 2015, 03:13 »
Does Lightroom offer a Focus Mask Plugin? I see that Capture One has a focus mask, but I am used to using Lightroom and like Lightroom, does anyone used both of these programs? Has anyone tried the one plugin I found at capturemonkey.com, sounds like some dude made it which makes me skeptical if I want to try and use it!

General Stock Discussion / 85mm or 70-200mm or both?« on: December 28, 2014, 00:44 »
So far as a stock photographer I have only done studio with objects. Now that I have that down pretty good I am planning on learning how to photograph people. My question to those of you who photograph people is would you choose a 85mm lens or a 70-200mm lens or would you use both? Also if you could only pick one lens would you choose 85mm or 70-200mm if those where your two choices?

Canon / Re: What is the Advantage of IS on Canon Lenses?« on: December 28, 2014, 00:01 »Practice the correct grip of a DSLR camera/lens assembly and how to 'freeze' when clicking the shutter. That's way, way more important than having an IS lens __ and much cheaper too. Any video links on proper grip of DSLR cameras? 216
Canon / What is the Advantage of IS on Canon Lenses?« on: December 27, 2014, 20:01 »
I am looking into buying a 70-200mm Lens for my Canon, my question is what is the importance of the Image Stabilization feature as the lens without it is $700 and with the IS the lens is $1,299? I plan to use it primarily in studio with flash so my thought was that since flash freezes the shot why bother with the IS except for those instances that I am outside with it, but even then is it really needed? Still being new to photography I don't know anything about Image Stabilization and wether it makes that much of a difference?
Also one version of this lens opens up at f4 and the other at f2.8, does this make a big difference as well? 217
General Stock Discussion / Where to Live as a Stock Photographer?« on: November 14, 2014, 02:39 »
I am wondering where most Stock Photographers live, in and around a Large City or Small Town?
I recently moved from a large city to a smaller city and am thinking about moving back to a larger metropolis. Currently I do all my photos in the studio but soon I want to start moving into photographing people and I think a large city will be important! What do you think? Where would you live if you could move for Photography? 218
General Photography Discussion / Isolation Question?« on: July 30, 2014, 18:45 »
I am working on a photo with a lot of fibers and I want to isolate it on a white background at pure white. Typically when I do isolations I will take the photo into photoshop and use the pen tool to select the object and then put in a 100% white background. With a bunch of fibers, using the selection tool is not going to work out.
How can I get a 100% white background in this situation? Do I blow out the backdrop with a strobe? Or is there a method in photoshop I can do? Thanks 219
General Stock Discussion / Re: Anyone understand iStock's changes in Most Popular search option?« on: July 29, 2014, 23:53 »
They should have just added a "Feeling Lucky" Button like Google!
I have noticed that their searches bring up irrelevant results which is going to send some consumers away, It's also going to hurt their exclusive contributors. 220

Off Topic / Re: 947 Domain Endings« on: May 10, 2014, 09:59 »
I agree that no company would by all the domain endings but dollarphoto.club I think that is a no brainer for a a website who is dollarphotoclub.com!
As for impersonating, I have no plan for that, there is no way I want to sell my photos for a dollar a pop! I don't know what I will do with it I bought it for the fun of it, any suggestions what to do with it? Also I think the 947 ending do matter as its the future of the internet, at some point Google and the rest will make those endings just as important if not more important as the internet evolves. As it can add new keyword search relevance to a already over saturated internet. 224
Shutterstock.com / Re: SOD/OD/ED seem to have stopped in May« on: May 10, 2014, 09:48 »
It seems like it would only make sense that SS or any Stock site for that matter would change up the images so as to look fresh to the regular buyers who shop there. Just like Google constantly changes things up. Also it seems like they would have some sort of organic system that doesn't always show the same results otherwise people searching for photos will always pull up Yuri.(For Example)
In the end although it stinks if you rank very high on the search results, overall I think it helps even the playing field so that more of everyones images are seen and sell especially as more and more images are uploaded. Just like on Google, how many pages back is someone going to go when looking to buy an image? On Google when I look for things I typically go back two pages and almost never three. I think Stock Searches probably have some sort of max as well unless you need something really specific. 225
Newbie Discussion / Re: Shoot in AdobeRGB or sRGB?« on: May 09, 2014, 23:35 »
I did some more reading across the web today and learned that if you are shooting in raw only on your camera that sRGB and AdobeRGB does not matter. Although some said it did matter.
I also read that Macro sites prefer AdobeRGB for Professional Printing and that AdobeRGB can be Changed to sRGB by the Client but you can't go from sRGB to AdobeRGB and regain the color spectrum. Also that many stock sites will switch files to sRGB. I have always submitted AdobeRGB with no problem and my images look correct in my online portfolios. So I guess I won't worry about it! |
