another for bluehost although I dont have ktools. On my hosting I have cms account which I havent finished setting up yet (has about 6000 images so far, struggles if I upload more than 25-30 images at once). I also have a coppermine gallery with about 8000 images in it and about 6 other sites one of which gets about 200k pageviews a month. All up using about 85GB of space. Overall it is not the super fast speeds of your own webserver, but it is respectable and of course you are only paying for shared hosting. the few times I have used support it has been fast and friendly.
that's the best ad I have seen for bluehost so far

you should use pingdom to track your down time (and warn you when your site is down). It is free if you just have it track one site http://www.pingdom.com/How much are your paying for ktools hosting? I've got my site hosted with wiredtree. I've been really happy with them but their minimum package is $50/month. I also have a few small sites with bluehost and can also say good things about them.

yeah, it's closed for business. It wasn't very well used (except for the odd spammer) so I thought I'd just as well close that area. I should put a redirect up.

leaf, how is it going with cmsaccount?
and is it better than ktools? I currently have cmsaccount but would upgrade to ktools if it's any better..
Actually I canned the cmsaccount and bought the upgrade for ktools and I agree with the others that ktools is quite a bit more polished. I was actually surprised with cmsaccount and how well it was put together, especially for the price - so it is a good option if you dont' want to spend the $$ for ktools, but I had problems getting the template to work the way I wanted and a few other little problems getting them to work like I wanted.
With Ktools, the back end seems to work just as well for most things and better for some others. It also seems easier to edit the template, which is a big improvement over V3. I'm still playing with it, but impressed so far.
Thank you leaf, helpful info!
Good to hear a proper comparison from someone who tried them both..
I am going to get one of them for my other site while keeping the current one on cmsaccount.. I just haven't decided which one yet.. I would spend the $$$ if it's clearly better..
one of the most important things is the bulk upload feature.. where does it stand compared to agencies like stockfresh, fotolia, or canstock?
Thanks for the input again..
I currently have PhotoStore 4.0.7 installed. Bulk upload works fine and you can upload a batch of photos and bulk add them to categories and set pricing. I haven't found a way to bulk edit once they are imported into the database but maybe there is something I'm not seeing. I can post a link to my site in a week or so.. if I get it working the way I want. So far I think it was worth the extra $100... mostly because I can edit the template with relative ease. They have made good use of CSS in the latest version.

I'll answer that in the Ktools vs CMSaccount thread... to keep things organized we can discuss the comparison between the two there.

There was a bit of discussion about this in this thread, so I thought I'd move the discussion over there to keep things organized. Have you tried Ktools PhotoStore or CMSAccount Photo Video Selling Script (preferably both).. what's your thoughts? Here are the links: Ktools Photostore, CMSAccount Photo Video Selling Script

What a pathetic attempt to drive traffic to his site...
looks like it's working. what would be nice is if the OP, instead of posting the link, actually copied the text and posted it here. that way, the blogger gets one hit instead many, just from this forum alone.
Copyright issues?
Let them file a DMCA just like we all have to do. Wouldn't that fall under the same bull$hit fair use clause as the bloggers hide behind?
Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. We certainly are criticizing and commenting.
Oh yes, it's just that any time I mention that clause, people here say it doesn't apply.
I agree with ShadySue .. you could post one paragraph or something as a quote (with link back to the original author) but you couldn't post the entire article.

Hi stockastic,
Part of the reason for this policy is due to withdraw fees. However, if you would like to re-enable your account so you can spend your account credit on the marketplaces, you can contact our support department and they would be happy to take care of this for you. (You can simply respond to the same ticket created when you requested to have your account closed.)
Thanks! :-)
thanks for jumping in here jremick

Those doing well are far less likely to report their stats.
Then again, a recent study found that my stock images are better than the rest" (my mother said so).
The problem is, people use that same argument when people are doing too well to believe. A problem with the yearly microstock poll (at least one that's always mentioned) is that the people who are doing well are the ones that are going to happily report how they're doing. Perhaps what is actually true, is that the people who are involved and interested in the industry are going to report how they are doing, regardless of the information they are reporting.

Not a great month for me. Better when I totaled it up than I hand thought, though. Istock and FT, which were way down, seem to have rallied a bit. Still a long way to go to make up lost income.
Overall down 5% from May (which is pretty typical for summer), but what is worrying is that I am down 9% from last June.
My 7 month break from uploading really hurt me. Been uploading again since April, so hopefully after the summer that will pay off more substantially.
Agreed about the summer work pay-off in the fall. It's pretty hard to really gauge how things are improving (or not) until August / Sept.

Thanks for your quick comments guys, they've shown me the errors i did not quite see i.e adjusting white balance on camera. I am working to address these issues and will be sure to watch tutorials and learn more about stock photography. Would it be of any help if i get a better lens? Such as a Canon 17-40mm L lens or maybe to start off with, a 50mm 1.8 as at the moment i have a kit lens with a canon T2i.
I'd start with the the 50mm 1.8 and wait until you can get images accepted with that before bothering to invest in anything else. If you shoot in RAW you can deal with the white balance in post and have a lot more control for editing.

I'm interested to hear how it goes and what your earnings look like. Getting accepted to Shutterstock is key to making non-exclusivity worthwhile. I'd also consider submitting to all the sites in the middle tier - depending on your time of course.

Yeah, that ones does look sketchy. It takes you to a site where members upload photos (with no control) and they have this little text on the bottom All the resources on this website are the website users upload! All the resources are not allowed for commercial use, otherwise you will be responsible for liability! If resources have violated your copyright, please through feedback to us so that we can delete a timely manner to protect you or your companys rights! contact us I'd write to youtoart.com.. here is a link to your image there http://www.youtoart.com/html/Vector/Animal_Plant/11909.htmlI guess it is more youtoart who has the biggest problem .. and freepik has a problem linking to them. If they are reported to Google with a DMCA and they get taken out of the google search results that would seriously hurt their business.

I found collections of my vectors images with hundreds of downloads. I am not sure if actual download is from this site. It just takes me to webpage where I see only ip address - probably it is redirect. The download was possible without problem...
They even state this false license note: Free for commercial use. (!!!) This is the most scary part. Even if they function only as search engine and copy this information from other places.
This is extremely serious issue for me.
can you post a link?

if the site they link to is giving away images for free legally, like photoxpress or sxc.hu then everything is legit. If it's linking to a illegal download site then that would be different. Can you link an example of a questionable site? Everything I've found so far is just a legit free vector or image site.

So I uploaded a few images, a few with models, and they were all put into the commercial category. I have releases - but they don't know that... I was never asked. I'm guessing there will be quite a few unreleased pictures of people on that site that are selling in the commercial category... I'm guessing they'll be changing things soon (or at least after their first legal dispute)

with just a little bit of clicking around it just looks like they are a search engine for images. The one image I found just redirected me to the free image on photoxpress. There are also a lot of Shutterstock images on there, but those are 'sponsored images' which you just click through to Shutterstock and then have to purchase like regular.

thanks all. Not sure me reaching diamond is any news worth it's own thread... especially a thread on iStock but thanks none the less.
Reaching diamond is far past due lol. I ignored iStock a long time (a year or two) when they first start the disambiguation thing and am suffering now trying to get my portfolio up to size. Nice to finally reach Diamond though and have my upload limit increase.

Agreed, he knows the paths he could have taken.
Great marketing
Hmmm. "I made a mistake so I made my minions work overnight". Some buyers won't like that.
I'm pretty sure it was optional and it looks like it was a 'good time' I am still amazed by the fact that 24 retouchers took up the challenge and worked for 24h+ to help make the promise come true, and I am grateful to each and every one of them. It is amazing working with people who take so much pride in their job and who are willing to go that extra mile it sometimes takes to get to the finish line. http://arcurs.com/2012/06/retouching-more-than-2000-files-in-24-hours/

Hope they educate their sellers about releases.
Yeah, I'll say. They have a little clause in their terms that say you have to have the appropriate releases but I tried to upload a couple of test photos and they didn't ask anything about releases. The reviewers choose whether to put the images in editorial or commercial category .. but I don't know they know if I have a release or not... There seems there is a few more bugs to work out for them.
