Thank you that was helpful thank you, your response really made me feel better and you provided info for me I did not know. So kind of you thanks again

You're welcome. I hope it helps!

Whenever something like this happens use a WHOIS search to find the web hosting company. Contact them, they usually will take care of things.

2152
If they don't remove your image(s) from their store, go ahead and contact the web hosting company:
Here is the WHOIS info:

domain: STILIZART.RU
nserver: ns1.r01.ru.
nserver: ns2.r01.ru.

Webhosting company: http://www.r01.ru/
E-Mail the web host: [email protected] and/or [email protected]

Tell them that this guy is selling your stuff without a license and infringing your copyright. I've never dealt with a Russian web host before so I don't know if they will remove it for you or leave it up to him.

Here is more stuff about this guy/company:

Maybe you need to send a few emails out until he/they understand what's happening...  ::)

Best of luck!

Whoops, I just saw that you got that one figured out already. But I leave this up in case someone else runs into trouble.

This collection appears to me, being the RF counterpart of the RM Flickr Collection on Getty.

Now the buyers have the choice of buying "premium" images as RF AND RM which they could shoot themselves.

I bet there is a market for that and if not, buyers will see the much more fantastic images in the Vetta, exlcusive(+) and regular collection and will happily buy more images (at a lower price) from there instead of the former premium site where they used to buy.

With all this crying and moaning from iStock's side about sustainability and the future of iStock it sounds like that Getty is about to be buried in 10 years while iStock will emerge as a big image discounter (offering RM images in 2015).

They may be rolling this out gradually and only some contributors see it at this point.

Alamy does this all the time.

Istock in the past did it the opposite way and failed many times when going live with new features (available to everyone).

Sorry click_click, maybe my english is bad: where is in alamy? I never see this function. Dove sta?

Hmm, I still don't quite understand what you are asking me but I think you want to know which features Alamy rolled out to a selected group first before making it accessible to everyone.

- The "new" Manage Images tool was initially offered to only 250 in March 2009 before it was put live on the site for everyone.
- The "newest" Alamy Upload is only offered to a group of contributors to see if it works fine before making it accessible for everyone.

These are just 2 features that I can speak of as I was participating there.

If I didn't answer your question send me a personal message.

Cheer up guys---they've assured us that the changes will only be "painful in the short term" for some of us. This will only hurt for a second....

Danged, that's one long second, I can tell you.

Is Istockphoto being fattened up for sale so H&F get to walk away with sh1tloads of cash?

Hold that thought: IS is being fattened up to be sold, again, to who? An even greedier investment company? Or some super social photographer dudes that want to make IS what it used to be? Who's gonna pay for that since IS won't be sold for anything less than 300 to 400 Million Dollars.

And you believe then they will raise commissions?

This ship has sunk, rotten and dissolved on the bottom of the ocean - we're just watching it in slow motion.

@click_click,
can you tell me were I can find in alamy this nice lesson of geography?
Sorry, I don't understand your question (English is not my native tongue).

« on: September 15, 2010, 07:05 »

actually I calculated it out.  and with the lower credit costs for non-exculsive images at iStock, iStock will actually be making LESS off my images when I cancel exclusivity.
...

Yes, that's known by anyone who's taken the time to examine the ins-and-outs of iStock. I think it's even been mentioned a few times on this forum - guess not everyone was paying attention.

Looks like it. Sorry.  :P

This of course can ONLY make sense if you can sustain (I hate that word by now) your lifestyle without your exclusivity-income. Now the question is, how many exclusives can afford that...?

Oh, I have no guarantee of being able to sustain my lifestyle.  Its going to take awhile to work back up to the income level I have right now from iStock.  In the meantime I will have to make some cutbacks, canceling internet at the studio, possibly moving to a cheaper studio or doing only on-location shoots for awhile.  Its just that I won't be ruined financially by not having income from iStock.

Kudos. It's rare to see somebody with that kind of dedication and willing to make sacrifices. I'm sure you're already in the middle of talking to many agencies in order to pump your images to them. If not, I recommend to get in direct touch with them so you're on your way as quickly as possible.

Some agencies will gladly process your images for free so you only have to FTP the images to them. They'll do the keywording and categorizing.

Best of luck!

1)  Leaving exclusivity
...

Lisa, did you consider the fact that if an exclusive drops exclusivity, that he/she will play into iStock's hands?
Even though the contributor will be able to upload everywhere else, the same images on iStock will create a higher percentage for iStock than being exclusive.

It would only make sense as an exclusive contributor to drop exclusivity and leave the agency altogether like the OP is doing.

This of course can ONLY make sense if you can sustain (I hate that word by now) your lifestyle without your exclusivity-income. Now the question is, how many exclusives can afford that...?

I mentioned on another thread that here in Canada Direct Deposit costs $15 per. So that adds up to $180 per year just to get money from Alamy. Cheques are better to wait for a few days than pay this fee.
Have you followed Alamy's updates on the direct deposit? Supposedly with their latest form of direct deposit you shouldn't suffer from any fees either.

2162
They may be rolling this out gradually and only some contributors see it at this point.

Alamy does this all the time.

Istock in the past did it the opposite way and failed many times when going live with new features (available to everyone).

2163
Relative cost?
So why did Alamy give up the $10* fee for check OR direct deposits? Are they just being generous? Is a company being nice to us? What the heck is happening?

*There used to be a fee - I don't remember how much...

2164
Alamy offered it for a while but since I switched to direct deposit I must say it is a very convenient way to get paid.

I can see that many people still like funds coming into Paypal because they also use the money straight from there for online purchases.

However I was wondering why the micros in general don't offer direct deposit, especially for countries where there is no Paypal. Also the agencies have to pay the fees for Masspay (I assume).

Anyone?

New Sites - General / Re: Clipdealer - any experiences?
« on: September 13, 2010, 07:42 »
Decent prices, decent commissions, rather slow sales (but better than some other low earner sites).

I would recommend them as an additional site if you're spreading your work out.
Certainly no replacement for any of the top sites volume wise.

Thanks - they offered me to do the keywording if I bulk upload, s I'll give them a try, as it is mostly a supplement

Yes do that. Upload all you've got and let them do the work. It can't get any easier than that.
Commission is really fair and in EURO!!!
Good luck!

2167
...How's that for spin?

Sharply, thanks for taking this approach. The numbers you brought up paint another picture, true.

No matter if I take my numbers or yours, my next year on iStock would only consist of 11 months instead of 12 regarding my income drop - IF sales stay the same or even slightly go up.

Now we have to "wait and see" if iStock can keep its promise of "balancing out" the drop in commission by bringing in more sales but I remain skeptical.

Also, the fact that no other agency offers 15% as a starting point (except voluntarily giving your images away for free...) is simply not a smart move.

I'm not iStock's accounting company but I highly doubt that they are in some sort of financial crisis.

In my eyes (and this may be wrong) iStock has been ordered to achieve figures that are simply too high. Since iStock is now brainless (in terms of not acting on its behalf anymore) it will do whatever is requested to remain part of the "gang" and probably counter-balance any other mismanaged branch of the corporation.

This change is wrong on so many levels (although we mostly care abut the money part) that I feel deeply sorry for many exclusives who have been lied to over the last years.

It is what it is and as much as many realize now that the old iStock is dead we have to move on. Still, this change has affected a huge number of people (some more, some less) and these days, every single Dollar counts.

2168
Great work CC. Many thanks for getting it in statistical perspective for us.

Anytime. Since day 1 of this mess I was interested how the numbers split up. Now we have an idea.
Unfortunately these stats don't make the whole thing go away...  :P

2169
I agree.

on istocks forum it was mentioned that something like 74% of exclusives are base level, so cannot drop. cant remember the exact figure, but if correct it left only 1 or 2 % of other exclusives not taking a hit.
Yes, that's what I've read as well.

Interestingly the majority of exclusive votes  (almost 30% of all exclusives votes!) came from contributors that will drop from 30% to 25%.
One would think that most exlcusive voters would be base level - at least that would be my assumption.

2170
Thanks a lot Click for starting this poll and taking the time to tabulate the votes and explain them in simple language for those of us who are mathematically challenged.  :)

Certainly by this poll, Istock's claim that 75% (or thereabouts) will stay the same or not lose out with this are complete nonsense!
I'm glad I did it because it shows clearly what 142 non-exclusives (141 for that matter) will experience - a loss of income while iStock will make more money.

I think iStock's numbers regarding the contributors who are supposedly not affected was limited to the exclusives. Everything else would mean that a bunch of crazyheads is running that place (although it might not be far off...).

Still, these numbers and iStock's don't match, not even close. I can only explain this with the assumption that most of all exclusives who maintain their commission level are not participating in this one sided discussion and also didn't vote here either. So there might be a higher percentage that isn't actually affected.

2171
Is there any way an exclusive can get an increase in percentage (immediate jump) once this lunacy is enacted?
I'm not aware of anybody. If so, that person would certainly have the key to success and I doubt they would share their story anywhere in public.

2172
Here the latest status regarding this poll considering 187 votes:

142 non exclusive contributors which split into:

39.4%   dropping down to 15%
28.9%   dropping down to 16%
22.5%   dropping down to 17%
5.6%     dropping down to 18%
2.8%     dropping down to 19%
0.7%     maintaining 20%

These results mean that 99.3% of the non-exclusives will suffer a commission decrease.

Here some comparisons:
- Approx. 4 out of 10 non-exclusives will lose 25% (a quarter) of their monthly earnings.
- The vast majority of non-exclusives, 9 out of 10 will at least lose 15% of their iStock income.
- According to the poll 1 out of 267 non-exclusives stays at 20%.

45 exclusive contributors which split into:

28.9%   dropping down to 25%
17.8%   dropping down to 30%
6.7%     dropping down to 35%
15.6%   maintaining 40%

15.6%   maintaining 25%
13.3%   maintaining 30%
2.2%     maintaining 35%

This shows that 53.4% of exclusives are dropping into a lower commission bracket while 46.7% of exclusives maintain their commission percentage. (This hasn't changed since the first status calculation).

If a lot more votes keep coming in, I'm happy to calculate this again, but obviously the numbers haven't shifted significantly.

So maybe we can hear now your thoughts regarding the numbers and all other info we've read on the iStock forums.

Thanks to everyone who voted for this poll!

2173
OK 18 more people! Let's try to get 18 more votes so I can do another status update.

Please let everyone who uploads to iStock know about this poll and tell them to vote.

2174
The results are interesting. Note that over 50% of all the current 181 respondents are independent contributors that will be dropping to 15% or 16%. Added together that probably generates a very significant increase to Istock's profitability.
That's how it appears. I would love to get 1000 votes to get a much better result but it shows already that iStock did not publish numbers that are the reality.

2175
it is possible to change my vote?
I thought I selected that option but I don't think you can change it anymore. Sorry.
I don't know why it didn't work.

Thanks for getting the word around.  8)
