Canva / Re: Notice of violation emails
« on: February 27, 2024, 05:29 »
OK, they now started sending me "violations" e-mails about all kinds of subjects.  As soon as a drop of blood, a suggestion of abuse, a dead animal, or any form of angry face is in view, it has become a violation.
If they really mean it with their threat to suspend violating accounts, Canva will probably be left with 10% of its artists, with only "nice" images of smiling happy vegetarians.

So the only thing I can do to protect my portfolio, is to start deleting "violent" images myself, but I don't see a "delete" button.  I can see an "unpublish" button on the "my items" page.
Can anyone find a real DELETE button, or is UNPUBLISH the only way to remove items ?

I had one too :  they deleted a photo of a tiger eating prey (which happens to be a large piece of meat, probably because tigers don't like veggies).  Reason:  violent content.
They did not delete any of the other 10 photos of the same tiger with the same prey ...  (though they are easily found with the same keywords).
Would you delete those?

As far as I remember, the new regulation will only start on 1st April, so until then, they will withhold the same % as they've been doing for years

I have not received any communication from Payoneer regarding the new 3% withdrawal fee. Could anyone copy paste here the email from Payoneer ?

Hi,
Here at Payoneer, we are constantly working to provide the best products and services in the market. We are reaching out today to inform you of changes to our pricing structure that will be relevant as of March 1, 2024.
To continue providing the highest quality product possible, we occasionally need to update our prices due to changes in the market.
Please see the table below to understand which prices are changing and how this will affect you and your business:
New Pricing Structure
Withdrawing your balance to a bank account : 3% of transaction amount
Withdraw funds from a Payoneer balance to your bank account : 3% of transaction amount
Example:
USD balance > EUR bank account, bank is in EU :  : 3% of transaction amount
EUR balance > USD Bank account, bank is in Hong Kong : 3% of transaction amount
Payments to recipients bank accounts via bank transfer : 3% of transaction amount

30
Same here :  bye bye Payoneer, and back to Paypal.
I can't open a dollar-account at my (Belgian) bank, but even if I could, they'd probably charge a LOT if I tried to pay a euro payment with it.

I think they will only add AI keywords/descriptions for images without metadata.  If yours are already keyworded, the AI will do nothing (at least that's how I understood it).

If no amendments are made by January 20, 2024, any content older than 30 days will be removed.

So they'll remove all older content of all contributors who do nothing?  Haha, I'm sure that is a typing error.  I think they mean :  If you opt out of AI keywording, all content WITHOUT METADATA will be removed after 30 days.

33
I sell about 20 images on Etsy, but they are targetted at baby photographers (like me), not at the general public.  Earnings were about 100 euros (nett) in the first year and 25 euros this year.  I don't do ANY marketing for them though.

34
If you just REMOVE the background with AI, you will get an isolated image on white.  I don't think that will be considered AI, unless :
- the image file names (or your keywords) contain the word "AI"
- OR :  the content credentials contain the word "AI"

"Content Credentials" feature :  It is embedded in Photoshop 25 as a Beta feature and it can be switched on or off through your "preferences".  If it is "ON", the use of generative fill is recorded in the file, even if it is a tiny adjustment like the removal of a logo.  But putting your subject on a white background is not really "generative fill" ...

However, if you mean REPLACING the background by something new, using AI, that is "generated" by AI, so I suppose that image would belong in the AI folder.  But I'm not Mat H., so don't take my view as Adobe Law.

Question for those whole upload to Istock regularly :  do new files sell at all?  or is the largest part of your Istock income based on old(er) files?

After a (years-long) break I started uploading to iStock again earlier this year. So some of those "new" files weren't literally new, but were new to iStock, and they are selling. My portfolio is small - about 1.8k - but making payout nearly every month.

Thanks all for the replies.  The weird thing is I stopped uploading there many years ago, and since then, I have been making payout almost every month too, with a VERY old port of about 6000 images.  So I wondered, if old photos keep on selling - do get new ones even a chance?  Happy to hear they do ...

Probably a very dumb question, but how do you check your own port to see if there are AI images in them?  Up till today I did not upload any AI to Adobe, but when I read this thread, I 'd like to check if Adobe mislabeled any of mine ...

https://stock.adobe.com/contributor/contributornumber/contributorname?&filters%5Bgentech%5D=only
Replace contributornumber and contributorname with your actual number and name.

Thanks!  My result is zero (which is correct) - but I think that's because I've been uploading model released images, so little chance that reviewers consider them as "generated"

Canva / Re: Almost any images get rejected instantly?!

... BUT my total number of accepted images goes DOWN instead of up.  So I can only conclude that they are rejecting older images, or "cleaning up" my port.

Sorry for probably asking (I really don't find Canva's Contributor interface intuitive) - but where can I see the number of assets I've accepted?

For that, I only have this link :
www.canva.com/p/xxxx/   (and xxx is your contributor name)

It's not just "instant" rejections, but also rejections of accepted images :  I still upload there, and about 80% gets accepted, BUT my total number of accepted images goes DOWN instead of up.  So I can only conclude that they are rejecting older images, or "cleaning up" my port.

Also, I read this on DPreview :
The new Content Credentials feature attaches metadata to Firefly-generated images to let others know the creator, edits made, and the tools used, what Adobe is calling a "nutrition label" for AI images.

I just followed an Adobe Youtube clip about this "Content Credentials" feature.  It is embedded in Photoshop 25 as a Beta feature and it can be switched on or off through your "preferences".  If it is "ON", the use of generative fill is recorded in the file, even if it is a tiny adjustment like the removal of a logo.

42
I don't have any similar experiences, but I wonder if you might understand more about how this mistake occurred by looking at the metadata in your uploaded file.

When I was experimenting with Photoshop 25 and generative fill, I used an online metadata tool to look at and compare what was in the new file versus one created with PS 24.x. As far as I can tell from the limited tests I did, if you stay away from the AI-powered features, your Photoshop edited files should be fine.

Interesting!  Can you tell us which software you used to view the metadata?  I just use Irfanview and their report looks totally different from yours ...

Did anyone get a "confirmation" after requesting payout ?   After clicking the button, it just changed into a grayed out button "being processed", but no other confirmation or e-mail.

44
This change also has no impact on the elements royalty pool, or elements creators. The royalty pools for templates and ingredients (elements, photos, video, etc) are separate.

Thanks for the good news!

"Collaborate, edit, and present on-the-go
Easily edit slides and present from anywhere using Canvas presentation software, on any browser or mobile device."
I think that means that there's no download involved for this type of use but Canva's telling you that will count towards your payout

I think that makes sense - which means it would be good news after all ...

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock generative AI reminders
« on: September 23, 2023, 02:44 »
Adobe's website says this:
Quote
Content created by prompting with artist names if their works are no longer under copyright may be acceptable as long as you verify that no other rights apply to the prompt (e.g., publicity rights, cultural heritage rights, etc.). If you are unsure if you have the necessary rights, do not submit content made using that prompt.

Personally I would not risk it. Adobe has a twitchy finger when banning accounts.

For "Rembrandt" it's far to late, as I use the keyword in the meaning of "Rembrandt lighting" a lot, but the word "Vermeer" I could remove from already submitted images I suppose ... although there are hundreds of "Vermeer" images online, including 200 girls with pearl earrings, and only 8 of them are editorial.

I do realize I'm on the wrong topic here, as I was talking about "real" photos, not AI ...

"On October 1st, we will start paying for template "usages" instead of "exports".
This improvement means you earn royalties each time your design is downloaded, printed OR presented."

I've read this 20 times now, and I still have no idea what it means ...

Did anyone have anything rejected because of mentioning "antique" artists' names?  I often mention styles like "Rembrandt" and "Vermeer", but they died 400 years ago ...   Does Adobe say anything about long-dead artists?  (and do the reviewers know?)

Shutterstock.com / Re: So we don't get a rejection reason any more?
« on: September 16, 2023, 02:36 »
But where exactly is the "data cataloge" option available? Maybe that's what I am missing somehow, though I have looked everywhere.  :(

You're not missing anything, because you're opted out.
The "data catalogue" can be found by clicking in the lefthand bar on "portfolio", and then "data catalog".  Only you will not find your refused images there, because you opted out, so there's nothing to be found there.
So customer support is right :  you cannot delete them if you're opted out.

I do wonder however, if the "opted out people" are able to resubmit their images if they have been marked "eligible for data licensing".
I had a few refusals for MR, "real refusals", so I can resubmit with a corrected MR, but resubmitting the "eligible" ones is another problem, because you really don't know the reason of refusal ...

I have opted out about 2 months ago, and this week I also got 1 file "eligible for data licensing".  I hope that just means that "it would be suitable for data licensing but we won't use it since you opted out" ...
Or, in other words, "the file is refused, we know you opted out, but we're using the new term because then we don't have to give you any reason of refusal" ...
