Newbie Discussion / Re: why can't I start a new thread?
« on: June 11, 2020, 16:25 »
Hi!

Can anyone explain how I can insert a picture and a link into my new thread? I'm newbie, I can create a text, but when I place a link it is not active so other users cannot click it. How I can solve this problem?

Thanks!

You need to make more posts before your links are active.

I have maintained accurate records of microstock sales and several statistics including RPDL since I started in 2009.  For me, average RPDL of SS for all of last year was $0.92.  The highest ever was 2017 at $1.36 and the lowest was 2009 at $0.32.  So far this month it is $0.26.  Average number of sales per month peaked for me in 2014 and declined to about 45% of the peak last year.  The complicated presentation of the OP makes no sense to me and could be skewed by a few high-value sales.  My numbers so far this month have RPDL lower than it was when I started in 2009.  Of course that will change if I get some ELs or high-value SODs but the highest I've had so far this month is $2.50 so am not expecting much of a change.  RPDL of $0.26 is the lowest of all the agencies I contribute to right now, with the exception of Canva which was only $0.20 after their change last month (I am not counting their bonus payments which will go away in five months).  The SS RPDL will be even lower when we all drop down to level 1 in January - at that point it will be the worst of all the agencies (even iS!) and that is a fact.

Thanks for the good stats.

I've removed two posts that were nothing more than shouting insults.  If we are going to discuss something, then we need to discuss it - not fire insults back and forth.

Regarding to subscription sales, that always was main sale; we never was paid based on the subscription package that buyer buy. There are 4 subscrption packetes:

10 images for 49usd (Packet 1 or P1)
50 images for 125usd (Packet 2 or P2)
350 images for 199usd (Packet 3 or P3)
750 images for 249usd (Packet 4 or P4)

Based on this and the % presented for SS the earnings per sale under new criteria is:

Level 1   0,74 usd(P1) ---- 0,38 usd(P2) ---- 0,09 usd(P3) ---- 0,05 usd(P4)
Level 2   0,98 usd(P1) ---- 0,50 usd(P2) ---- 0,11 usd(P3) ---- 0,07 usd(P4)
Level 3   1,23 usd(P1) ---- 0,63 usd(P2) ---- 0,14 usd(P3) ---- 0,08 usd(P4)
Level 4   1,47 usd(P1) ---- 0,75 usd(P2) ---- 0,17 usd(P3) ---- 0,10 usd(P4)
Level 5   1,72 usd(P1) ---- 0,88 usd(P2) ---- 0,20 usd(P3) ---- 0,12 usd(P4)
Level 6   1,96 usd(P1) ---- 1,00 usd(P2) ---- 0,23 usd(P3) ---- 0,13 usd(P4)
Thanks for the calculations. But it seems more complicated than that.

There is different pricing if it's monthly or annual subscription, and if the annual subscription is payed in advance or monthly. Further, if not all images are used in a month, the price per image will in reality be higher.

It doesn't matter if all images are used or not.  They have specified that if it is an image pack for $10 for 10 images, then our share is a % of $1.00 per image.  Even if only 1 image is downloaded.

Thanks for calculating that out.  it looks like the left two columns will be more than our current rates and the right two less than our current rate.  Now we just need to know what % of sales are the right two columns 🤔

I feel the least they could do is have a rolling 12 month level system - nothing like demotivating people by taking away rewards / levels they've worked hard to achieve over the previous years.

With all the upset people, this is the perfect storm for Adobe to swoop in with a sweat exclusive offering.

I don't have any rejections. Acceptance is 100%. How, you may ask? Well, no uploads to Shutterstock solved all the problems.

Funny answer for a guy who left this comment on April 9 ...troll alert :

"komikmiha Reply #36 on: April 09, 2020, 03:24 »

SS rejections are beyond my understanding of common sense. I uploaded some clips with graffiti on wall and put them under editorial. They got rejected with Not Editorial: Clip does not fall under one of our acceptable editorial categories or it may have been incorrectly tagged as editorial.. Then I resubmit clips and mark them as commercial. They got rejected because: Missing Artwork Property Release. Then I tried the third time, again under editorial and guess what, rejected because Not Editorial. Now let's see what will happened the forth time. And fifth time. And I don't think this is the work of AI, I would say there are some naive or greedy humans involved. And I hope SS goes down.

My post was deleted. I was uploading to SS but I stopped. Admin is this ok with you?

Yes, your post was removed for rude sarcasm.  I sent you a DM explaining.

So the worse an agency treats you the more you will do marketing for them.

?????????????

I just shared some news, isn't that what you're supposed to do on a forum like this?
Also if the name of the site is the same it seems that the owners and managers are different (which remains to be proven).

Agreed - like them or not - it is a 'newsworthy' post and worth a conversation.  If you don't like them for whatever reason, you can feel free to share why not as well.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Coronavirus ?
« on: March 11, 2020, 18:08 »
This is so crazy, now I can't tell you the future but as of now you stand a better chance of dying of heart disease, car accident, weather related injuries, cancer and the list goes on. This is still a very minor virus at this point, you still have more to fear from the flu!!

minor virus?

7% mortality...is minor? good luck

What's your source for that figure?

"What is the mortality rate of the new coronavirus?
It is probably about or a bit less than 1%. Much higher figures have been flying about, but the chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, is one of those who believes it will prove to be 1% or lower. The World Health Organization’s director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, talked of 3.4%, but his figure was calculated by dividing the number of deaths by the number of officially confirmed cases. We know there are many more mild cases that do not get to hospital and are not being counted, which would bring the mortality rate significantly down.
Deaths are highest in the elderly, with very low rates among younger people, although medical staff who treat patients and get exposed to a lot of virus are thought to be more at risk. But even among the over-80s, 90% will recover."

and https://abcnews.go.com/Health/early-mortality-rates-covid-19-misleading-experts/story?id=69477312

the current death rate is 6%
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

obviously - The rate is going down over time, but it is still very high.  Mostly for elderly or otherwise sick people.  The reason we need to help stop the spread of the virus is so that more elderly, or people with diabetes etc. don't get it.  Also it's important to slow down the spread of the virus so the hospitals don't get overloaded.   it's better if the 100.000 people that are seriously infected in your country go to the hospital over a years time as apposed to all next week.

Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness

As others have mentioned: horrible idea for so many reasons

- if one person's images sell more than the others (and they will) that one person will feel like they should be earning more
- you aren't going to always want to do this together, then what?

If you really, really, really want to work together, start a company.  The company will get 100% of the stock earnings and the two of you can be paid wages from the company.  If one of you wants out, they'll need to be bought out from the company.

Seems like a smart move for Jon.  Moving onto the part of the job that he enjoy's more and is best at and letting someone else lead the troupes.  That said, I hope this doesn't mean bad news for the contributors.
