Shutterstock.com / Re: How are sales going?- Shutterstock
« on: August 05, 2013, 09:37 »
I had a huge drop since that search change, when all my best sellers went to hell.  But then sales got better. June was my BME money wise and July my BME downloads wise.

But things are not pink yet. My newest uploads don't sell at all! And it has nothing to do with them being buried under other pictures, because they're still on the first page under the "new" category for about a week after being accepted. And I really don't think I suddenly started taking crap pictures. Usually, 1-2 pictures from each batch used to sell. Now nothing, and I mean NOTHING sold from the last 10 batches! I really don't understand...

Cameras / Lenses / Help me choose between two lenses
« on: July 25, 2013, 10:55 »
After looooooots of thinking, I finally narrowed down my options:

1. Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD
2. Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Besides the weight difference between them, I pretty much like both, so don't know which to choose.

Can someone who worked with both these lenses tell me which lens gives a better image quality? This is the only thing that could help me finally choose.

Thanks in advance!

Microstock Services / Is prostockmaster still free?
« on: July 17, 2013, 15:28 »
I wanted to use it today but this message appears: "Lightburner account for your username is suspended! Did your account reach your subscription limits? Please contact [email protected] ASAP to resolve this issue." Then I remembered that lightburner is not free anymore. Is this the issue?

Well, I wanted to, but it said that the host is not free. At the moment I'm not making enough money to pay for something that might not get my money back. I'll wait until my portfolio grows.

« on: July 13, 2013, 13:34 »
Yup, I've seen some kind of growth compared to the last two months, but my sales still can't compare with March and April which were my best months ever sales wise. And I added a lot of pictures since then...

But I'm happy! I got my first EL last month and my first SOD this month ( 4 dollars ). Things are beginning to be the way I was imagining they were going to be.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5: What should we improve?
« on: July 11, 2013, 11:07 »
I have only two suggestions:

1. Clips should be automatically converted so they could be available in all sizes
2. For some reason, the capital letters from all my titles are displayed as normal letters after uploading. So I have to take each image one by one and rewrite the titles. I suppose the metadata is not being read correctly.

Pond5 / Re: Sales drop lately @ pond5
« on: July 01, 2013, 17:31 »
It's quite the opposite for me. I have an 100 clips portfolio and never had a sale on Pond5 until last month when I had 2. I noticed that my oldest clips sold, so I'm thinking that maybe the files need to be online for a while until the first sales. Made some good money in June thanks to those sales. It really motivated me to work more.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Opinions On My Progress

You're doing way better than me. I've made almost 300 dollars on all agencies as well but it tooks me 6 months and I had a lot more downloads than yours. You seem to be getting bigger sales.

I did but it redirects me to the general forum, I can't see a certain post.

Is there a way to find out which type of account I have? Or I have to wait for the actual payment?

Uhm...I'm really confused now. So is there a difference or not?

That wouldn't be fair at all but I guess I can't complain as I'm in Europe. I'm going to get my first payment in a few days and I really wouldn't mind if I would get 50 euros instead of dollars.

Nothing is stopping me. I'm doing it almost full time ( combined with another photography part time job ). Unfortunately, in my country it's very hard to get jobs with those huge salaries like you guys say you have ( 60k salary, even the number scares me  :o ). Here, you have to work until exhaustion even for 200 dollars a month. And pass the limits of exhaustion for more than 200 dollars. My brother for example, he has around 2000 dollars a month ( that's simply HUGE for this country ), but has no time to spend with his family or even eat/sleep properly. Of course I wouldn't mind that sum, but I wouldn't be able to live like that.

This is why I do microstock + the other job full time. I can work whenever I want, wake up late, get a vacation when I need it and decide my own schedule. Not to say that I absolutely adore what I do. I get around 300-400 dollars from these two activities combined, which is perfect for my needs at the moment, because I don't have a family to feed or rent to pay. And I hope I'll earn even more after I finish university and will have more time for work. My portfolio is still tiny.

I'll probably not going to do it full time forever, because I'm building another career besides photography. But if I do get a full time job, I'll do it because I love my other hobby as well and not because I don't get enough money from photography ( at least at the moment ).

Adobe Stock / Fotolia payment
« on: June 27, 2013, 13:00 »
I read somewhere that Fotolia pays contributors in different currencies. Does that mean that some contributors get more money than others? Let's say a contributor in Europe has 50 credits and one in USA has 50 credits as well. The one in USA will get 50 dollars and the one in Europe 50 euros? ( that's almost 15 dollars difference! ). Or something is done to compensate this?

40
I easily found the file just by the name. I think you should remove that screenshot as well and just send an e mail to SS...

41
I agree that weekends suck. But I noticed something strange. More than 90% of my sales on Dreamstime, Deposit and Envato are on weekends!

When I check SS on Saturdays and see 0 sales, I don't get depressed because I know that if I check one of those 3 websites, I'll certainly see that something sold.

« on: June 17, 2013, 13:17 »
It's a nice feeling to see round numbers ( both in images and earnings ). Good luck!  :D

On SS with 100 images I used to make around 10-15 dollars a month I think.

43
I would join the fun if I could understand how the whole thing works  :D Even though there are so many posts about this, everything is so confusing. Do you have a tutorial for extreme noobs?

I think it depends. For me Canstock is on the third place ( after SS and Fotolia ).

Off Topic / Re: Dreamstime- Poor Sales
« on: June 11, 2013, 18:33 »
Same here. My portfolio is small ( around 300 images ) but the sales are ok on SS, Fotolia, Canstock and 123RF. But Dreamstime...I celebrate if I sell a picture a month there!

General Stock Discussion / First Pond5 video sale!
« on: June 09, 2013, 22:32 »
I'm so happy and excited that I have to share this with someone! 6 months after I started doing video and when I was veeeery close to give everything up, I finally had a video sale on Pond5! 30 dollars!

God, this really compensates for the bad picture sales on Shutterstock and my overall crappy week. It's my biggest single sale ever and feels so good to get from one sale half of the money that I usually make in a whole month.

Btw, do Pond5 do refunds? Cause I'd die if I see those money disappear  :D

Oh, I see! I thought the packages are only for subs and people who use credits will always pay the same prices. Thank you for the answer!

Dreamstime.com / Confused about credits
« on: June 06, 2013, 05:42 »
I had a sale for 7 credits ( M size ) and I got 1.73 dollars for it. Then had a sale for 8 credits ( L size ) and only got 1.54 dollars. How is it possible to get less money if the picture was bigger and more expensive?  ???

Microstock Services / Re: Lightburner is paid now:(
« on: June 03, 2013, 16:23 »
It's easier and faster to send all your pictures by ftp to each website than dealing with Lightburner. It has so many bugs, not all pictures make it through. And it was extremely slow too, I had to wait for 24 hours until my images were distributed everywhere. So I'm not going to miss it...

Why use something that only causes you problems, only because it's for free?

I'm kinda aiming the same thing, and I hope it's not going to be too hard. Even though my sales are drastically down lately, I'll do my best and keep on working.

In my country, if you don't have rent to pay, even 500 dollars a month means a great income. I have a friend that had a normal job and worked until exhaustion for 200 dollars a month. And that wasn't a small salary for this country's standards...could be even worse!

Before my sales went to hell, I was at around 150 dollars a month from microstock + a side job that I got thanks to microstock. That's close to how much my friend was making and I don't have to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. And also don't have to follow a schedule or deal with weird coworkers ( well, if we ignore stupid rejections at various websites ^^ ). Anyway, I consider those 150 dollars a month to have even more value, because I don't have to go through a lot of hardships to get them.
