How is it that a studio that produced such "great" designs can't come up with a decent looking web site since they are a design agency. Why is it that the supposed design house doesn't have actual client work like any other design houses and the only works they show are images of what seems like their other sites that sell 600 vectors for $30. No creativity here... stolen or traced is my opinion on them. If they are not stolen, they hired some designer with minimum experience to change up some bestsellers they already downloaded on shutterstock and other subscription sites. minimum pay and effort for maximum gain.
It pisses me off that these guys got away with this for so long.. i opened the other thread back in sept 2011...

its not positive at all... its the smoke and mirrors they are doing to keep exclusives exclusive as long as possible till they squeeze that last drop!

as long as there is no transparency and no regulations, and the number one goal of istock is profits, why wouldn't they write a piece of code that randomly generates a refund mail every 1000 sales...

It almost seems to me like the puppets at istock management is trying to bombard contributors with all these new developments and recent forum posts in order try to take the spotlight off its real issues. Rebeccas last post was pretty clear that it is no longer istock and is only interested in gettys profits.

isnt this another way to steal all your images and sell elsewhere? im not sure how the process works but was curious on how safe your files will be on some unknown site.

I haven't been around here much lately. I have been focusing my efforts outside of micro and doing more freelance work. One of my areas I do is t shirt designs. I figured i design tees for other clients, might as well make some for myself. I have come up with my own site this week selling my own designs which i illustrated. During this process, I found out i sucked at making type shirts as i spent almost 10 hours custom drawing the words "Kings of Queens" on my elephant tee. It's a simple big cartel site which caters to independent labels. I chose this site for its easy templates and the shopping cart system. A more fuller website is on its way. The styles of my shirts are slightly different as i am developing my brand. They are mainly targeted at the 18-25 yr old male urban market. I am hoping to make a print out on ladies tees. Any suggestion on which current design might work on women will be appreciated. Most of the designs are just designs but i plan to make more social commentary type tees like "the 11th hour". Its my take on human nature and our impact on earth. Future shirt ideas are about the 1 percent (1%), Monsanto [They remind me of the empire from star wars somehow], the banking cartel, and so forth. I know it has nothing to do with micro but i wanted some valuable feedback from this community. I havent uploaded the FAQ page and i plan to upload a Lookbook page if i feel the need. http://kingsthreads.com please hit the like button if you like the site as i have no shame in begging for like buttons! Much appreciated I have come up with discount codes for anyone that wants to make some money. These codes will last for about 3 months. They are 15% off entire order. Its basically going to be around $1.50 per shirt (other products are different rate) ordered so if you give out the code and someone uses that and orders 4 shirts, thats $6 in your pocket. I will figure out a way for you to track the amount of sales. The payout will happen once you hit $25. Then i will pay you thru paypal. Anyone interested can email me at [email protected]

Does anyone have stats on how many contributors signed up year by year agency by agency??? I fear its the increased competition and the lagging economy behind this unusual slump. If your photos are competing with 50% more competition this summer than last, theres your answer to lower views which translates to less sales. sales go down, shoot more to stay afloat. guess what? the other guy next to you is doing the same thing and the hardest workers accelerate the the plunge to the bottom... The crowd sourcing model of micro these days only favors agencies and the top top contributors...

gbalex, are you saying only buyers go into the secure subdomains of the sites? Im not understanding your point. Im not sure about shutterstock but i have to log into my istock account as do most buyers and contributors.

I used to check into my istock downloads all the time 2-3 yrs ago... These days i check in once or twice a day. Isn't that less page views just from me? If you times that by a thousand other contributors, you get the picture.

If we factor in the amount of contributors visit to these pages to these rankings, these stats may be useless. First we need to find out how many contributors each site has in relevance to the buyers. Then figure out a way to differentiate page views between buyers and contributors. I almost think most of these hits come from contributors checking their daily downloads.

Can anyone point me to where i can get a fairly generic model release? This might seem obvious to some but the only model release i am familiar with is from istock.

Thats great! i thought the license was for sensitive purposes... that got me thinking about doing some illustrations for the "mature" audiences... lol

embermike, the last time i checked (a while back), you were selling stuff at vectorstock which sells vectors at a ridiculous price.

Dont get me wrong... i, as an exclusive to istock, have no faith in istock/getty. In fact, i hardly uploaded anything the this/last year and concentrated on freelance work. I do still take in a significant amount of money each week and can't afford to lose that in hopes of spreading my work around in which i dont have the extra time for.
I think the whole refund business with istock is another way for istock to make money off its contributors as long as there is this system where the contributor has no idea what is really going on. I, along with many contributors within the last year or so have been getting these refunds on a regular basis.

Well, majority of other site sells illustrations and graphic design elements for pennies(subscriptions). Its hard for me to participate with those returns knowing i am part of the problem driving down the wages and fair compensation for illustrators and designers alike. Its all relevant to what kind of product you produce. Successful vector files on istock can easily generate over $5,000 in 2 or so years. If you have the skills to create those, why harm the industry by putting it a subscription based site like SS where you are training the buyers that good quality art can be bought on the cheap??

The double cheeseburger, Mcnuggets and fries are the best things that Micky D's has.
Chick Fillet has the best Chicken sandwich.
Subway doesn't know what a Sub is!
7-11 makes a decent pizza for the price.
I happen to like subway as they dont stack up their meats ridiculously high and have a lot of veggies in it. Thats a sensible sub to me. Im sure u prefer more meat. We have too many overweight people with poor food choices that is causing our health care costs to sky rocket. Just goes to show that the average american doesn't have the best control of their diet. Part of that has to be based on marketing and big business. As for your earlier post on the food police telling people what to eat or not. I think its messed up we have a profit based system which is encouraging companies to sell drinks with 100+ grams of sugar for pennies more. More sad is that the average consumer stays ignorant to this fact as long as their craving is fed. They should post these signs http://www.sugarstacks.com/beverages.htm thats 186grams of sugar in a double big gulp! 744 calories. You still wont burn off those calories if you ran fast non stop for 45 mins.

Do any of these sites have some sort of contractual commitment to keep your files safe?. Whats to stop a failing site to just unload (or look the other way and give it to one of their partners to steal) all the vectors they have in their library and create an account on some other sites to make money that way? just playing devils advocate here. I would be a little wary about providing my wares to every little shop i have no idea on.

Another special one from Caspar Noe...just watched it yesterday. As you may know, Caspar Noe is not very light stuff. His toughest movie was "Irreversible" with a 10 min. violation scene with Monica Belluci which was quite shocking. 200 people left the theater in Cannes when the Movie was presented.
However, the new one is "Enter the Void". It deals with dying, life after death, DMT (a strong psychedelic) and the story follows the Tibetan book of the dead. Heavy stuff and not for everyone. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1191111/
Enter The Void - Official Trailer [HD]
I saw this movie awhile back so not new at all. Couldnt finish the movie as i couldnt really get into it but i loved the crazy intro to this movie. So did Kanye West, since he totally copied it. or should i say hype williams the director for the video.
intro... goto middle of video
video goto middle of video On a different note, im curious how much everyone pays for a movie ticket at a theatre in their country. I pay around $15 for a standard film and $18 for an imax 3d film. nyc

And did you know that coal power also emits radiation? From Wikipedia: It is estimated that during 1982, US coal burning released 155 times as much uncontrolled radioactivity into the atmosphere as the Three Mile Island incident. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil-fuel_power_station#Radioactive_trace_elements
Sorry, i think thats just a bad comparison... How many coal plants are in the US during that time period? 50? 100? 1000? i dont even know. During 1982 means all the coal plants combined output for a whole year in comparison to that one event that was how long?

Forget oil and gas and coal for a second.... the real danger to humanity is humans. We make all these great progress through technology but technology itself isn't the best for man kinds future. We invent huge trawlers that pretty much picks up everything on the ocean floor so that we can consume fish on the cheap. Scientists say we will decimate ocean wild life by 2050. Im beginning to see a lot more farmed fish than ever before. cheaper food, mass consumption, longer life span. Same thing goes for farming technology. seeds and crops yield a whole lot more now a days on 1 acre of land than ever before. cheaper food, mass consumption, longer life span. In the past, we had plagues and wars that kept our population in check. Generally speaking, average lifespan has risen. Mom and pop not hungry, lets pop out babies =P The threat of a nuclear holocaust is preventing an all out war. Mass unchecked population growth that is living beyond our means. Thats why there is a general feeling that our kids will have it worse. Previous poster talked about a virus that wipes out half the population which reminded me of "12 monkeys". Either mother nature or man made, a virus or a resource war will surely decrease our population. Back on oil, I believe thats whats happening now in IRAN. Less dependence on oil, Iran's position in the world is weakening, so in their self interest, they are looking to go nuclear.

ummm from all the people who prefer nuclear over coal. would you be willing to have a nuclear plant in your neighborhood and all the excess buried near by? Lets be realistic... who would be willing to have a nuclear plant in their neighborhood if that was the only way???

All of these concerns seem small compared to what surely is on the way:
Paul Gilding: The Earth is full
This type of information is IMO too much for most people to handle. No wonder theres a show called "Doomsday Preppers" on cable in the US.
Yeah, but none of these two know what theyre talking about, just glib, thats all. Theyre probably associating nuclear power with nuclear weapons.
Did you even see the TED video on that link he posted?
