It took me eight attempts to get accepted on SS.  Pictures that were approved in one batch were rejected in another.  It seemed to be a moving target.  But I didn't give up, and I'm glad I didn't.  I have daily sales there.  Now if only I could make money with it...   :P

I never get more than one release from a model, even though we shoot on multiple dates.  But I no longer upload to istock, either.  I also don't bother writing a shoot description on the release.  It has never been an issue for me, but if it were ever become one, I could easily overcome it.

For several days, now, I haven't been able to view photos uploaded via FTP on DP.  The site tells me I have 22 unfinished files, but it won't show them.  Anyone else having the same problem?

Photoshop Tutorials / Re: Essential Photoshop Shortcuts

I had occasion to reinstall CS4 after a virus hit my OS, and after the reinstall, any time I click on any of the tools, it opens up all of the tools available under that particular category, i.e., when I click on the spot healing brush, it opens up the view to select the healing brush, patch tool, and redeye tool.  This happens regardless of whether I left-click or right-click.  Before the reinstall, I could left-click on a tool, and it would give me the last tool that I used in that group.  If I wanted to change to another tool in that group, I would right-click on it to display the other tools available in a particular group.  I would really like to get that back, but I haven't been able to find any such setting.  Can anyone help me with that?

I got some really inferior merchandise and shoddy workmanship from Cafepress a while back.  Got a refund, closed my account, and haven't had any dealings with them since.

As much as I appreciate Shutterstock's business model, web site design, and the daily sales that I get there, it's frightening and disconcerting that they would take this kind of action with no communication and no recourse.

I've read with interest the discussion about percentages, but I tend to look at it from an activity and total numbers viewpoint.  SS is the only site on which I have daily sales.  I chose not to even apply for IS because of all the changes that have been unfavorable to contributors.  Apparently it's a sinking ship.  If I'm mistaken, I hope someone will let me know.  I do have a modest collection of video clips there that still gets an occasional sale.

Nowadays, I only upload to SS (first priority), DT, FT, DP, and Veer.  Not much activity at all on Veer, but I'm still evaluating.  Not really thrilled by their month-long review time.  I really like Alamy's model, but I've had only one sale there, so I can't devote a lot of time to it.  The only reason I upload to different sites is because out of any batch, they will each reject different photos, and the entire batch ends up for sale among them.  The bottom line is that, although SS may be lowest in terms of percentage, they are highest in terms of activity, sales, and real dollars (for me).  I wish I could say that the result is a decent income, but I'm still working on that.  The vast majority of my sales are 33-cent subs.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Can't Sell
« on: October 11, 2011, 05:57 »
Your situation is precisely the reason I chose not to have my own stock site.  It would put me in competition with the well-established big boys - not something I care to do.  I'd rather do what I do (create photographs) while they do what they do (create and maintain a web site, do all the marketing, handle the payment gateways, etc.).  That way, I don't have to be a web master and marketing expert.  I can just be a photographer.  I don't envy you.  But if you want to increase sales, I recommend that you learn from the big boys.  I see their ads all the time on other web sites and occasionally in print media, so you'd have to invest some significant sums in advertising and marketing.  If you don't have a large budget, you'll have to target your ads with your demographics very carefully.  I wish you every success.

I don't see my latest batch, approved on Oct 4, in the catalog manager.  Hmmmmmm.   ???

260
I'm not sure what referring to by "option."  If you mean "sets," I have 17, most of which contain shots of a particular model, and all of which have been published.

This is one sweet piece of programming!  I'm finding it very useful!   :)

He will definitely be missed in a big way, but his legacy will live forever.   :(

Same here.  I've had a noticeable increase in on-demand sales lately.   :)

It's interesting that they reaced top tier.  They're definitely bottom tier for me.

265
So "isolated" means electronic background replacement and no shadows?

266
I have yet to make a single sale on any of the no-inspection sites.  Daily sales on SS.  I'm guessing that buyers don't want to wade through the crap that inevitably finds its way to the no-inspection sites.

267
Yes, I did use the keyword, "isolated." Does anyone else see the conflicting rejection reasons here (Image is not isolated / poor background removal...)?  Does anyone else see the vast difference between SS's acceptance (no problem with my keywords) and DT's rejections?

268
Out of a recent batch of 26, DT refused all of them and SS accepted all of them.  It's my first 100% rejection at DT, and the first time ever I've had the same batch rejected 100% on one site and accepted 100% on another.  Figure that one out!   :P

WOW!^  What was the rejection reason on DT?

"The subject of this image is not isolated. Please do not use words in title, description or keywords that are irrelevant for your image. The same is valid for the category Objects > Isolated.
This image is overfiltered. Its use for the potential designers is limited because of this, therefore the image is disqualified as a RF stock-oriented image. Please upload the original instead.
 - Poor background removal. There are strange artifacts left on the background / The margins of your subject(s) are distorted or look unnatural against the background."

Note:  There was no background removal.  The background in the photo is the background that was used in the studio.  Also interesting is the fact that this was the first photo from the batch to sell, and it sold the on the same day that it was approved on SS.  :P

I think it's possible to make a full-time living from microstock, but you would need money to live on for several years while you're in the process.  If it were my sole source of income, I would definitely be in hurtin' status!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do you resubmit?
« on: September 30, 2011, 19:41 »
Never.  My time is too valuable for me to duplicate efforts.  If a particular site doesn't want it, fine.  Another site will, and I move on to the next project.   :)

Looks like a very risky download to me.  Probably comes with adware, spyware, viruses, keyloggers, and other nasty stuff.

Is there any benefit to uploading to Flickr without the Getty connection?

Rejection rate much too high for me, too.  Cultural difference, perhaps?   :-\

The guy is obviously a capable computer geek, but he's an idiot because he thinks it's OK to do something like that.   >:(
