Adobe Stock / Re: FT rank
« on: February 12, 2009, 10:20 »
Overall rank 3445
Sold files 187

Overall rank     3050
7 days rank    2020
Sold files           448

I'm about to see these numbers really climb so I thought I'd update.

Last month I went from a gallery of 650 to 1450 in 3 weeks just by pushing the stuff I'd let sit there for 6-8 months.  So we'll see how high my ranking can climb on that now.  In a little under a year I've sold 261 files there.

The outgoing N2M links seemed to be good so I hope you got enough info! :)

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia tightening up standards a bit?
« on: February 10, 2009, 10:05 »
A few things:

1) As far as speed, I have OLD images uploaded to FT so I think they must work like Dreamstime in a way - where your reviews can be lightning quick if you upload them and don't push them through for a week or two.  If you upload and then 2 hrs later push them, you may wait a day or two.

2) As far as the actual reviews, FT was KILLING me last year.  I stopped pushing there entirely with about 500 images online.  Well new year, new push so I tried.  I submitted 1100 images last month and just over 900 were accepted!  So I'm pleased with that - but the images were also better as I went along so ... I hope that had something to do with it.

Veer / Snapvillage to be folded into Veer
« on: February 05, 2009, 10:09 »
Quote
Dear SnapVillage Contributor,

As a contributor you know how fast microstock is growing. So do we! Corbis anticipates that within the next few years, microstock photography will represent more than 25% of the overall stock photography market. We are committed to taking a significant share of this market and providing photographers a leading brand and website to reach customers looking for affordable, quality photography and a great web experience.

We have learned a lot from SnapVillage, and we recognize that as the market has rapidly evolved over the past two years, we need a bigger, better offering to achieve success in microstock.

So today were excited to be sharing our plans to roll SnapVillage into a new microstock offering on Veer, which Corbis acquired in 2007. Veer is a highly successful stock agency specializing in creative rights managed (RM) and royalty free (RF). It has a large, established, global customer base, strong brand loyalty and an industry-leading website supported by winning marketing campaigns. These elements provide an ideal platform to rapidly build our microstock business and to help you sell more. We plan to build on SnapVillages assets to launch a new microstock-specific section at Veer called Veer Marketplace.

What does this mean for SnapVillage?

In the months ahead, well be inviting SnapVillage contributors and customers to Veer Marketplace. Once Veer Marketplace is launched and fully operational, it will become Corbis only microstock brand and SnapVillage will be phased out by the end of the year.

What does this mean for you?

Good news! In the months ahead, well be inviting SnapVillage contributors and customers to Veer Marketplace. Marketplace will offer contributors efficient uploading capabilities, a great user experience and your work will be showcased and marketed within the amazing award-winning design and community for which Veer is recognized. (There will also be other good stuff too but we cant reveal all our secrets before launch!).

When does Veer Marketplace launch?

Veer Marketplace will launch in two phases with a small sampling of affordable images that can be purchased a la carte in late February, followed by a full launch mid year with contributor upload capabilities and credit-based pricing and subscriptions. You can read more details about this in the attached FAQ.

It will take time to complete this process so please bear with us. By mid-year youll have the chance to sell your work to a whole new crowd of people and become part of the Veer community.

Questions?

Want to learn more about Veer? Wondering if there is anything you need to do? Please read the Contributor FAQ to learn more about Veer Marketplace.

We also invite you to join the conversation about Veer Marketplace. Wed love to hear from you so register and create a profile to make sure as Veer Marketplace grows, we continue to meet your needs.

Please dont hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions.

We want to thank you for your support of SnapVillage. Were looking forward to your potential participation at Veer Marketplace!

Photoshop Discussion / Re: How to achieve natural skin color?
« on: February 03, 2009, 13:41 »
Left cheek hot?  It's not even *remotely* too bright on my monitor...makes me wonder...

Quick poll: cheek average, bright, too bright or blown?

General Stock Discussion / Re: How do you back up your images?
« on: February 03, 2009, 13:22 »
we do double HD backups + MostPhotos.  MostPhotos you can download a full rez copy of your image free, like 123 and there are no reviews so they are ALL on there.  I dunno how long it would take to copy over 30 tb but moving forward that's one way - so we have online AND offline storage.  DVDs and CDs are typically the WORST way to store backups and anyone with ANY experience in professional backup & restoration will tell you to avoid it like the plague unless it's your 3rd backup option.

Good choice - not that I choose to ignore many - but it's standard on most forums (ipb, phpbb) and I AM glad we have it...

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia FTP problem?
« on: February 02, 2009, 09:16 »
I hadn't had this issue on FT before but apparently going to bed and waking up fixed it - I'm uploading regularly now.

I wonder if it was people loading all their vids that crashed us out!  lol  Ah well, it's working.  Thanks for letting me know it wasn't just me this time.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia FTP problem?

Is Fotolia FTP down or ???  I've been unable to connect to it for like 3 hrs or so... dunno if it's just me though.

123RF / Re: slow reviews
« on: February 01, 2009, 00:20 »
The 123RF reviews are always selective - model release shots get reviewed separately from the non-model shots.  That's my experience anyways.  My MR shots are always reviewed lightning quick, like 1-2 days.  My non-model shots can sit 4-5 days almost every time.

General Stock Discussion / Re: January 2009 earnings breakdown
« on: February 01, 2009, 00:18 »
I just finished posting all of my results (link in my sig).  January was my best month $-wise since July except for one crazy day of ELs in November screwing up the totals.  So I'm pretty happy - back on track, adding new images, seeing my earnings increase.  We'll see how that goes.

Foto Search dude - you only have 25% of my gallery as well but I made like $1.50 on CanStockPhoto this month.  If I upload the other 3/4 and only make $5 a month was the time worth the $60 I'd make this year?  I dunno.  1500 images is a lot of work for $60.  Do you expect sales to *dramatically* change this year on CanStockPhoto or will it be a couple before we see anything tangible?  Because $5 isn't really what I'm after.

Off Topic / Re: Steelers or Cardinals
« on: February 01, 2009, 00:15 »
I applied for a press pass at a Steelers game this year and they shot me down, so I'm rooting for the Cards. ;)

J/K (at least about my reasoning)

I HOPE the Cards win but think the Steelers likely will.

288
Fotolia is the fastest for me BY FAR.  When I am regularly submitting I can push 150-200 a night there and they're reviewed by the time I wake up in the morning.

When I was starting out, I thought that speed = bad because FT rejected a lot of my stuff.  This month I think Fotolia has added almost 800 of my images with 85% or higher accept rate so no, speed doesn't hurt but shooting iffy photos does. :)

« on: January 30, 2009, 21:41 »
So we will be hearing about this for the next 10 years. Please use an "I" not an "i " when you are talking about your self. Also a space after a comma full stop is the norm.

Shank you post here like you are a experienced stock photographer. I have looked at your PF and I have seen some pleasing images but ..... I am gold on istock with half your PF. I would advise you to serve your apprenticeship before being so verbose.

Yourself is one word.
Please use a comma after Shank to set it off from the rest of the sentence, ie. "Shank, you post here..."
Ellipses are three dots, not five.

;)

Shutterstock.com / Re: How did SS perform for you this month?
« on: January 28, 2009, 14:15 »
Much worse for me than expected.  I uploaded a fair bit of new images and never really had them take off the way new images usually do.  I dunno if they just sucked or what but .. yeah, far off.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock rebound?
« on: January 27, 2009, 15:39 »
Regardless of your sample size I think you are making a very relevant point.  This best match is favoring older images much more than newer ones.  As a result people like you and I, who have lots of older images are doing well in January, whereas people like Stacey whose portfolios are mostly newer are being hit hard.

Given that I have a very small port (< 100) and want to start uploading regularly, I'm all for favoring newer images...after this month. ;)

« on: January 27, 2009, 13:36 »
Well I have a very small sample size but I do have duration working for me.  In 4 years of IStock, this will be my BME by 1.5x with absolutely 0 new images in at least 3-5 months.

I gather Fotolia and DT allow exclusivity on a per image basis?

Yes they do.

This IS a great idea.

DT changes this info every so often but usually allows me unlimited uploads... right now I'm at 75 as well but one night I pushed about 300.  lol
