« on: March 02, 2017, 18:16 »
Why do SS provide a search option that is useless?, why should buyers have to work out search strategies to find what they want? They are meant to be leaders of the industry surely its not too much to ask that they provide a search that delivers quality, relevant new images?

I think, shutterstock should work on a contributor ranking system and display the images as per the quality of work.
Quality is subjective though...I wouldn't think it would be hard to rank on the basis of average sales per image across a portfolio ...that way those that flood the market in the hope of sales by sheer weight of numbers would find themselves falling down the search results and those that try and meet demand in a focused way  going up.....

They definitely get my 'B' images
Why reward micro with your best when they unreward contributers at every change that takes place?

Which poses another question: is it worth uploading high quality pictures to micro? My answer is no.
I'm not saying that I deliberately upload low quality images, but I certainly upload images that require little time and effort to produce.
Should they ask for more quality, they'd need to increase prices and royalties as well, or I'm out.

Part of the problem is accointability to shareholders for SS

You see, investors want to see numbers goong up and up - they know nothing about the micro business, but saying that a collection is growing quarter after quarter will sound like " more  opportunity to make money"  just from sheer size of collection.

SS was a well r un business before going public - now evrything is putting the squeeze on contributers _ from collection size, to virtually no ELs and very very few SoDs

Everything is against us

I wonder if that means they have plans of charging contributers a fee to use their platform to sell their images?

Nothing would surprise me in the world of micro these days.

I'm seeing figures going down, just not complaining about it in a happy person's thread.

So where ARE you complaining about it? The only posts I've seen from you recently are a couple where you pop in to tell other people what they shouldn't be saying and where they shouldn't be saying it.

Haha... busted!
Actually, yesterday she was complaining at the iStock/Getty forum.  And she didn't sound like the happy contributor she said she is.

Nowadays you only need one image to pass to be accepted - in practical terms that means they are glad to accept everyone.
The hard part these days is getting sales that are consistent and worthwhile of your efforts to shooot and upload

is this the talk therapy group for microstockers? or the psychiatric ward for depressions?

Up and downs are as normal as anything. I am from Africa, I can tell you about the downs. But now I am happy as a queen. Me and my entire family live on five dollars a day, and microstocks are the very big chance to have a decent living. Life is just great!!!

Sorry for the Trump people, they got the shortest straw right now. But after rain there is sunshine, believe me.

$5/ day - unlike
I have been to Africa, and you could probably have the same standard of living for about 1/2 of US costs, unless of course you live in a shithole like Somalia

Alamy.com / Re: Question about release
« on: January 28, 2017, 16:24 »
So, I have this photo in which only half of a persons face is shown (from bottom of the nose down). Also person is slightly blurred because of DOF. Anyway, I uploaded this photo to SS and FT without release and it was accepted. Now when I upload this photo to Alamy and select 1 person in photo, and then below at "Do you have release" I select NO, alamy automaticly puts this image as Right managed. I want it to be RF. What should I do?

On Alamy for rf they want release for everyone in photo, whether they are in background, blurred or only a part of their body is shown
Their house , their rules

From the website it looks like they strictly do partner sales through the main agencies,
So makes you wonder just how much the 50% com works out to, probably peanuts

Hes had some of those images in his port for 5 years

Good spot, hope these thieves all get booted

Besides making the company look like a cheap 2 bit operation, doesnt the owner have some sense of pride of how it looks to potential customers?

How much does the guy pay to design and host the website? Surely another $100 wouldnt have broken the bank

I would suggest try shooting local food dishes
Food is a good market, used in blogs, menus, articles, etc and if can can do it well it might open a door for you

They should give her free dinner for a year

296
You can always contact SS about your concerns, but honestly, they probably dont give a rats ass how your images are used. They aint goona spend time/money to look into these things.

297
Step 1. Make a list of all the places they could have licensed this photo. If I understand  you correctly, it would be only IS.
Step 2. Find the texts of regular and extended license agreements on these sites and analyze the licence terms.

Some licensing agreements have examples of what is allowed and what is not. I don't want to go to the istock site for you, because that site makes me want to puke.
And I don't want to puke right now, because I just ate dinner and drank some wine. Cheers and good luck.

You sir just won the internet. 👌

for god's sake can we please leave these old threads R.I.P.?

or use whatever intelligence you've been able to cobble together during your life and start something worthwhile

I still have my legacy Symbiostock site
Its up and functioning, havent paid much attention to it for quite sometime, and th results reflect that as well.

I would be interested in still having an independant site, but with everyones images being available from a centralized location - much like how most agencies work today.
Most contributers do not have an extensive enough collection that would garner the interest of buyers, and for buyers to skip from individual site to individual site would be a non starter if I were a buyer.
I would be willing to share proceeds of sales made for maintenance and advertising of this kind of site

The markets have had a nice runup to record levels

I would expect that some kind of correction is not too far off - maybe after Trump gets sworn in and he starts to reveal policies/direction his administration is going to take.
Of course this is pure speculation on my part, but i truly believe that somekind of pullback will happen, probably within the next year
