Newbie Discussion / Re: Mad about the stock business.
« on: July 19, 2016, 13:16 »
Pauws99,   I agree that many old images my or may not sell in future. For me most of my photos are quite simple and fast to shot. I shot a lot of food and interesting objects. The food my wife cooks and I eat after the shoot. I don't include her time for cooking.  People have said objects don't sell well but I have had great luck with them . I try to shot the objects that always have room for type in the image. That seems to help with sells.  I also shoot a lot of concepts images. I have had very poor success with models/people. So not shooting models saves me a lot of time and cost. The funny thing for my images some of the old ones as old as eight years old sell well today. Some of my new images seem to never sell. So I am not sure time is a deal breaker in this industrious. If your photos are interesting they tend to sell aged or not.

Newbie Discussion / Mad about the stock business.
« on: July 19, 2016, 09:53 »
Just for thoughts. Everyone seems mad about  Istock changing rules of the future images sales, not making enough money on images, sells slowing down, the man ( stock sites getting to much money and so on.. You are all right, but here is a way I thought about the business this morning. I have been doing stock for about eight years. I have generated about $70,000 dollars in this time. OK this is not a living but the ROI is really not that bad if you look at it this way. I averaged about 2000 images over those years. Clearly at first less images and now much larger than 2000 images. If you do the  math I have made about  about 35.00 dollars per image over this eight years time. I would say that I get at least three images per photo session. Each photo session  with uploading averages about one hour of time. So making about 105.00 dollars per hour is really not bad as a part time gig. I should get more ROI as the years go on.. Yes my sells have slowed downed also over the last year  even as I increase my portfolio size. So I say to you  close down your Istock accounts . You all  seem to know only  how to complain about this business.    Please close down your accounts as I will continue to make about 105 buck an hour.

Question to anyone who might have experience in this. Clearly travel photos with model release will sell better than no model release. When in non English countries do the releases need to be in models language. If so where do you find translated model releases..thanks Scott

Cutcaster / Re: Sales on Cutcaster
« on: September 21, 2015, 17:33 »
I love the ease of uploading to Cutcaster. I was in hope they would turn into a good site.  I guess not so much. I have been with them for  four years and only have  $ 35.00 bucks in sales with 2000 images. Not sure how they stay in business assuming they are an honest group reporting sales?

Newbie Discussion / Re: Big Stock customer service.
« on: September 18, 2015, 19:33 »

There must be a misunderstanding. A customer is someone buying a product or service. You are not a customer but a supplier to these distributors.

Great point, you are correct I am not a costumer. No wonder the poor service, I guess I am only a accounts payable problem. Why should they really care about me receiving funds from them.

I had a thought and yes thoughts can get you in trouble. I counted on this site (Microstock Poll Results) the number listed stock sites. They list 41 that have no ratings and 11 that have 1.9 to 80 points listed.  I myself have wondered how do these slow or no seller sites stay in business. I am on 22 sites. My sales numbers come very close to the ratings listed on the Microstock poll results . I have about 5000 sell-able images and really only about 10 of the top sites sell images on a regular time frame  for me. I have always wondered if some of these international stock sites report all of their true sales. We, would have no way to check the honesty of these sites that just sell maybe two or three sales a year. When the top sites sell hundreds of images each month for me. Has anyone ever wondered if all these listed companies are honest on their reports of sales ???

PixelBytes,  that not the point Big Stock wont even tell me if it has been mailed out . Without that knowledge I don't know if it is lost by postal workers or not even cut by Big Stock. As far as accumulating, that is the only good thing for me at Big Stock . My sells add up really fast there. By a month more they will owe me another K or so.

This is Big Stock reply. What do you think of this customer service.? ""The actual day the check is mailed can vary and the time it takes to reach you via the postal system cannot be determined. We ask that contributors allow at least 2 months before contacting Bigstock when they have not received their check.""

Newbie Discussion / Big Stock customer service.
« on: September 11, 2015, 11:51 »
I  think Bigstock customer service might be as good as most cable TV customer service groups. Then again maybe the cable guys are better. I called today to find out about my check request and see if it had been mail to me or lost in the mail. It was for over 1200 bucks. I made the check request  ,payout a month ago.  The person at bigstock customer service said he could do nothing to tell me the status of the check. He said e-mail a request on this to bigstock. I said I had already e-mailed a response to this with no response back from  Bigstock. He said nothing he could do to really help but would try to send a note to account payables.   Is it to much to ask status of a check, payment a month old. I guess it is kinda like getting your cable TV repairman to come out and help you these days. Good luck............

I upload to the top 11 sites and of late SS will reject about 80 percent of my images. The other 10 sites will accept nearly 100 percent of the same images. If my images suck that is fine but when the other good sites accept them something is stinky in Denmark. The good part is that I see sites like Istock Dreamtime and fotolia selling better for me this year than in past. I have to believe SutterStock has put some type of robot inspectors in their system. But you know what always happens when you enlist robots ..they rebel and take over your company........

Reading some of these news stories, it's amazing how totally incorrect they are!
https://www.google.com/search?q=Forni+vs+Resnick&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=Forni+vs+Resnick&tbm=nws

Sorry they have such incompetent reporters that they can't take a few minutes to find out how stock works.

Incompetent reporters currently cause much more... like wars. It's new kind of criminals. Luckily, these articles are not really useful as exhibits in court.

The word "he promised" in the times of Internet sounds amazing. My Release with model does exclude pornographic use (what my model's case is built upon btw), although no "promise" was ever in place. Release does not include wording like "photographer guarantees". Who can guarantee what?! Release is in line with License: no defamatory use. Publishers are to  respect it. Photographer is to assure images are sold with correct license. He is not to assure or guarantee end-users respect it. That's what prosecutors are for. A stolen car that's been bona fide locked is not a responsibility of a car's owner, but is a case for police to handle.

I agree if these photos were shot by the photographer with the model permission both he and the model should know that these are perfect images for the slut industry.  Photographers there is nothing wrong about shooting this type of image but  look at the trouble it might get you into. Not worth it if you ask me..just my opinion.

Hello fellow stock photographers. I wanted to let you guys know about a lawsuit going on that many of you seem to be vaguely aware of.  I think the whole industry could be at risk if things dont go well.

I am being sued in federal court for hundreds of thousands of dollars by a model I worked with in January 2013.  This is a model that I paid, and who signed a release allowing me to sell her images through stock photo agencies. Why I am I being sued? It revolves around images that got misused or were just outright stolen and the model is blaming me for it. My case has unfortunately received national attention in the New York Post, the daily mail and Fox News, none of which have bothered to explain my side of the story.

If they had not ignored my side of the story, here is what they would have reported. She was an experienced lingerie and implied nude model, appearing on a magazine cover in such apparel.  I told her agent before the shoot it would be used for stock photography.  During the shoot I also told the model that the images would be for sale for stock photography and explained how stock photography works.  I explained to her that these agencies prohibit pornographic use in their terms of service..  Another person who often helped me from time to time was present during the shoot and witnessed everything.

I said nothing more and I didn't lie.  I did NOT promise her that her images would not be misused - it is impossible in our right-click-save-as days. She saw the images before signing the model release, was happy with them and posted them herself on her Facebook page.

Another misconception is that our arrangement was TFP or Trade for Portfolio use.  I paid her via her agent through Paypal and have all the records of it, even providing her gas money to travel to Columbus.

If the court rules in her favor, it could create a dangerous incentive for other models to do the same  and try to hold photographers liable for things that are out of our control.

That's why I need your help. The case is in New York now and Im facing a huge financial burden to protect myself and our industry in general. Knowledgeable copyright lawyers cost are incredibly expensive. I want to defend myself to the extent I can given my funding to discourage models in the future from bringing forth similar actions. I'll be grateful for any amount you can spare, and promise I'll make a good use of it and keep you all updated on how it goes as much as I am allowed.

Here is my question. Most lawsuits like this will only go after deep pockets. Do you the photographer have lots of wealth. If not this lawsuit is a big question mark. It is almost impossible to find a lawyer to take a case from a model unless the photographer has deep pockets or some kind of outside funds. You the photographer can lose but if you have no money they can't put you in jail for this. As my grandma said you can't get blood out of a turnip.  Good luck, it sounds like a big waste of everyone's time.

I sent them two emails to find out where they were located on this planet earth. Never a response back. All I will say is beware of a site that dose not list physical address or respond with address. Maybe this is a prison work program somewhere in the world ??????

Again my question is.. If you were a SS video contributor and let BS have your videos for 15 cents each..What is the backdoor deal.????????????????????????????????? The videos I looked at on BS are very high quality for the most part. They are not homeboy made. Clearly Pro all the way. Got to be a story for the  deal cut that BS made to the SS contributors.
